What makes Sam Slade Tick?

In the last couple weeks we have gotten to know Sam Slade, he is a strong 1st round candidate that exhibits a strong drive and work ethic. He might not be he flashiest of players, but his consistency has been noted by several GM's.

However, that isn't why we are here today. Today Sam Slade let us join him this weekend to get to know the person behind the prospect. Here are a couple key traits we though NWJHL fans would like to know:

Loyalty/Leadership - This weekend it was evident he is extremely loyal to friends. There was numerous NWJHL and personal conversations, that we can not repeat, that demonstrated his loyalty to his friends and he acted upon these conversations and as leaders often do, he put his neck out there to speak on his friends behalf.

Pasta is his Favorite Food - With Sam's constant workouts, he often has high carb/energy food to replenish his system. When asked about this, he commented it's a good life when you can play the game you love and eat the food you love as well.

Good Hearted/Honest - A weekend with friends out at the bar and several women were all over Sam, obviously they know he is a top pick, as there is often female 'groupies' with high profile players. However, unlike most guys, Sam is dating his sweetheart and was quick to let the flirting girls know he was taken. This rare behavior shows the quality of the person that so many know already.

He Loves his Nissan Rogue - He doesn't have a fancy car, but loves his AWD Nissan Rogue (thought it is fully loaded). When asked he said for Canadian winters a AWD vehicle is so nice and the sleek design of the rogue is something he really likes.

He wants Everyone to Succeed - He spent some time with other NWJHL prospects this weekend and instead of just doing his own thing, he talked about strategies and ways for each of the other players to improve. He also listened to how he could improve, which shows Sam doesn't have an ego, which isn't always the case with high end potential picks.

Surrounds Himself with Good People - It was evident by who he hangs out with and contacts that he only considers those people friends if they are a good person. When asked about this, he said if you hang with liars or similar type of people, then they only bring you down, because they make you feel that is acceptable behavior, which it isn't, some people just don't have a moral compass.

He Loves to Laugh - Hanging out with friends he shared in many of the funny things that happened this weekend and it was evident that this sense of humor and his easy going nature is a big part to his personality.

Desire to be the Best - His generally easy going demeanor is tempered by an intense desire to be the best he can be, which was evident during practices and in the workout room and obviously as he prepares for the upcoming season.

He sometimes unwinds playing his PS3 - When he has some free time, which is rare, he sits down and plays SHL12 and plays several players like Saku Perhonen and Elias Armia, along with others.

Well there you have it folks, a look inside the man called Sam Slade,
