Steve Linkos EoS interview
#1

Story line of the season
Steve Linkos started the year with the St. Louis Scarecrows who both had a slow start to the season. Linkos got his feet under him quicker than the Scarecrows were able to and moved towards the top of the scoring sheet. The GMs were eventually force to mix up the lines to get some fire under the team. Linkos was given more ice time which had a small effect on his production but he still was able to stay at the top of the leader board. Then came the big trade, Linkos and Bursyuk found themselves on a plane to Kelowna. These two continued to play together on the second line for Kelowna as they already had a strong first line. Then Kelowna hit a small cold streak and Linkos and Bursyuk were separated and Linkos was placed with Benson who ended up hitting it off. Benson and Linkos continued their success into the playoffs where they both averaged over a point per game. Linkos struggled in the first series against Vancouver but he had one good game where he was a star of the game. Linkos was able to pick his game back up luckily for the finals and helped the Knights to another championship. Detroit was a great team and it was very exciting for the Knights to play them back to back years. Linkos was honored to play for such a strong Knight’s team. As of right know Linkos’s future is uncertain depending on how much he develops this offseason he could be joining the President’s trophy winning Winnipeg Jets or he will be back down looking for a three peat for the knights.

Interview What were your initial thoughts when you were traded?
Honestly I was very surprised, I knew the GMs were looking to make some moves but I never thought it would be me. I thought they were looking for a way to win it this season but they decided to rebuild. Of course I’m not upset about what happened I think it was the best for both parties. I got to be a part of a championship and the Scarecrows got a draft pick to help rebuild.

Interview Did you enjoy your time in Kelowna?
I had a great time at Kelowna I got to hold up the Four Star Cup. Of course it’s not only about championships, I think the team had some great chemistry. The team helped me develop as a player and it’s always good to get a different perspective with different GMs and different leading players.

Interview What do you look to bring to the SHL?
At first I’m not going to be a star player of course so when I make it there (hopefully next season) I expect to be in a supporting role. The jets just came off a great regular season but I know the playoffs wasn’t what they were hoping. I hope I get the chance to help them make it deeper into the playoffs but I don’t know what role they will want me to play. I think my best abilities is as a play maker who can produce a lot with smaller minutes.

Interview Five finger death punch, Coheed and Cambria, white chapel.
Which of those sounds like a sexual manuever you'd use?
I’m not sure I guess I’ll go with Coheed and Cambria.

Interview Steven Stamkos, Henrik Zetterberg, Patrick Marleau.
Kill one, bang one, marry one.
Kill Partrick Marleau, bang Steven Stamkos, and marry Henrik Zetterberg.

Interview Which LR is better?
They were different I would say scarecrows discussion page was filled I think it was at 60 something pages when I left. Kelowna had 12 pages I think when I got there but I because of this I went to the chatzy more often.

Interview Do you see yourself staying down or being called up to the big leagues?
I’m honestly not sure I haven’t looked at recently what types of players the Jets need and at what level. I am going to make sure I work hard this off season and see where they would like me to improve so I can get there.

Interview What part of your game needs improvement to get to where you want to be?
Deffensively I think my game could improve. I’m not the greatest hitter and am a little worried when I go up that I will be a practice dummy out on the ice. This offseason that is what I would like to work on the most but it will take a lot of time.

Interview What was your favorite part of potentially your last junior season?
At some points I was one of the leading scorer which always if fun. I scored a lot more goals than I expected going into the season, scoring goals is always fun. A championship to end the season is the best way to end it and I’m glad I played a big role in it.

Interview What do you think is your greatest asset as a player? Your greatest weakness?
I think I am best as a play maker I think I can get the puck into the zone and find the man with the best shot on goal. This also means that when I do shoot on goal its most likely going to be in the back of the net. Weakness is hitting and avoiding getting hit. In the SMJHL this isn’t a big problem as there aren’t a ton of big hitters but I fear when I go the SHL I won’t make it far if I can hit.

Interview What do you look forward to about playing in Winnipeg?
I’m happy I’m not going to a rebuilding team but who aren’t completely set. That means I won’t go there early and have the future of the team with me I can start as a role player for a few seasons. I also won’t be waiting around forever in the junior leagues and then still only play a small role. Waiting a season or two isn’t a huge deal, I just want to have an impact when I get there.

Interview Any goals for your first SHL season?
I would say 20 or more points. I think that would mean I’m helpful to the team, I don’t want to take over a spot on the roster and not produce for the team. I think 20 points is a realistic goal and I think I’ll be ready for that soon.

Interview Will you be upset if you get sent down again?
I think that will depend on whether I feel I’m ready. I think I’ll be ready to compete in the SHL when the season starts but it’s still a little early. I want to get there and I think I would be more upset with myself if I can’t get myself there.

Interview How much more do you think it will take for the Jets to win a Cup? What is their greatest organizational need?
I wasn’t about to pay attention as close as I would like to their playoff games. They were the best team in the regular season I guess it didn’t transfer over to the playoffs. I’m not sure what caused them to lose their mojo in that series, they seem like they have all there bases covered. Maybe they just need there players to develop a little more. I think next year’s playoffs will be a completely different story for them.
