Yes, I know, it's multiple seasons late. But it's better late than never, and we just wanted to keep it consistent rather than have a gap in the awards for two seasons, so we're going to choose the winners now. FourFour will do the S35 awards soon.
So, without further ado, here are your S33 award winners...
S33 HALIFAX RAIDERS TEAM AWARDS S33, my first season as Head GM and the first season for Toivo as Co-GM, started out rough for the Raiders. But an incredible run by their backup goaltender rocketed them to the top of the SMJHL standings, netting Halifax it's second consecutive President's Trophy. The team featured stars such as Sepp Reiter, Brandon Gauthier, Zander Rhys, and Zanarkand Abes. The team finished with a record of 31-12-7 for a total of 69 points. Despite the strong regular season, the mirror image of S32 would continue in the playoffs. After finishing 1st in S33, as they had done in S32, they had a bye in round one (as they had in S32). However, they were upset in both conference final series (S32 by Detroit and S33 by Montreal). It was a disappointing end to a somewhat unexpected run by the team that had lost superstars such as Toivo Kosonen, Reed Laing, Matthew Leetch, and Georgette Pel the season prior to callups. The Rosston Trophy Raiders leading scorer Sepp Reiter Congratulations O4L!!! Reiter was the second straight Raider to win the league's regular season scoring race, following in the footsteps of Reed Laing. His 28 goals were 10 more than any other player on the team, and his 60 points were 11 more than the next highest total. He was also second on the team in plus/minus. He led the team in goals, assists, points, shots, power play points, and penalty kill points while playing just north of 23 minutes per game. PREVIOUS WINNERS S32: Reed Laing S31: Reed Laing & Jean-Luc Reflieux S30: Casper Jakobsson S29: Felix Herzog S28: Reinis Aumeisters S27: Conall Macleod S26: Conall Macleod S25: Carter Rosston The Broadway Award Dedication to Hockey/Leadership Award WINNER! Zanarkand Abes Congratulations, formx!! The first player to ever win this trophy twice, and they won it back to back. Abes was part of the Raiders lethal first line that also featured Sepp Reiter and Brandon Gauthier. He worked hard all season to make sure he fit in well on that top line for Halifax. He had 18 goals, 19 assists, and 37 points. His plus/minus of plus 18 was the third highest on the team in S33. PREVIOUS WINNERS S32: Zanarkand Abes S31: Pietra Volkova S30: Toivo Kosonen S29: Colin Banning S28: Leif De Bruin S27: Marc-Andre Moreau S26: Carter Rosston S25: Brett Broadway The Ogorodnikov Trophy Top Two-Way Forward WINNER! Brandon Gauthier Congratulations, treant!. The third trophy handed out tonight and it goes to the third and final member of the first line (with Reiter winning the Rosston and Abes winning the Broadway). Gauthier was the pivotal center on this line that helped it go from good to great. Without Gauthier's passing ability, it's possible Reiter and Abes wouldn't have scored as much, which could've really hurt Halifax. He had 18 goals, 31 assists, and 49 points. He had a plus/minus ranking of plus 21, which was the best on the team. PREVIOUS WINNERS S32: Sepp Reiter S31: Reed Laing S30: Alex Reed S29: Felix Herzog S28: Taystee Poussey S27: Petr Kolesnikovs S26: Taystee Poussey S25: Ignant Ogorodnikov The Fuller Trophy Top Defenseman WINNER! Zander Rhys Congratulations ThePandava! Rhys made his last full season in the SMJHL count. He had 9 goals, 29 assists, and 38 points (the highest among Raiders defenseman and the third highest overall). He had the second most points out of any defenseman in the SMJHL, trailing only Adam Kaiser. He had a plus 10 and his 54 blocked shots were good for second on the team. PREVIOUS WINNERS S32: Alexsander Komarov S31: Toivo Kosonen S30: Victor Lindstrom S29: Montel Vontavious Porter S28: Montel Vontavious Porter S27: Clayton Fuller S26: Clayton Fuller S25: Clayton Fuller The Moreau Award Rookie of the Year WINNER! Max Smith-Frey Congratulations, Tericzar! I try to go with all actives for awards, but all of our rookies (except Goody Jr. who played 2 games) that season are now inactive, so the award goes to the guy who led us to the playoffs. He posted an incredible 26-4-4 record, and also boasted a .912 save percentage and a 1.98 goals against average. Halifax was a dismal 5-8-3 when Smith-Frey took over the reigns. The original plan was just to get him his 6 games and put Russakoff back in, but after his solid performances in those 6 games, he was put back in net. Halifax would win the next 11 in a row and go on an incredible 17-0-2 run in their next 19 games with Smith-Frey in the crease. PREVIOUS WINNERS S32: Lochlann O'Rourke S31: Sepp Reiter S30: Reed Laing S29: Victor Lindstrom S28: Felix Herzog S27: Marc-Andre Moreau S26: Arik Mikita The Macleod Award Most Valuable Player WINNER! Sepp Reiter Congratulations, O4L! This one was a no-brainer. It was between Reiter and Smith-Frey, but you go with the active easily in this scenario. It's tough to imagine where the Raiders would have been without Sepp Reiter. His 60 points led the SMJHL, and he was an integral part of the Raiders offense. PREVIOUS WINNERS S32: Georgette Pel S31: Toivo Kosonen S30: Colin Banning S29: Felix Herzog/Richard C. Hocolate S28: Reinis Aumeisters S27 Taystee Poussey S26: Petr Kolesnikovs S25: Conall Macleod Congratulations to all the winners! S34 awards will be out soon, followed by S35.
