Welcome back everyone for one final time! Tonight we take a look at the SHL's top 100 players in history, we have reached the top 10! Tonight you will find out who the #1 player in history is along with the 9 under him. Lets take a good look of the bottom 90 players, and lets jump right to it!
Code: 11.Sarmad Khan 10. Erik Chisling The first member of the SHL’s top 10 players in the SHL is also the youngest of the top 10, Erik Chisling. This kid has been absolutely mental, he has already won 2 Norris cups, out playing the many veterans in the league, and he’s trying to win a 3rd straight. Erik Chisling puts up the points just like if he was a forward, he’s got a huge offensive up-side and he’s reliable in his own end as well. This kid is the full package, and he’s got so many great years ahead of him. Player Comparison: Erik Karlsson 9. Riley Raycroft Riley The Riot Raycroft has been one of the most consistent players in SHL history. He’s never been the best, enough to win himself a scoring title, but he’s always been right up there challenging for it. Raycroft’s scoring abilities are tough to be matched in this league, he’s got 314 points in 357 games which is good for a points per game average of .88 which is 4th highest on the list, under Abdalla and Karpotsov and one who has yet to be named. Raycroft has been one of the best players never to win anything, however he is attempting to win the cup with his Las Vegas Kings this season. Player Comparison: Jonathan Toews 8. Alex Reay Alex Reay is one of the few members to be on the SHL hall of fame. Alex Reay was the leagues MVP, when he won the scoring title and the goal scoring title, which also earned him the Sarmad Khan Trophy for the leagues best player as voted by the SHLPA. Alex Reay ended his career to join the military, he was always a member of the West Kendall Platoon, and won 2 cups with them. He’s definitely one of the greatest players ever to play the game. Player Comparison: Daniel Alfredsson 7. Ryan Jesster Ryan Jesster is one of the 3 great goalies in SHL history. It’s always argued which of the 3 are the best, but in this list Ryan Jesster falls 3rd, and 7th out of all players. Jesster’s weakness was his team, he never had a supporting cast around him before a few seasons ago, and in result never won a Challenge cup. Jesster did win the Sarmad Khan Trophy in season 4 where he was an absolute monster and the backbone of the Calgary Dragons success. This season his team is one of the better teams in the league, and he’s fighting for a cup and a Vezina. Player Comparison: Henrik Lundqvist 6. Brandon Holmes Brandon Holmes much like Alex Reay was a long time Platoon who helped the team win 2 cups in its dynasty days. Holmes retired a couple of seasons ago and was inducted into the SHL hall of fame. Brandon Holmes never did win any big individual trophies in the SHL, but he did post 179 points in 220 games, good for .81 points per game. Holmes individually was not the 6th best player in history, but his value to the team and his winning habits launch him into the elite. Player Progression: Jarome Iginla 5. Mike Honcho To kick off the top 5, we find out who the top goaltender is, but first we need to look at the 2nd best. Mike Honcho is ranked 5th in SHL history for his absolute dominance in the blue paint. He won so many awards its incredible. Honcho is a 2 time Challenger cup champion, he won the Vezina a record 3 times in a row, he won a Conn Smyth in his first cup win, and he won a Williams Jennings trophy as well. Honcho was the tender for the Comets during their dynasty days, and was part of the change as well, when he moved to Toronto. In Toronto he lead them to the playoffs twice in a row, winning them a president’s trophy while doing so. Player Comparison: Patrick Roy 4. Fernando Garcia Now it’s time for the SHL’s top goaltender in history, Fernando Garcia. He’s ranked 4th all time due to his amazing career filled with wins. Fernando Garcia is the SHL’s leading goaltender when counting wins, he’s won a total of 196 games in just 302 games. Garcia has won 2 challenger cups with his West Kendall Platoon, he also won 2 Vezina’s, a record 4 Jennings, and even a Conn Smyth. Fernando Garcia moved for a season with the Manhattan Rage, but after teh organisation decided to re-build he moved back to West Kendall, where he has announced to retire at the end of the season. Player Comparison: Martin Brodeur 3. Scott Stevens Scott Stevens is this list’s top defenseman. He has been known around the league since the very beginning to be a huge force on the blue line. He can defend, and play offense and boy can he hit! Stevens has been nominated for the Norris many times, but has fallen short often, he’s only got one under his belt along with his Challenge Cup. Scott Stevens may not be as decorated as the young Erik Chisling, but his veteran presence and length in the game has put him ahead of all the other defensemen, and all but 2 SHL players. Player Comparison: Scott Stevens 2. Jay McDonald Jay McDonald was one short of being the leagues greatest player in its entire history! Although falling 2nd on the list is nothing to be disappointed about! McDonald is the 2nd best player, 2nd best forward but the best winger ever to play the game. McDonald has a tie for the league most cups, with 3 which he won in his rookie season with the Jets and 2 more with the Comets. McDonald has won the scoring title once, and the goal scoring title 3 times, along with a playoff MVP, but somehow never a season MVP! McDonald scored 324 points in 383 games good for .84 points per game. McDonald remains on the Comets roster today, and is still a force to be reckoned with! Player Comparison: Jaromir Jagr 1. Ron Mexico The greatest player in SHL history, who’s been playing since the league’s first day and is still playing in a top line center role today, Ron Mexico! Ron Mexico has had and continues to have an amazing career. Mexico has scored 332 points in his career which is the most ever and he did it in 364 games, good for .91 points per game which is 3rd in SHL history behind Abdalla and Karpotsov. He has won 2 challenge cups with the Winnipeg Jets which he has played his entire career with, he won 3 MVP titles (a record), 2 Khan trophys (a record), 3 times he was the leading scorer of the league (a record), twice leading goal scorer of the league, and now he wins the honour of being the greatest player in SHL history! Player Comparison: Sidney Crosby Thanks to everyone who kept up with these articles and thanks for all the great feedback, it makes writting all of these much easier! Congrats to Ron Mexico, and the 99 others who made the list, and good luck to all you youngsters who didn't make it and are hoping to crack it soon! I end this with the top 3 rankings of different stats and the top 100 complete list! Goodnight!
