Hello out there, I am Dick Shivers. I am able to sit down with New England Wolfpack player, Dean Colt, and ask him a few questions now that New England has secured themselves a playoff birth and the team isn't so tense.  Dean, with two games remaining in the season, New England has secured a playoff birth. At the moment, it would appear that you are facing the Rage again but that could change given the dogfight tomorrow will be in regards to the Manhattan and Stars game. Which team would you rather see?Both would be fun to play against, but I would have to go with the Rage. I would love nothing more then to sweep them in the opening round and put an exclamation point on why last season was a fluke and how a Challenge Cup winning team shouldn't be on the playoff bubble without losing anyone. Then again, it would be refreshing to see them miss the playoffs altogether and be certain. Either way, both teams rely strongly on their powerplays and against us, they have not been as potent. I expect that trend to continue in the playoffs. A career season, Dean. You broke your goal scoring and point scoring records, with five goals and twelve assists. Not much progression but some. What has sparked this recent offensive outburst? Any idea?I don't know for sure, but I can say that winning at home for the first time after starting the season 0-7 definitely boosted our spirits, Kovy has been a little frustrated with his lack of production in his final season which is why I have made as much of an effort as I can to pass perfectly. It has paid off incredibly, I am able to feed him one-timers and I swear they don't touch the blade of his stick, they just get feather light redirected. The guy is a goal scoring whiz who is getting used to having a different setuup man then he is used to. I am glad that has worked out well and I have to say it is nice that I have been able to do that well and provide that means of support to him. Who do you see emerging from the West?It would seem that the Riot are quietly putting together an incredible season, it would be neat to see McZehrl face his former team and win a Cup against them before riding off into the sunset but if not, I say it will likely be the Panthers. They have been consistently good all season and with consistancy comes wins in the playoffs. No love for the Renegades? Or is that because they seem to have your number on the penalty kill this season?Ha, that is unfortunate yes. We haven't had much long and with out normally dominating shutdown we haven't had to worry except against Texas because for whatever reason, they seem to be able to tear us a now one on the man advantage. That's fine, I will be happy dominating the other eleven teams in the defensive zone. Speaking of that, you are among the league leaders in faceoff percentage which must be a godsend for New England to know that they can count on defensive zone possession more often then not.It has been, none of the penalty kill unit has been spoken to in the last two weeks. The four of us are so used to playing with each other now it's second nature what to do. Having someone as big, strong and skilled as McZ paired with me definitely helps and his puck handling ability has been phenomenal. Him and I are both able to cycle the puck well and punch into the offensive zone knowing we have possibly the best shutdown pair in the league, in Weber and Tsizling, should things swing the other way and with my speed and McZs, that's only a second or two before we are back in the defensive zone putting pressure on the shooters. With the departure of both McZ, Samsinov and Kovalenko next season, how do you think that will affect the team in both productiion, wins and especially penalty kill as you will lose your partner.With Carter as big as he is, he brings a similar high level of skill to the game and I hope him being moved onto the first unit with myself and perhaps Russell paired with Wikstrom or vice versa that we will be able to replicate this seasons success on the penalty kill. The forward core just lost two of it's top players however the ones that remain are only getting better with Russell, Reid, Wikstrom, Buckley, O'Reilly, Winchester and of course myself rising up the depth charts. Depth, that's another thing I wanted to touch on. Every player seems to be doing well with the team scoring spread out, yourself one of only three players outside the twenty point mark with seventeen, the other two being Winchester with seven and Vyskoc with five however given their limited ice time and talent level, they will both need more seasoning before they make more of an impact, your thoughts on what next season holds for you and them?With McZ, Kovy and Samsinov retiring, I see myself probably switching to wing and if not, likely playing on the second line, possibly staying on the third for shutdown purposes as I seem to be exceedingly good at that for some reason. I see myself cracking twenty points next season as I will be counted on to provide more offense with them leaving. Vyskoc will likely move up a line and play on the third consistently and that will be a huge boon to his stats line as he will be playing with either myself or Wikstrom an entire season. That will give him an opportunity to build some chemistry with either of us and the more he improves the more production you should see from him. With Winchester, he has been phenomenal defensively as he has a team leading +12 rating being paired with Russell and receiving limited ice time, he has a wicked shot and twice now has been clutch for the Wolfpack, scoring the game winner to break the home losing streak as well as the home loss streak against the Rage. I am predicting twenty five points for me, fifteen for Vyskoc and ten for Winchester. What about the rookies, Buckley, O'Reilly and Demko? How do you see them doing?Well as I am sure you know, Tennyson has left us. Probably for the best cause while the team has their trust in the penalty kill counting on him has been nothing but a mistake. Hopefully Demko can take over and provide a strong presense in that void. With Buckley we are getting one gritty bastard. The guy has over a hundred hits this past season, breaking his personal best and leading the juniors in that category. I definitely look forward to having him here. O'Reilly is a bit quieter, but I think he will do well here once he is out of juniors. He would be a wonderful addition to the third line if Vyskoc and Wikstrom are the ones who will be occupying it next season as he brings a high level of energy to the ice. Alright, last question. Do you really plan on playing for twenty five seasons? Yes, All of them. My plan is to retire at the end of Season 45, having played for 25 seasons. At that time, we will just have to see dude.
