Bishop Conacher was a coin toss nobody woulda expected him to go full Vezina mode. (And ur certainly not the first team in the last 5 years to make a bad G trade. See WSH,PHI.). At the same time no one expected Conacher to just stop producing like.instantly.

Lee was a bad call but Diagle was worse sooo lol.

Hossa i believe was budget and Heatly was a great player back then and still signed.

He did nothing in Binghamton, from what I remember.

I feel like Redden was nearing his career. No way he was better than Chara at the time of the signings. Not even debateable, in my opinion.

If conacher actually worked out, I would've been willing to eat my words. Never believed in the trade tho. I saw bishop as an NHL-ready goalie at the time of the trade.

Redden was 28 had the best year of his career and wad consistently one of the best defenders in the NH at the time.

Chara was just starting to come into his own at around the same age just had only his 2nd good season after 3 awful years and 2 decent years

So not really. Obviously now looking back on it it was a bad deal but u can rarely predict the future

At the time Reden was the better defensmen, especially when you consider the direction in which the league was heading (less obstruction and such), just so happened the players went in opposite directions after that point. Hindsight is 20/20.

Conacher was the best that was on the table for Bishop. Bishop was going, he was the third man, no if, ands, or buts about it. They weren't moving their no.1 (Anderson) and Lehner was considered the future.

MacLean is not at fault for how awful that team is built. This was their destiny going into the season, and even a hot Anderson can't save them

Unfortunately he is the fall guy/scapegoat. Odd timing after coming back from 3-0 to beat the Nucks :lol:

I liked him so this is a real shocker to me, but coaches are often the first to fall when a team is felt to be under performing.

How were they expecting to perform is my question? You move Spezza for next to nothing and expect to still be a good team?

I know you and I don't see eye to eye when it comes to the Sens, but the return for Spezza wasn't bad at all. If Paul pans out as nicely as he looks right now, it might even be in the favour of the Sens in the future.

Regardless, I have no idea. The team has an extremely low payroll, even with Ryan signing. Watching the games, you can see it's an extremely young and in-experienced team which just needs some damn time to grow and mature. Flashes of dominance followed by just... brutal play. You can't coach that (but it certainly helps), it's just an experience issue on being consistent.

Which really is just may long winded way of saying "lol, no idea"

Isn't exactly a great time to fire him either. Who is out there that would be a real solid replacement that would develop their young guys and teach them?

It may be good in the future. But I meant in terms of right now, it's next to nothing right now, it's not going to help them out for a couple years and the trade itself may be fine but it seems they were expecting more than they're getting now despite having the lowest payroll, and losing a top 6 center.

Maybe, wasn't he a good player coach at one time or another? That's all I'm looking for in a coach really. Someone who will develop the kids. McLean was great, but he really relied heavily on the vets.
