Maine Timbers Deep Dive
#1

Let’s take an ultimate look at the Maine Timbers of this season.

From top to bottom the team has a clear view of what a team should look like to become a full blown dynasty. Now that’s not to say the opponents are insignificant to this seasons full tale up to this point, but the key pillars to a successful team is goal scoring, physicality, defense, chemistry, a hot goaltender, and a lot of depth. A ton of depth.

Let’s start with the scoring. You simply can’t go talking about this particular Maine team without talking about 2 50+ goal scorers. 9 players with 20 or more goals, and 13 players who had double digit goals. Exploring not only a top tier team, but the depth of scoring shows that any player on this team can make an impact and go through any team from the opponents.

Valtteri Pulkkinen 55 goals. Just overall an amazing achievement to be scoring that many goals in a season. It does make you wonder with the amount of ways he scored a goal does it make him one of the greatest goal scorers in SMJHL History?

May O’Nayse 50 Goals. Now I can’t complain. It might not be 55 goals, but again it’s 50 freaking goals. How many players in history have done that? We reflect on the fact that when you think about this team as a whole. That right there is the equivalent of having Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid, but imagine adding some type of elite passer into the mix. Someone like Aleksander Barkov? Doug Weight had 79 Assists to add. Makes this team absolute legendary 1st line group even more legendary.

This could be the absolute greatest SMJHL line of all time. That’s 330 Points combined in 66 games. That’s an average of 5 points a game. Completely ridiculous from this line. The collective of just the top like could win you a championship alone, but no no. Let’s bring up the fact Jacppo Nummilaven, and Ty Justice put up 69 and 58 points respectively.

Now the defense as a whole from everyone was pure class. Add in the fact that 1,805 hits took place from the team. Menace to society. You can’t comp a better understanding of how the defense did with both goalies in net. It doesn’t even matter which one you like the most. Just know that everyone’s stats have contributed to the team’s success in more ways than 1. It has absolutely trampled every team in the Timber path.

Now talking about chemistry. Most of this team has been together for awhile now, but it mostly affects what we can do as an organization. Plugging in rookies who can just go ahead and do a job for the team. No matter how small and insignificant or how big and key any of the points are. This team can not be called a Titan without everyone doing their specific tasks to keep everyone running as a collective group.
