Steve Linkos will be heading into the draft today as a projected 2nd round pick. He is looking to be one of the top taken Left Wingers. This draft features a ton of wingers with high potential, teams needing a few wingers this is your draft. Right wing has by far the strongest position heading into the draft with six players how could go in the first round. There are still some strong players in other positions in defense there are several players with strong draft stock and two goalies looking to go high in the draft. The center position seems to be weakest for the draft with only one projected to go in the top ten. The second round of the draft is where many wingers are hoping to get picked up.

Before the season started the number one prospect going in was teammate Stacker Pentecost. Pentecost was taken first overall by the scarecrows but half way through the season stopped showing up to practice and seemed to lose interest. Pentecost is still a high prospect but teams are holding out worried about his commitment. In his place another defender has taken his place as the top prospect Mariusz Kwik taken second overall in the SMJHL draft.

In the year off the winger the top winger going in this year’s draft is looking to be Pierre-Luc Laflamme. He entered the SMJHL late and was only taken 10th overall but was named captain and has moved up the draft board since. He is now the top right winger and projected to be the second pick.

Hidden gem Steve Linkos had an impressive year for the Scarecrows but has had a hard time making a name for himself because of all the wings in his draft class. Starting his SMJHL career he was drafted 24th overall by the scarecrows. Linkos was placed on the first line and was able to produce 9 goals and 25 assists for 34 points. He led the rookies on the scarecrows in points and was second on the team in assists. In the league Linkos ranked 9th in points among left wings and among rookies Linkos ranked 5th. In plus/minus linkos was 9th at +15 and was 8th in the league in points per 20 minutes with 1.12.

As the draft approaches Linkos by most is thought to be going 14th overall to the Winnipeg Jets. The Jets do not appear to need a left winger so there is a good chance he could get picked elsewhere. Other teams who have picks in the second round who could pick him up are the Los Angeles Panthers who have two picks mid second round among the many picks they have this draft. The New England Wolfpack has two picks in the second round and there pick at 17 is there highest pick. The Wolfpack have a strong team and are just looking for more depth this could be a great pick to get a great winger.

Linkos has the talent to be a top level player but his position is packed with high level players. Teams that need depth at winger and are willing to wait a season or two for the pick to pay off should be interested in Linkos. There aren’t too many teams with second round picks that have that need. For those teams who do have that need Linkos will be a great pick for you.
