Why Sanyi Kocsis Should be on Your Radar
[Image: image.php?uuid=67247632-c111-4105-b90a-f...t=800&q=80]
Despite his unorthodox hockey background and diminutive size, Sanyi Kocsis [Pictured], is the type of defenseman hockey general managers desperately want day in and day out.

Toronto, Canada - With HV71's playoff hopes over, most players would return home to relax and partially workout in order to stay in shape. This is not the case for 17-year old Sanyi Kocsis, who has been flown out to Toronto, Canada, in order to help showcase his abilities and to test out a few of Bauer's newest hockey sticks.

Aside from being just another 17-year old from Europe trying to make it to the show, Kocsis has showcased his ability to separate himself from the rest of the draft class. Thanks to numerous seasons in the Swedish Hockey League, the season and half of professional hockey has helped elevate Kocsis' skills to another level. Whether if this is in his decision making, his discipline, his vision, or his skating, Kocsis has put it upon himself to try and become the best player, never mind defenseman, in the upcoming S44 SMJHL Entry Draft.

Why should people pay attention to him though? Sure, an unorthodox hockey background, coming from Hungary, helps in building some sort of storyline about Kocsis and his dream of playing professional hockey in the SHL. However, it doesn't explain the whole story behind Kocsis' drive and commitment to making his dream a reality. Thanks to his character, Kocsis has put countless hours in the gym, on the ice, and proving to his doubters that he is the real deal, and he can succeed in hockey.

"It's tough to adjust to North America." Kocsis said during an interview. "Much different than Sweden, or Europe in general. Colder, more English, less chocolates and Swedish."

Aside from being potentially one of the most underrated European prospects in the past ten seasons, Kocsis' leadership and adaptability have been consistently highlighted in his plays in both the Swedish Hockey League and in the J20 Leagues. There are a few videos out there of Kocsis being beaten on one play, recovering to prevent his opponent from generating a chance, and then when his opponent attempts the play again, Kocsis able to pick up on it and shut him down before any ground is made.

"He's quick, fluid in his skating, and he's an energetic kid." eliteprospects.com scout Kevin Richman said in his scouting report. "Huge aspect of Kocsis' game is his positioning and his vision when it comes to passing. He could easily quarterback a powerplay in his rookie SMJHL season, no doubt about it."

"I want to play hockey." Kocsis said during an interview. "Flashy lights don't mean anything."
