Kelowna Knights - Anchorage Armada

In Anchorage Armadas home opener they faced the Kelowna Knights. The Knights finished seventh in the pre-season index while Anchorage Armada finished third. In the pre-season Anchorage Armada was 3-2-0 against the Kelowna Knights.

First period
The crowd was buzzing and the Anchorage Armada fed off that energy. It didn’t take long to get their first goal of the season. 1 minute and 19 seconds into the game Maxime Bouchard opened the score. He was assisted by Mika Mayfield and Dean Colt III. The Kelowna Knights looked lost and uninspired while on the power play just 5 minutes into the game. With only 1 shot on goal it was a disappointing power play. The Anchorage Armada did convert their first power play of the game and scored 0-2 from a Jacob Geza goal from the circle. He was assisted by Ricardo Cotalay. Throughout the rest of the period the Armada kept the pressure on outshooting the Knights 11 to 4.

Second period
The second period showed similar teams. Armada was looking to add to their goals and Kelowna was nowhere to be found. Too many turnovers throughout the entire period. Goaltender Vivian Leblanc was outstanding this period and kept Kelowna in the game. But late in the period Andris Dzerins scored on a break away from a Ashburn McAllister pass at 19:35. Vivian Leblanc had no answer and was furious at his teammates when the period ended as they went into the locker room.

Third period
The Armada came out steaming from the locker room and it didn’t take much effort to score their third goal of the game at 3:03. Mika Mayfield scored with a backhander from a Dean Colt III assist, his second assist of the game. 20 second later it was Leopold Lockhart who was setup by Mika Mayfield and Maxime Bouchard to make it a 5 goal game. The Knights looked devastated. Knights called for a time-out at this time. The time-out seemed to work because 10 seconds after the 5th goal it was Nolan Sawchuck who destroyed Hank Scorpio’s hope for a shutout. The Knights tried to get back in the game, but it was too late. At 15:52 Shouta Aizawa was able to close gap with another goal, but the loss was inevitable.
