GM Schmidt and Capt. Jasper Clayton sat down and had to ask the hard questions. With the future on the line, they made the call that no one expected. Captain Jasper Clayton and Asst Captain Michael Burch were headed to Montreal for Defender Mattias Holmberg and a second round pick in the S26 draft. With leadership rolls to fill, the Detroit GM made an organizational announcement: "Jasper Clayton and Michael Burch were the Falcons captain and assistant captain, respectively, so some leadership roles are to be filled. Taking on the captaincy for the remainder of the season and playoffs will be the one remaining alternate captain, goaltender Austin Lemieux! A's will be given to left wing Ross Burke and right wing Tim Buckner" With the regular season finished and the playoffs coming up quick, the young captains have a lot of work to do to keep this team on the right path. At this time, we'd like to welcome newly named Asst. Captain, Tim Buckner to the podium to answer and questions about his new roll and where the Falcons are headed Were you surprised to be named captain? 100 percent yes. As a rookie I never expected to have any type of leadership role so early. With the sudden trades at the deadline it wasn't even on my radar at this point. I figured that Austin Lemieux would be to sole captain for the remainder of the year has he was the only one still on the team. It is a huge honor as I know that Detroit has a very proud alumni network and tradition. I hope that I can help to continue the legacy. How do you think you'll fare against the Impact in the postseason? Its a really tough match up with especially given the most recent trades. It will be strange taking the ice for that first game know who we're playing. While this isn't the first match-up since everything went down, it is most certainly the most important thus far. Montreal will be looking for make a statement in the first round, while we're battling to prove some people wrong. We're still carrying our heads high even after our poor regular season showing. The new guys we've brought in have really stepped it up and helped elevate our teams to some very close games. I think this series will be tough fought with a lot of shots. Our defense and goalie are going to be key if we're going to have any success. Best of luck to the Impact, but I'd keep your head on a swivel After the Falcons finished first in the league in S23 and S24, then plummeted to second last in S25, what do you think we'll see from them in S26? I think with all the draft picks we've been able to accumulate for this upcoming draft I think we'll see a much different team come opening game of S26. We've got a young group that is hungry to get better and make an impact. I could see us making a few big moves to either secure a developed player or move up to grab s solid prospect. It's always hard for a team to recover after such a disappointing regular season but I really trust our GM to get us back in the mix next season. I don't anticipate seeing a long rebuilding process. Have you thought much about the draft, yet? It's crept in to my mind a little but I haven't put much thought in to what could happen or what I'd like to see happen. I'm going to go into the draft with the same expectations as I did for the SMJHL draft. I'll be excited to see where I end up and where my fellow draftees end up. It's always fun leading up to the draft and getting to know more about each team. I've really been concentrating on this season and Detroit and working to make the organization better. Hopefully, with any luck I'll be drafted to a team with an active LR that is willing to help out a rookie. I've learned so much from some of the vets in Detroit but I know I'll need more guidance when trying to make the jump from the SMJHL to the SHL. Favourite memory from the Falcons this season? I think it would have to be the day I got drafted. I was pretty pumped to be selected by Detroit and then the welcome I received was great. I got to know a few of the players and get a feel for the LR pretty quick. Before our asst gm retired I was able to get some really great advice on how to make a successful build. While I haven't seen huge offensive numbers I think I've set myself up to have a terrific second season and hope to get Detroit back on the top of the standings. A close second would have to be being named Asst. Captain. I'm very excited to take a leadership role and hope to help out a brand new group of rookies next season. How early do you think you will be picked in the draft? It really depends. While I've done a lot to raise my TPE I don't have some of the production as the other players entering the draft. I could see myself going late first round, maybe early second round. Similar to the SMJHL to be honest. I think there are a lot of terrific options in the first two rounds and it could go either way. There's a few stand out first overall options and then the rest of us are kind of scattered all over the place and could be picked at random. We'll see. I'd be happy to land in the first two rounds. Would you recommend the Falcons to a rookie? Absolutely. What makes Detroit a nice spot for rookies are some of the alumni and leadership that can really help out. They've had success in developing some top draft choices of the SHL and can really bring the best out of players. Beyond that, the Locker Room is a blast with contribution from a lot of people. Plus with all the draft picks we've got I believe that we'll be able to draft some great players next season and be very successful. How many animal sacrifices do you plan on making to ensure that, despite the circumstances, the Falcons win the cup? On my trip to Mexico I actually consulted with a Mayan Shaman and he explained the correct technique when sacrificing. Since then I've been at it pretty much every day. While I haven't been able to push myself to sacrifice actual animals, I have been making daily trips to toys R us and raiding their stuffed animal selection. Currently I've been banned from 3 locations for scaring the patrons as I don't waste anytime in my ceremonies and use the play houses as my temple for sacrifice. I think we've got a good chance.
