So, the Season 47 SMJHL Entry draft is over, with 60 total rookies entering the juniors this season. Here's a rundown.
Round 1: 1st: 1OA ![]() Position: C - 1st selected recreate No surprise here, it's Esa. Enough Said really. 2nd: 2OA ![]() rookie Position: D - 1st selected A small surprise, with many expecting Bathory to go at second. However, his activity on the forums and on discord clearly paid off. A strong two way defenseman, he is expected to produce great things. The first absolute rookie in the draft 3rd: 3OA ![]() recreate Position: D - 2nd selected No surprise that Bathory goes early, he'd been active before the draft, and for a few weeks slowly gaining some TPE to put him ahead of the rest of the class. Another strong two-way defenseman, he also looks to be a promising player 4th: 4OA ![]() recreate Position: C - 2nd selected The author had Hagan going at 3 in his predictions, and for obvious reasons. A two-way forward, with years of SHL experience, mean this is definitely a strong choice for the militia 5th: 5OA ![]() rookie position - RW - 1st selected The second complete rookie, and for obvious reasons. He's been very active on discord, a great guy, and is building a solid playmaking forward. Kelowna knew what they were doing with this one. 6th: 6OA ![]() rookie position - D - 3rd selected A lot of strong defensive prospects so far, and they're going early. A slightly earlier than expected pick up of Tony Ford, although not a huge surprise. One look at SMJHL media will show how active some of these defensemen have been (especially those who played for the Vipers in the rookie showcase), and it's paying off. Tony Ford is an attacking defenseman, another defenseman who wants to make plays up front as well. They're looking popular in this draft. 7th: 7OA ![]() recreate position - LW - 1st selected Another veteran, so it's no surprise that the proven storm gets taken in the first round. Likely to be a strong player for many seasons on the left wing, he's definitely a solid selection for the Raptors. 8th: 8OA ![]() rookie position - D - 4th selected The 4th defenseman taken is the 3rd of the 4 who played for the Vipers in the showcase. Also the fourth rookie. He's also been active on the forum and discord, and Vancouver must've noticed. Not a surprising pick, as GMs had declared interest in Jax before the draft. 9th: 9OA ![]() rookie position - C - 3rd selected The third center, and again no surprise. Another Viper who had been active across forums, he also seemed to have built an effective playmaker, leading the rookie showcase in assists. Something of a surprise that he dropped this far, but he was never likely to fall out of the first round 10th: 10OA ![]() recreate position - RW - 2nd selected The 2nd right wing and its no surprise. jjlangabeer has been around since 2012, and is definitely a strong choice. A slight surprise he dropped this far, especially given his solid performance in the showcase, but a good pick for the Scarecrows That's the complete first round. No major surprises, but a few upset predictions. Now for highlights of the rest of the draft 2nd round: 4th: 14OA ![]() rookie position - RW - 4th selected Another solid winger, Julio coming in as a rookie and being active enough to get into the top 20. Likely to be a solid player for the raptors 10th: 20OA ![]() recreate postion - D another 2 way defenseman, Miikka was no surprise going in the top 20. Mostly gets a mention because he was the only person I managed to get right in my draft prediction. 3rd round: 2nd: 22OA ![]() rookie position - D Another defenseman picked up by the Falcons, and this is a fully defensive one (unlike the rest, who all seem to be two way). Wibbly was predicted by most to go in the top 2 rounds due to his activity, and friendly character. 9th: 29OA ![]() rookie position - LW A Left wing selection, who looks like a steal at 29. Great personality, and very active so far. Another great pick for the Armada 4th Round 4th: 34OA ![]() recreate position - D Another Defenseman for my list, FourFour is a veteran of the site, but was seen complaining at GMs before the draft, so it may be no surprise that he dropped this low I'm tired, so that'll be all for now. A solid draft class, and only time will tell which rookies will pan out and which will slump. x2 draft week media bonus ![]() ![]() Thanks to @Carpy48 , @sköldpaddor, @Weretarantula, @Bruins10 and @Wasty for sigs Extra special thanks to @Julio Tokolosh for the sick gif one |
