Dublin, Ireland -- Big news today from Dublin, Ireland where local hockey star Shio Corin has made it official that he will be entering the Season 83 Simulation Hockey League Draft. Corin, who has shown promise while coming up the ranks of Irish hockey was noticeably excited after making the announcement that he'd be in the draft. His friends and family were in attendance at a small press conference inside the press room at the Dundonald International Ice Bowl.
"This has been a dream of mine all my life." Corin said to open the press conference. "Every young hockey player dreams of someday going to the SHL and it's still sinking in that it could become a reality here soon." Corin could hardly contain his excitement while talking about potentially being drafted. He went on to say that he knows he still has a lot of hard work left before the draft if he hopes to find himself at the top of SHL draft boards. "I'm going to do everything in my power to show every SHL team that they need a player like me on their team. The real work begins now, I know that declaring for the draft is nothing more than paperwork. The hard part comes now and I'm going to make sure that when it's time for the draft these SHL teams are going to have a really hard time coming up with reasons to not call my name." Corin is a big power forward, standing at 6 foot 4 inches tall and weighing in at 225 pounds. He's known in Ireland for his very accurate shot and his willingness to use his body to create space for himself and his teammates. Judging from the way Corin spoke at his presser he is also confident in his abilities. The left winger could prove to be a valuable asset to a team in the draft. Local coaches have praised his skills but also told us about what they find to be more impressive than his play on the ice. "Shio is just a great kid." Corin's former pee-wee coach told us. "As good as he is on the ice he is even better in the community." We asked the coach what he would tell an SHL team about Corin, "His willingness to do anything and everything it takes to be better in all aspects. Whether it be better in his play on the ice or in his work in the community, he will stop at nothing to keep getting better." The community here in Dublin also sang Shio Corin's praises. "Greatest guy. Always willing to sign an autograph or take a picture." one fan said. The head of a soup kitchen told us, "He was always happy to do charity work whenever we made the request." We don't know how his career in the SHL will turn out but from what we were able to gather it seems the SHL has a potential gem on their hands. |
