For my first deep dive, let us take a trip down memory lane of my very first player on the Simulation Hockey League, who is in his last season on the Hamilton Steelhawks, Devin Basher. Basher had a successful 14 season long career, getting drafted 12th overall to the Vancouver Whalers in juniors, where we won a cup, and drafted 7th overall to the at the time, Minnesota Chiefs, then turned to Minnesota Monarchs. The following season, he was traded to the Hamilton Steelhawks where he stayed through his whole career, and won 3 cups with them. He is currently playing out his last season with Hamilton and will retire afterwards. In between all this he had a good WJC and IIHF career, contributing to some great times and achieving some pretty cool milestones.

His junior career began quite timid, only putting up 9 points his first full season with the team. The following seasons, he tripled then quadrupled his points over 3 seasons, and his last 3 seasons with the team before being sent up, played through 3 playoffs, and won the Four Star Cup in season 56, by scoring the cup winning goal in overtime of the final game. Stakes were high, and the locker room was full of excitement and chaos. It was truly a memorable experience for Basher and the Whalers.

That same season he won the Four Star Cup with Vancouver, Team Canada also won a Gold Medal for the second time with Basher, along with Team Canada earning a Silver Medal in Season 55. The first gold medal they won with Basher was his starting season.

As of Season 58, Basher has begun his first season in the big leagues. His first season with the team, the Hamilton Steelhawks take to the playoffs, and the team win the Challenge Cup in his first season with them. What a way to start! Funny how this happened to Basher starting on Team Canada his starting season. Must be a good luck charm. This really set the tone for what kind of career Basher is about to have. Season after season, playoffs after playoffs, Basher and the team manage to secure another 2 cups in Season 61 and Season 63. Almost back to back to back, but unfortunately lost in the finals of Season 62. Hamilton had a good run of attending 8 playoffs in a row with Basher, from Seasons 58 to 66, missing Season 67 due to a big team rebuild. Season 66, the season before the rebuild, was the season Basher put up the most points in his career, at a total of 75: 34 goals, and 41 assists. As of right now, Hamilton is at the bottom of the leaderboard for this regular season, and might not make it to playoffs again for his final hoorah.

Devin Basher played for Team Canada in the IIHF from Season 63 to Season 66, that first season again winning a medal for Team Canada in the same season he won a Challenge Cup. This happened twice while winning a cup in the SMJHL and SHL. A cool coincidence.

Overall I'm quite pleased with how my first player performed, he had a good run, I've made great friends along the way and I look forward to see what my next player does.
