SMJHL Teams are not cults. Alumnus are great but some of the great GMs in SMJHL history have come from non-alumni. Especially given rosters than change largely every season or two, it's as big a non-factor as you can get when making a GM hiring decision from apps.

I am sort of on the boat with the selection NOT having to be an alumni member. If we followed this process for every General Manager opening, we would many times not hire the best candidate, because being an alumni would be priority number one, as opposed to the best quality and capable person being hired.

For those worried about me not being an alum im sorry if any whalers feel cheated, it was not my intention while applying for this job, but just know that I will do just as good as if i were an alum. In the end its about the new players, the rookies and the people who will be in the shl, not those who are already there.
