pb's Head Office Elections Presser

Ready for grading.
I've thought for years that the Head Office should be elected but the logistics would require a fair amount of work, so I was excited when Bojo made the suggestion and seemed willing to put in the work to make it happen. I immediately knew that, if I was nominated, I'd be interested in stepping up and helping out the league. "As a member of HO you will help decide future implementations for SHL, punishments for unruly members, and judges for matters that need rulebook interpretation." I've seen other folks putting together spiels about the things that they want to make happen if they're elected to HO. That's not why I'm here. I'm not running because I have an agenda and I think I have more of a chance of making it happen if I'm elected. I'm here to facilitate changes the league needs, to bring an unbiased voice to discussions, and to listen to the members of the site, and so I'm trying to go in without forming my own goals and expectations. There are things I think the site needs, of course, even before thinking ahead to changes we'll make in the future, including (but not limited to): a way to provide feedback in an organized manner, and to know that your feedback is being listened to; a way to report problems with other members in a way that doesn't open yourself up to immediate rebuke; to make sure the rules are clear, concise, and stay up-to-date as changes are made. I am a very detail oriented person, capable of looking at the big picture but seeing what's missing. I have a lot of experience around the SHL at this point - as a player, as a GM, in a variety of jobs. I have a history of good relationships around the site, both as a GM, as facilitator of issues (everyone who left the Pack, whatever the drama, did so on good terms with me), and as someone who people come to with questions (from new folks confused by the site to people needing to audit their bank account). I know the elections could turn into a bit of a popularity contest, or that stunts can be the deciding factor for people, but if I'm elected I want it to be because people think I'm the best choice for the job. To help facilitate that decision, I'd like to open this up to questions so that I can put any worries you might have to rest. But being elected to an oversight / management position simply because you have an agenda, or because someone agrees with you on an issue, seems like a bad idea to me. So I mostly want to caution candidates not to run specifically beacause of one goal, and for voters to look beyond specific issues to people they think can be counted on no matter the situation. Quote:What do you think the people will want to have changed during your time in the HO, if you were elected? There are things that come up a lot in this league that I briefly mentioned already - accountability, transparancy, organization and record keeping, and no matter what specific issues the league is interested in those need to be addressed. But we've seen a few big changes over the years, and more are being talked about now that we have a new commissioner bringing new energy to the process. TPE balance is something that's an ongoing problem, and people are always trying to find new ways to create interest and energy in the league. The offseasons continue to drag on, largely because of lack of response times from the huge number of people involved. Jobs occasionally simply taper off with no one to get things back on track. Quote:Do you think those from the Eastern Conference will want different things to happen in HO than those in the Western Conference?Every person has a unique view of the site, and they come together to give their teams varying agendas and perspectives. So wants and needs vary from team to team, and even those wanting the same changes have very different ways of prioritizing them. That said, I think that's on a team level rather than a conference level, so overall I don't think a huge divide between East and West is likely. Quote:Originally posted by HabsFanFromOntario@Dec 9 2016, 12:35 PM
How do you feel about tpe inflation?TPE inflation is an incredibly complex, ongoing issue, and I have mixed feelings on how much of a problem it is and how to solve it. On the one hand, I'm in this league because I want to make a unique hockey player, who's build influences his role on a team. On the other hand, it's hard to stay invested in a player who is consistently doing poorly or unable to keep up with those around him (although part of this is a reflection of the fact that the league has trouble rewarding, and even tracking, stats beyond the basics), and there needs to be a reward for those who stay active and invested in the league. Trying to cap TPE too early absolutely drops activity later in the season, and the feeling spreads even to those who are still improving, but I also hate to punish folks for occasionally having to take a day off to focus on their real life. Quote:Originally posted by HabsFanFromOntario@Dec 9 2016, 01:12 PM
Any ideas how to create unique builds that reward multiple stats while making tpe attainable for casual users and not fucking over goalie stats by switching sims? This is a super tough question, and I don't currently have an answer for it. There were a lot of interesting ideas proposed when we changed the update scale, and while I personally really liked JackCross's idea of branching "skill tree" type builds, I think that's mostly just my inner gamer talking. If we took another look at this I'd definitely start off by trying to collect all the ideas floating around and get together a team of folks on the site who are sim experts to weigh in on pros and cons of them all to try and find a balance of fun, fairness and implicity. B)Obviously I like the Wolfpack culture as it is, but I have no interest in telling teams how they should behave among themselves. I'm just in favor of people treating people with some amount of decency and respect unless they agree to a different standard. Until Buffalo and Portland are serious contenders for a few seasons we can't consider the previous expansion to really be finished, and once we've reached that point we'd still need to see significant growth (that could be sustained) to warrant expanding further. If an expansion is considered in the future, I'd want to take more time getting input from all the people involved, and give everyone more notice than the last one - the NHL set their expansion date a full season ahead so that teams could plan accordingly, and the SHL should follow that same gameplan. ![]() Registered Somehow was a GM

How do you feel about tpe inflation?
