Colt for O'Callahan A hypothetical analysis (NOT REAL)
#1

THIS IS NOT AN ACTUAL TRADE

(1000 Words)

For the recent point task, we were asked to play GM and make a trade. So after considering potential trades for the past few days (when I normally do the PT right away) I decided I would be stepping down as GM and trading myself in the process to hand the reins over to someone else. I can't trade people, it's why I suck as a Head GM and it's why no trade I could offer would another GM accept, so I figured trade myself for the player I modeled mine after,

In the NHL we see kids idolize the stars, well in short when I went to retire one year ago today I looked at the SHL index and looked for a player whom I wanted mine to be most like, an aggressive power-forward, built like a bull and would hit like one as well. The obvious choice was O'Callahan (with a close second being McKeil)

Being drafted to New England I saw an opportunity to take over in his stead once he retired but having won the cup, Cally sought further contention and unfortunately the Wolfpack could not offer it with the departure of McZehrl, Kovalenko, Samsinov, and our goalie.Colt is all of a sudden placed smack dab in his shoes.

So let's examine the players right now,

S14 Carter O'Callahan vs S20 Dean Colt

Banked TPE: 224 vs 3 (Cally has enough saved plus next years TPE to fight off regression completely, then begins to crumble a bit for five seasons unable to fight it off completely and Colt will begin to take over stat wise)

CK = Checking: 97 vs 90 (Cally has better hitting, but this is also a strength of Colts and will be put to 97 by seasons end)

FG = Fighting: 37 vs 25 (Cally has better fighting, but who would argue this)

DI = Discipline: 62 (Even)

SK = Skating: 95 vs 94 (Comparable)

ST = Strength: 93 vs 99 (Colt is stronger, leading league in hits taken)

EN = Endurance: 95 vs 93 (Comparable and being risen to 95 by end of season)

DU= Durability: 50 vs 50 (Even, as if it matters)

PH = Puck Handling: 92 vs 93 (Comparable)

FO = Face Offs: 95 vs 95 (Comparable, however Strength is taken into account on faceoffs)

PA = Passing: 99 vs 99 (Even)

SC = Scoring: 93 vs 76 (Cally by far, I don't plan to put this above 83 though)

DF = Defense: 94 vs 85 (Cally by far, however until I can get scoring up to 83 I need to keep this where it is to keep my sim formula correct and even then only to 90)

PS = Penalty Shot: 90 vs 53 (Not even close, didn't know Cally was leaving and we needed someone in the shootout so I never put points into it, will be up to 75-80 at seasons end)

Right now Cally has better Checking, Scoring, Defense and Penalty Shot while Colt is stronger and getting to that level in checking and defense and improving on penalty shot over the coming season

Cally (Fever) has plans to retire at the end of Season 30 (7 Seasons including this one) and doesn't mind being traded as well as wanting to play on a contender, Colt (Mac) plans to retire in Season 45 (22 seasons including this one) and is known to spend prolonged periods on one team giving the receiving team the assurance of a good player for a long time who is willing to play top to bottom.

Given the comparable builds, we should have fairly similar stats, so let's examine them.

Goals
Colt 5
O'Callahan 5

Even in scoring. Would like to note this is a tie for a career high by Colt.

Assists
Colt 10
O'Callahan 6

Colt has set up a few more but has gone cold as well.

+/-
O'Callahan 5
Colt 1

Cally is par for his team, while Colt is second and one of only two plus players.

Hits
O'Callahan 65
Colt 42

O'Callahan has always been a perenial leader and will continue to be for at least two more seasons, Colt is at half his best years output less then half the games in with lower but improving checking

Shots
O'Callahan 43
Colt 41

Colt with a barely better shot percentage.

Minutes per Game
Average Minutes 24.69
Average Minutes 17.11

O'Callahan is not playing on the penalty kill as well as the powerplay like Colt so will slightly lower minutes.

Faceoff Percentage

Colt - 53.80% (10th in league)
O'Callahan - 47.30%

Colt by a bit and has been pretty comparable to O'Callahan since his rookie year in this category.

Points Per 20 Minutes

O'Callahan - 0.64
Colt - 0.61

Very close.

So what does all this mean? From a statisical analysis it would be about even. From a sim analysis, it would swing slightly in Colts favor in a couple seasons but right now it is O'Callahan and from a league perspective, New England would get Fever back who was fantastic in the LR and very missed but would be departing again relatively soon while Seattle gets a player who'd be hellbent on finally winning a Cup with his former team.

Gifter of Bikes (with all due respect to King) is one of the best GM's in the league, however I would be opposite at the GM table (given the PT criteria) and for those of you who don't why GoB is so good, it is due to the best way to have trade discussions is by force feeding him bran and cranberry juice so his ass will loosen up. He is the sort of guy that if you asked for change for a dollar, he'd want a 0.05 cut, so being able to give him shit for squeezing something else out of him instead of the other way around (you just had to have that 3rd rounder in the Cally deal, didn't you Tongue) would be a requirement of the deal.

So all said and done, it would be about even in another season maybe two but for now New England wins the trade, in another few maybe not. Perhaps we will have another look then.

I wonder if I were to edit the title and red text out how many people would come in here tomorrow thinking this was real given the amount of responses.

Interesting! Do you think you really could go to S45? For example I plan to play atleast 20 seasons, so thats @ S36

As long as regression doesn't get too ridiculous, yep, I can. Hate how they want to change the late years of regression when its a handful that want to play 15+

Colt's best season was 17 points. He hasn't shown any sign of having the capability to step into Callahans shoes and replace him. You cant just assume that after 20 games because you have similar points to him that that just makes you EVEN. Lmao.

Also you talk about how good of a GM GoB is and than you shit on him by thinking this is something he would accept.

I get it, Colt has a good build on paper, so does a lot of people, maybe have ONE season where you surpass 40 points before you start calling yourself O'Callahan.

Also lets not forget O'Callahan had 50+ points his 2nd and 3rd season in the league and 60 in his 6th season. Lol.

Ah, I hadn't seen you post in here.

Yes, 17 points with no powerplay time and limited minutes on the 5v5, a total I matched this season when playing on the top line and powerplay at the 22 game mark.
O'Callahan put up those points in his 2nd and 3rd season...playing heavy top line minutes and heavy powerplay minutes, something you are currently getting a lot of and unlike you, that tends to pile the totals up rather quickly.

You are playing 30 minutes a game on two lines, on the powerplay, firing pucks left right and center and not having hit the ten point mark by the midway point of the season yet you talk more shit then anyone.

I previously wasn't in the position to put up points, so I ask then what your excuse is this season.

Difference is CoC and Merica when they get heavy minutes and points their teams do well. You're getting more minutes now and the Pack are dead last. CoC and Merica can carry a mediocre team. Colt I'm not so sure

Thank you to My boys @Merica and @Ragnar for the lovely sigs!

Yeahthat

you're the #1 center on the team and you have 17 points in 22 games…i know it's the best season you've ever had, but it's really nothing special
