2x Draft Media, 1033 Words, Ready for Grading

For all of those tuning in for the first time, we are back with a follow up interview with a player we had talked to before the draft.  This is another interview in a series where our studio will be deep diving into talking to one rookie this season and following his career all the way from the SHJL draft to the SHL draft.  This should be an interesting look at the development of a player throughout an entire season.  Our aim is to interview Phineas after every block of games or at least once a week to see how he is doing with his player development and overall excitement to be drafted and playing for a hockey team.
Hi Phineas.  It is good to see you again now that the jitters of the draft have passed.  We here at the studio want to congratulate your performance and getting drafted at lucky number 13 to the Montreal Militia.  Can you tell us a little bit of your thoughts when at the moment when the draft started at 7:30 PM?
Hi guys.  Glad to be back for an interview again.  I just want to say on behalf of myself and my manager, thank you for picking me to be the rookie study this season.  I am looking forward to sharing my thoughts and analysis on my growth throughout this entire season.  Hopefully we’ll get to share some ups and downs.  Going into the draft I was a little nervous.  I had been talking with the other members of my draft class as none of us knew who would be drafted where.  There was some consensus that a few players had guaranteed draft spots due to negotiations between all the teams, but the rest of us were unknowns.  Through talking with the GMs, other players informed me that I had a good chance to go in the top 20.  We just didn’t know where.  After a good talk with the MTL GM I was hoping to go to their team, and knew they had 3 picks in the top 20.
So what did it feel like to get drafted early on and what did you do immediately afterwards?
I have to say that it felt pretty damn amazing out there.  I have to say congratulations to all the other members of my draft class for all getting a team and really putting themselves out there in the showcase as well the media.  We were all cheering for each other, hooting, and hollering after every pick.  It was a really emotional time.  I feel like the SHL draft will be a bit more serious.  At this time none of us our rivals and we all expect the world.  Let’s see what happens when we start being put through the grind of the junior league.
What are your immediate thoughts about the Militia and where do you see yourself on this team?
I can probably only answer half of this question right now.  I really like the Militia.  Their GM talked to me before the draft and let me know that their team is going into a rebuild so if I proved myself to them they would give me a place to shine.  That being said there is no way I am getting first line minutes right away.  I showed in the showcase that I am not one to shy away from taking shots but I really need to up my defensive game.  No reason I can’t score and be on the ice to help stop the other team.  After seeing all those goals scored while I was on the ice, I was really disheartened.  But the more upset I get the more I redouble on taking shots.  As a wise coach once told me, “If you shoot enough times, you are bound to get one in eventually.”  I have to capitalize on my strengths first while trying to shore up my weaknesses.  In the meantime, I see myself getting some early minutes as the team tests me out.  Of course it’s up to our GM how much I play, but I am hoping that I can get some serious quality attempts and minutes for my first few games.
What steps are you taking to fix your weaknesses?
Well after talking to some of the SHJL coaches during the early days of the draft they all told me to drill hard on my defense.  Pretty much every day I have been doing defending drills to get myself up to league standards.  Since I announced my attention to be drafted for the 50th season of the SHL league I have increased my defense by around 50%.  I am looking for more ways to be better at positioning and defense so that I can be more effective to my team.   We just had a 5 day training camp that helped to bolster my abilities.  I also went and bought all new gear that should give me just a little bit more of an edge.
Alright time for a fun question, what are your plans for this weekend?
With draft day behind us, I am looking to kick back and relax.  I am going to go out and eat with my friends before shipping off to Montreal.  It’s sad that I have to leave this area that I grew up in, but it’s time for me to start my career.  So one last jaunt to the local bar, one last burger at Louis’ Lunch, one last cheese pizza at Pepe’s Pizzeria, and finally a chocolate milk shake and a grilled cheese at the diner.
Well that’s all the questions we have for now.  Thank you so much for your time again.
No problem guys, we’ll see a lot of each other this year!
You betcha.  As for our team we are going to be cleaning out our homes as we make the trek to Montreal to continue coverage of the rookie Phineas Gold.  Please tune in next time to our broadcast as we cover the formative years of Phineas in high school as he was tearing up the Connecticut and New England leagues.  Good Morning, the 9am news is next.
