Every season has the potential to make a big splash seems they only come around every 5-6 seasons we had S5,S6,S14,S20 all considered to be among the best and deepest drafts in SHL history. Now S24 may not be as deep as any of those but they certainly could make history.

As it stands right now we have 7 goalies set to enter the next SMJHL draft. If even 4 of these goalies can stay active and grow for a few seasons, then we could see history made as the deepest drafts for goalies in SHL history. We have had season 14 bring us 3 high profiles goalies all who lasted at least a few seasons. S7 bring us Aitto and Prik, however we have never had a deep draft of goalies.

Today we are going to break down each and everyone of these goalies and rank them as they stand right now.

High Profile

Right now as we stand we have three high profile goalies, guys who have gotten their names out there. those two goalies are Kyle Prince, Tyler No Nerves,and Igor Ogorodnikov.

Kyle Prince


As it stand right now Prince is likely the biggest goalie name out there right now, The 6 foot 3 Calgary,Alberta native has worked hard early on to get his name out there. He is a hybrid goalie that is a weak skater, but uses strong legs and arms to make saves most goalies might now be able too. He has built a solid bank up quickly and has been quieter since. If he keeps his solid updates and making sure his name gets out there no reason he wont be the first goalie to hear his name called.

Igor Ogorodnikov


The high profile agency brings in his second goalie to the SHL, well he did not have an amazing career he was a solid starter for many seasons. Unlike Prince he likely will not have to work as hard to get his name out there. Coming from a high profile and respected agency gives him a few notches about the competition. Don't be surprised to see the small Russian become the first name called. Like Prince his weakness is skating, however he is so technical and has solid rebound control that he does not move very much anyways.

Tyler No Nerves


The big guy from Norway may be quiet in the media but he has already shown strong work ethic, he currently sits second in TPE just behind Prince who started earlier. He will need to get more involved in media is he wants to keep training,but so far we like what we have seen out of him. Seems a trend in this draft so far as like the two above he is a weak skater, but like Prince he seems to be able to use his quick reflexes to make up for his stride. I don't see him being called above the two i mentioned before unless they both go inactive.

Second Tier

Earnest Ciarelli


A lower tier agency starting from scratch after a semi successful agent. There will be question marks surrounding this goalie, but that certainly wont stop teams from looking at him if they miss out on the bigger fish. The big goalie from Antarctica like all goalies above is a weak skater, but like Prince and No Nerves makes up for it with quick legs and hands. I certainly expect him to be the first name called after the big fish find there homes.

The unknown factor

Gregory Guard


The first of the new blood that is going to have to work hard to carve out a solid career. Being fresh blood is not a bad thing, and if he can work hard the Austrian native could be a steal for some team. The trend of weak skaters continues almost like they all copied the same weakness. Like most he makes up for it by quick hands and feet. Expect him to be called later on but he could be a steal if he stays active and works hard.

Lee Bowden


Another new face from the United Kingdom this time has been quiet, however like Guard if he can stay active he could be a steal later on for teams who may need a safety blanket. The first goalie whose weakness is not skating, Bowden struggles getting post to post. He is however very technical and makes up for the weak movement with solid rebound control. Another later round pick that could be a steal.

Andrew Riley


Hard to judge as he just declared for the draft, however he still remains and rather unknown. The New York native is one of the biggest goalies in the draft behind No Nerves. Like No Nerves he is a weak skater that relies on his quick hands and legs to make saves. Riley will be another late pick but could improve his stock if he puts his name out there.
