Game 1-3 S22 PGS
#1

Detroit Falcons vs Kelowna Knights

For a team that talked a lot of smack in the preseason, it was the Kelowna Knights with the great playing game which wouldn't be evident by the shot totals. The Detroit Falcons outshot the Knights 28-9 in the game, but it was all Knights right from the start getting on the board. The first goal of the season came from Dr. Timeturner Whooves who netted one at 3:12 of the first period. Other than the one goal, the first period was just riddled with penalties including a double minor for roughing by Bubba Nukc.

The second period was more of the same as the Kelowna Knights added a tally early in the second on the powerplay. Only 28 seconds later, the Detroit Falcons would answer with their only goal of the night as Clay Parker netted his first of the year.

William Kvarnvall and Dr Timeturner Whooves would both net goals to propel the Knights to a 4-1 victory over the Falcons.

Adam Demko (0-1-0) took the loss for the Falcons stopping 5 of 9 shots that he saw. Mark Harter (1-0-0) got the W as he stopped 27 of 28 shots sent his direction.

Regina Force vs St. Louis Scarecrows

The first period, you would think, would be both teams trying to feel each other out, wrong. The first period was non-stop action as there were 6 goals scored in the first on 27 shots. The Scarecrows started off the scoring with a goal from Santi Pineiro at the 1:49 mark of the first period. From there, the Regina Force went on a roll scoring three goals in a row. James Marushin, Maxim Golubev, and Jigsaw McGraw all netted their first goal of the season, McGraw's was shorthanded after a penalty by Jason Ginter. Sasha-Alexei Smirnov would come back 20 seconds later and answer on the powerplay, but Michael Boychuk would put the Force up 4-2 to end the first period.

The second period was really no action at all as only penalties were called. The game seemed to settle down a lot from there. There were only 14 shots in the second, 8 by Regina, 6 by St Louis.

The third period will be more of the same as Boychuck scored his second goal of the night at the 6:01 mark. Cameron Urbowicz scored with 8 minutes left to go in the game, but it just wasn't enough as Regina took this one.

Milo Ethier (1-0-0) got the win for Regina stopping 24 of 27 shots. Noah Jackson (0-1-0) took the loss for the Scarecrows and eventually got pulled for Robot Roberts who stopped 15 of 16 shots.

Montreal Impact vs Vancouver Whalers

The first period was definitely a sloppy one as neither team could seem to do anything. Only 7 shots took place in the first period combined with 3 penalties just summed up the first period. It's the first game of the season for both teams, so I am not surprised that it ended up like this.

The second period was definitely different as it was all Whalers in the second period as they put up 17 shots on goal. Fernando Pergher started off the scoring on the powerplay, 3 minutes into the period. Sterling Knight would add a tally 10 minutes again as Pergher would see the assist on that goal. Montreal couldn't find the way out their own way during that period as they only had 2 shots on net and 0 goals. It was 2-0 Whalers after 2.

Montreal came out storming in the third period. After a hooking call to Sterling Knight, Conn Thomson capitalized on a powerplay opportunity to put the Impact within a goal. Roman Costa would put an end to the Impact hopes of a comeback win as he netted his 1st of the season with 8 minutes to play and the Whalers would close it out from there.

Valdemorts Karlensons (0-1-0) stopped 28 of 31 shots on the evening but took the loss. James Beatley (1-0-0) played exceptional stopping 18 of 19 shots and took the victory.
