A Look Back at The S20 Draft Class First Round
#1

As many of you know, the S20 SHL Entry Draft Class was a class rivaling the S14 class. With 12 rounds, it is one of the largest drafts in the history of the SMJHL. With 7 rounds, it is one of the largest drafts in the history of the SHL. Several players from this class are expected to be superstars. But let us check out how they have lived up to their draft spots.

1. :force: Chuck Goody (464 TPE)
Goody was highly touted coming into the draft. He is the classic stay-at-home defenceman from Boston. He was drafted first overall to the Regina Force. In his first season in the SMJHL, he lived up to the hype. He even threw some offence into his game as well!
Code:
Player Name                    GP  G   A   P  +/- PIM PM5 HIT HTT SHT OSB OSM  SHT %  SB   MP  AMG
Chuck Goody (R) (RGF)          40   4  17  21  -6  85  15  82  31  40   0   0 10.00%  29  836 20.89

In his second season in the SMJHL, Goody’s play was phenomenal. He put up extremely high number is points, penalty minutes, and hits. He was probably one of Regina’s top players, and no doubt a superstar.
Code:
Player Name                    GP  G   A   P  +/- PIM PM5 HIT HTT SHT OSB OSM  SHT %  SB   MP  AMG
Chuck Goody (RGF)              40   8  28  36 -18 100  20 100  60  62   0   0 12.90%  65 1014 25.34

I think that Goody has the potential to be a star, top pairing defenceman in the SHL for the Manhattan Rage. The Rage have collected a lot of players with fantastic potential in the last draft, and Goody probably highlights them.

2. Falcons Jamie Hawkins (414 TPE)
Hawkins was also a very intriguing prospect, who many thought would go first overall. But, after the Force selected Goody, the Falcons were going with a steal, Jamie Hawkins. In Hawkins first SMJHL season, he didn’t really live up to the hype, so to speak. It seemed that he needed more time to develop, and work on his game.
Code:
Player Name                    GP  G   A   P  +/- PIM PM5 HIT HTT SHT OSB OSM  SHT %  SB   MP  AMG
Jamie Hawkins (R) (DET)        40  17  12  29  -3  15   5  30  54 122   0   0 13.93%   4  847 21.16

And develop, he did. Hawkins just dominated the SMJHL in S20. He was close to doubling his point total, and was the centerpiece of a very strong Detroit Falcons team. He was definitely Detroit’s top player and will probably win a lot of awards at the S20 SMJHL Award Show.
Code:
Player Name                    GP  G   A   P  +/- PIM PM5 HIT HTT SHT OSB OSM  SHT %  SB   MP  AMG
Jamie Hawkins (DET)            40  26  31  57  20   7   5  27  46 180   0   0 14.44%   9  874 21.85
Hawkins was drafted 6th overall by the Minnesota Chiefs in the draft. The Chiefs are a team that needs a lot of help right now, and Hawkins could be their saviour.

3. Whalers Benjamin Reid (430 TPE)
Unlike Chuck Goody and Jamie Hawkins, Benjamin Reid’s agent, Anchorage42, was very new to the league. Reid had build up a lot of hype during the days coming up to the draft. This offensive defenceman lit the league up in his first season, placing 3rd in points among rookie defencemen.
Code:
Player Name                    GP  G   A   P  +/- PIM PM5 HIT HTT SHT OSB OSM  SHT %  SB   MP  AMG
Benjamin Reid  (R) (VAN)       40   6  27  33  11  12  10   4  31  65   0   0  9.23%  36  889 22.21

For his second season, Reid moved up to the show. He played for the New England Wolfpack, of the SHL. He showed some rookie jitters, and had a sub-par rookie season. He still did pretty good, finishing just below Kaspars Tsizling in points.
Code:
Player Name                    GP  G   A   P  +/- PIM PM5 HIT HTT SHT OSB OSM  SHT %  SB   MP  AMG
Benjamin Reid (R) (NEW)        50   7   9  16   2   8   0  34  37  68   0   0 10.29%  45 1070 21.39

Reid has a bright future ahead of him, and will put up fantastic numbers in the SHL. He has shown fantastic dedication and drive. This guy will make waves in the SHL.

4. :impact: Riley Forsberg (445 TPE)
Biggest bust of the draft tbh. Didn’t live up to SMJHL rookie season expectations at all. Forsberg was supposed to be a star. All joking aside, Riley didn’t really do as well as many thought we would. He had weak numbers and really needed to work on anything to do better.
Code:
Player Name                    GP  G   A   P  +/- PIM PM5 HIT HTT SHT OSB OSM  SHT %  SB   MP  AMG
Riley Forsberg (R) (MTL)       40   9   8  17   2  37   5  58  19  72   0   0 12.50%   1  630 15.76

Puck Hog. BUST.
Code:
Player Name                    GP  G   A   P  +/- PIM PM5 HIT HTT SHT OSB OSM  SHT %  SB   MP  AMG
Riley Forsberg (TOR)           50   7   0   7 -10  22   0  63  22  30   0   0 23.33%   1  901 18.02
In his first 2 seasons, Forsberg has shown to be the bust that we all suspected after his first season. Can he turn it around?

5. Scarecrows Aleksander Holliday (207 TPE)
Surprisingly, there actually is a bigger first round bust in this draft than Forsbust. Holliday was drafted 5th overall, by the St. Louis Scarecrows, and promptly went inactive. He only got up to 207 TPE, and then vanished. Not much else to say about him. He actually didn’t do terrible in his rookie season. He had the second most rookie points on the Crows.
Code:
Player Name                    GP  G   A   P  +/- PIM PM5 HIT HTT SHT OSB OSM  SHT %  SB   MP  AMG
Aleksander Holliday  (R) (STL) 40   9  12  21   8   8   0  18  26  74   0   0 12.16%   4  464 11.61

I couldn’t find Holliday’s second season stats. Nothing more to say, really.

6. Knights Kristian Eriksen (474 TPE)
Eriksen has the most TPE out of anyone that was drafted in the first round. In his rookie season, he was a player that did well, but was not recognized very much. He was a key player for the Kelowna Knights in his first season there. A very active player, Eriksen was a perfect fit for the Knights.
Code:
Player Name                    GP  G   A   P  +/- PIM PM5 HIT HTT SHT OSB OSM  SHT %  SB   MP  AMG
Kristian Eriksson (R) (KEL)    40  14  12  26  -4   6   0  21  25  86   0   0 16.28%   2  702 17.55

In his second season, Eriksen was a send-down. He performed beautifully and was a perfect mentor for the 1st overall pick in the S20 SMJHL draft, Sean Leonidas. Leonidas struggled, but Kristian Eriksen did not struggle at all.
Code:
Player Name                    GP  G   A   P  +/- PIM PM5 HIT HTT SHT OSB OSM  SHT %  SB   MP  AMG
Kristian Eriksson (KEL)        40  13  22  35   6   4   0  21  46 140   0   0  9.29%  11  760 19.00

Eriksen will be a huge player for his SHL team, the Toronto North Stars, in the future. Maybe he will even make Forsbust a decent player.

Why would you post a recap of an SMJHL draft in SHL media?

Also why do you refer to what is clearly the s19 SMJHL entry draft, as the s20 SHL entry draft?
