S79 Week 3 + 4 - Edmonton Blizzstars of the Week
#1

It’s time for another 2-in-1 weekly Blizzstars. As usual, we are late, the season is already over, and I’m not even supposed to be running this team anymore!

But I digress, let’s recap the 2nd half of the season for our beloved Edmonton Blizzard. Oh how the turn tables, the training wheels have been taken off, and subsequently all the other wheels have followed suit and have also fallen off the wagon. With a record of 10-30-3 (43 GP) sitting in 20th place the last time we checked in, the team has gone 7-15-1 in the final 23 games of season. That’s good enough for..*checks notes*, dead last!

Some had hoped the rookies would really take flight and the team wouldn’t be at the bottom again, but it seems we are still in the territory with some growing pains. There are some bright spots though! The rookies are still producing and galvanizing that chemistry, and the future looks bright with some games showing glimpses of what this roster can do!

Let’s get to it, here are your week 3 and 4 Blizzstars of the Week!

Benjamin Surkhi-Ze'ev
@HoltzFan10
#10 - C - Tel Aviv, Israel
17GP - 10G, 14A, 24P, +14
The seasoned veteran has still got it! Leading the way in week 3 is Benjamin Surkhi-Ze’ev, putting all the rookies on his shoulders and leading them to the promised land (obviously before the wheels fell off). 24 points, at +15 (this team has not seen a positive double digit +/- in a LONG time), Surkhi-Ze’ev wound back the clock and was playing like it was S73 in a Blizzard uniform. A well rounded effort offensively and defensively with 26 blocked shots, 60 shots on goal, 21 hits, and 20 takeaways while only allowing 7 giveaways.
⭐⭐
Blizzard Second Blizzstar Blizzard
Matviy Cajabi
#9 - LW – Kramatorsk, Ukraine
17GP - 8G, 12A, 20P, +6

Matviy Cajabi, he might not be the flashiest player on the team, but he is the heart and soul of the Edmonton Blizzard line-up. Anchoring the second line with Benjamin Surkhi-Ze’ev, the rookie and the vet tore up the league in week 3. The second line was the only line that ended the week with a positive +/-, a true reflection of the solid role Cajabi plays on the team. Nothing fancy, no high risk plays, just good old foundational hockey.
⭐⭐⭐
Blizzard Third Blizzstar Blizzard
Alexa Johansen
#16 - RW - San Diego, USA
17GP - 12G, 15A, 27P, -9

Well here we are again, the 3rd appearance in a row for Alexa Johansen as a Blizzstar (Week 1 – 1st, Week 2 – 1st, Week 3 – 3rd). A small dip in production for the 1st line overall, but Alexa Johansen has picked up the slack and has put together her best week to date. 27 points in 17 games played, along with an insane team leading 95 shots on goal and 32 hits, she will punish you with and without the puck. At this rate, we are officially on rookie record watch.

Our resident old man <3 Putting together a solid week, resisting father time and the inevitable slow march into TPE oblivion. Although we normally don’t include inactive players in the weekly Blizzstars, it would be a crime to not mention Moosey. WE LOVE MOOSE. Also, regression is theft.

Gwendolyn Telenn
#13 - C - Lannion, France
16GP - 9G, 10A, 19P, -7
It’s a top line sweep of this weeks Blizzstars! Although the team is in a freefall to the bottom of the standings, the top line of Johansen, Atlason, and Telenn are still firing on all cylinders, keeping up the point-per-game pace. The line has amassed a combined 231 points, 128 assists, and 103 goals which is 43% of the teams total goals (239). What’s more impressive is each player has a unique role on the top line, Alexa Johansen has come into her own as a top power forward leading the team in points and hits. The 2-way play of Olafur Atlason provides secondary scoring along with solid defensive numbers. Anchoring the line is Gwendolyn Telenn down the middle, with an effective 55% face-off win percentage, always giving the line the opportunity to start the play with the puck.
