Pavel Bursyuk scores shorthanded for St. Louis

The battle for the bottom of the East was underway as St. Louis was looking for a road victory up in Canada. Sasha-Alexei Smirnov started the effort early off a quick penalty and St. Louis headed to the locker room with a 1-0 1st Period and 18 minutes of non-goal play. Steve Linkos would add a second goal in the first 2 minutes of the 2nd, and Chris Fekete responded on the Vsevolod Nikitin holding minor with a powerplay goal. Not wanting to be in a tie game, Pavel Bursyuk took matters into his own hands and scored shorthanded to extend the lead. Hay Cosmo got the lead back down to 1 a few minutes later, and some tension resulted in a draw fight from Pas Chien and Nikitin. St. Louis looked to end the game and did with an explosive 3rd period, with Axel Reid and Seth Ryder scorind 2 quick goals toward the middle of the 3rd. Jorma Ruutu was still skating and got one past St. Louis, but Bursyuk’s 2nd goal and Banananov’s tally gave the Scarecrows the blowout road win.
