S31 Championship Week
#1

It's finals week! And what does that mean? It means time for sick TPE opportunities.

S32 DRAFTEES MAY NOT PARTICIPATE IN S31 PTs. If you were signed as a FA after the SMJHL trade deadline, you are a S32 Draftee and are not eligible to earn TPE for this task.

Here's how this works: there are five tasks, each of which is worth 1 capped for completion, and up to 2 uncapped for putting in a little effort, for a total possible TPE payout of 5 capped and 10 uncapped. You can complete them in any order and do as few or as many as you would like. Please put all your tasks in one post and edit to add on as you go.

To complete all 5 tasks, you'll have to do a mixture of written and graphics work. Don't worry, we won't grade too harshly as long as you put in some effort Smile

Task 1: Rank the other teams in your conference in the order of who you would most want to face in Round 1 to least want to face (regardless of who you actually faced). Explain why.
Must include: 200 words.

Task 2: Create a game-day program cover for any playoff game.

Task 3: Create a Top 5 list of something to do with the playoffs (eg. top 5 weirdest things that have been poured into the Four Star Cup after a win, top 5 hilarious tweets during a certain game, top 5 goals your player scored, top 5 mascots you wish the two finals teams had instead of the current mascots, etc.)

Task 4: Your team has a fan-appreciation night during playoffs. Either write about it or make a graphic of whatever the team is giving away that night.
Must include: 150 words for the written, team logo for the graphic.

Task 5: For finals, compare how each of the teams did at home vs away in the regular season and in playoffs so far. Will home ice advantage be what gives the winning team an edge, or will it not matter?
Must include: 150 words.

DEADLINE FOR ALL TASKS: 5 full days after the final PBP is complete. November 30, 11:59 PM EST

As always, SMJHL rookies only. Claims will go in the claim thread, PT cap is 30, remain in your seat until a stoppage in play, etc.

Task 1

RANKINGS:

1) Prince George Firebirds - Our Vancouver Whalers team had a winning record against the Firebirds, who had a difficult time both scoring goals and preventing them. The Whalers outscored the Firebirds by almost 0.8 goals per game over the regular season over the entire 50 game schedule. Head-to-Head, Vancouver outscored Prince George 25 to 16 in the eight game regular season. Although the actual win loss record was tighter than the goal differential would indicate, I think this would have been the best match up.

2) Colorado Mammoths - The Mammoths won the season series against us and outscored us 17 to 12 over the seven regular season contests. Still, these were such low scoring games that either team could have won any of them.

3) Kelowna Knights - The Knights were the most dominant team in the SHL in both goals for and goal differential. The season series was close and the total score was Kelowna 30 Vancouver 24 for the whole season. We have a great power play in Vancouver, but against the championship caliber Knights, we'd be hard pressed to advance.

Task 2 Probably won't do.

Task 3

Top Five Taro Tsujimoto Career Playoff Moments:

5. With the Vancouver Whalers trailing the Colorado Mammoths three games to one in their first round series, Tsujimoto gets the primary assist on Dusty Cox’s first goal of the S31 playoffs. The goal proves to be the game winner in a 2-0 game.

4. In the decisive seventh game of the first round series between the Vancouver Whalers and the Colorado Mammoths, Taro finds chemistry with the newly acquired free agent Harper Wright. The pair go off with both of them combining on the first three Vancouver goals to keep the Whalers alive. Corey Bearss finishes the job with the last two goals and the Whalers advance.

3. In game one of the series with Kelowna in S31, Taro scores a goal at 4:18 of the first period and is a plus 2 in a game the Whalers win 3-2 in overtime. Tsujimoto is named the game’s first star.

2. It’s game seven of the S30 Four Star Cup Finals and the diminutive Japanese forward slips the puck to Kip O’Callahan for the game tying goal… They move into the neutral zone on the stick of Taro Tsujimoto, but he turns it over!!! He passes to Kip before he crosses the blue line! KIP SHOOOTS!!!!!!!!! He Scoorrrrres!!!!!!!

1. Later in that same game seven, Taro assists on the Halifax Raider’s Four Star Cup winning goal… Tyrone Savage picks it up ONLY TO TURN IT OVER TO Taro Tsujimoto… THE TINY JAPANESE MAGICIAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!... VICTOR LINDSTROM!!!!!!!...SHOOTS!!!!!!...Tsujimoto now with it takes a shot of his own!!!...It’s not strong enough Ben Waters fought it off. .. Looks like this game might go the distance if Waters keeps it up… HOLY SHIT TOIVO KOSONEN JUST LEVELED SELICH… Cleo Green - he doesn’t even fucking play nobody knows the guy!!!... He trips behind the Prince George goal and takes a moment to get up and dust himself off…. The puck is right in front of him and he’ll center it for Tsujimoto BUT WAIT!!!!... IT BOUNCED OFF JOHNNY POLLAK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...[and into the net]… And the Raiders go up by one with just minutes left my good golly!!!!!!

Task4

Fans of the Vancouver Whalers have an obsession for their hockey team. It’s not unlike the obsession a certain whaling captain had for a certain white whale. We’re not suggesting that we’ll be giving away free copies of Moby Dick or even Led Zeppelin’s Song Remains the Same. Yet, we needed to come up with a whaling themed giveaway.

Whaling is banned in most of the civilized world, so we won’t be giving away chances to harpoon a whale. Rather, we’re giving away the chance to see the majestic beasts in the wild from a close but safe distance. Selected patrons will receive a complementary tour from Vancouver Whale Watch. These tours are 3 to 5 hour whale watching tours starting in the picturesque fishing village of Steveston and include spectacular view of the San Juan Islands. Wildlife often seen on these tours includes killer whales, porpoises, humpback whales, sea lions, seals and bald eagles.

Vancouver Whale Watch The Official Whale Watching Tour of the Vancouver Whalers

Task 5

The Halifax Raiders won the six game regular season series by virtue of their two shootout wins. The other four games were split evenly and the score through all six games was Halifax 22 – Kelowna 20. The regular season match up showed no difference at all between home and away contests. Halifax had identical one win, one loss and one shootout victory records home and away from Scotiabank Center.

In the S31 playoffs, the Halifax Raiders again had identical home and road records in their series with the Detroit Falcons. Against the St. Louis Scarecrows, the Raiders were as dominant on the road as they were at home in a four game sweep of the Scarecrows. Kelowna also swept their first round series, so there can be no evidence of home ice advantage gained from that. Finally, the second round matchup between the Knights and the Whalers was a come from behind seven game series. Looking at the goals for statistics, the Knights had the slight edge both home and away. I’m left with the impression that the Knights were actually the slightly better team. I conclude that the home ice advantage is “myth busted” at least where the SMJHL is concerned.

COMPLETE

Task One:

Rankings:
1) Pringe George Firebirds
2 ) Vancouver Whalers
3) Colorado Mammoths.

I would most like to face the Prince George Firebirds in the first round since the Firebirds are not a very good team right. They are weak defensively, so the goals would just keep coming for us.... getting the puck past Waters is pretty easy honestly.
Offensivly isn't much of a worry for us either, they do not have many notable offensive players, at the same time with such a weak offensive core, finding a way through Jay between the pipes, and Starosta and Hohenberg protecting the net would be extremly difficult for such a weak offensive squad like Prince George.

I chose the Mammoths as the team that I would least want to face in Round One, but it was close between the Whalers and Mammoths. Vancouver Whalers are probably the better team offensivly... but with Jay in the back of the net, and Hohenberg on the blue line along with Starosta, the Whalers scoring abilities aren't much to worry about. Defensivly and between the pipes, I think the Mammoths are the superior team, and I am genuinely scared of the Mammoths back end. They have a fantastic defensive core with 4 300 TPE guys on the blue line, and in net, they have Dominic Hasek... I mean Rudnikova who is absolutely insane in net. Getting the puck home with that crew infront would be quite the task.

Task 2:

Task 3:

Top 5 things to do with victory maple syrup.

1) Poor it on your teammates
2) Poor it on waffles
3) Poor it on the team you beats logo (cause you demolished them and ate them)
4) Poor it in the Challenge Cup
5) Poor it on pancakes

Task 4

Task 5:

Here we are at the four star cup finals, where two teams that played hard during the season and the playoffs, at home and in the opponents territory, will be facing off in the finals... the Halifax Raiders and the Kelowna Knights. Will home town advantage be the story of this playoffs?

Well, Halifax this held a 15-10 record at home, and a 15-10 record AWAY as well! Meaning that they had the exact same record both at home and away. What this suggests is that the Raiders are consistent, weather it be them playing at home, or them playing away. Home ice advantage doesn't play much of an advantage for them, but at the same time playing in the opponents back yard doesn't hurt their play.

The Kelowna Knights on the other hand had a 14-11 record at home, and a 16-9 away, meaning that the Knights played slightly better away then at home, but nothing too much.

Taking these stats into account, I don't think home town advantage will mean much this series, this series should be completely based on who plays better.

Task 1: Rank the other teams in your conference in the order of who you would most want to face in Round 1 to least want to face (regardless of who you actually faced). Explain why.

I'd most like to play the Detroit Falcons in the playoffs among the other teams in our conference. While they did advance farther than Montreal, and they did have a better regular season record than the Militia, the Crows actually won the season series against Detroit. We had three wins, three losses, and one shootout win over the Falcons, with 20 goals for, and 16 goals against. Furthermore, beating your rival in the playoffs is a big moment that any player would want. I'd personally like to have more games against a team that has a lot of players in my draft class.

Montreal is the team I'd want to play second-most, though you could make a decent case that we shouldn't want anything to do with them this year. It was a rough go of it against the Militia in the regular season, as we won one game, lost four, won a shootout, and lost a shootout. We only scored 15 goals versus 22 against in the season series, and they sure looked like they had Detroit put away before they suddenly couldn't beat a pretty weak backup goalie. They don't have much in the way of SHL prospects in this draft class that are too prominent, but this team had our number all year. I felt like they would go on a run in the playoffs.

Halifax is obviously the team I would like to face the least, and that's not even because they swept us. The Raiders look like the best team in the SMJHL going into the finals (though the Knights would probably take issue with that assessment) and have a lot of top talent including last year's no. 1 overall pick, Pietra Volkova. We actually beat them twice in the regular season, but lost six times. We only mustered 10 goals in those eight games and gave up 25, so I would say that we were lucky to actually win a couple. I must have felt like being a contrarian when I made my playoff bracket (and predicted a shock seven-game upset) because we got run over. I'm excited to see if they can seal the deal in the finals.

Task 4: Your team has a fan-appreciation night during playoffs. Either write about it or make a graphic of whatever the team is giving away that night.

Oh, Free Beer Night. The Crows had struggled all year to score goals and after going on the road and scoring 1 goal in two games while giving up 7 to start the playoffs, declining attendance at the arena near the end of the season spooked management. And, with large stocks of beer needing to be gotten rid of, the marketing and promotions department figured the best way to solve two problems at once was to have Free Beer Night, with a caveat: The beer was free until the Crows scored their first goal of the game. You have to imagine they figured at worst the Crows would find a goal in the third period and you'd have drunk, rowdy fans providing a playoff atmosphere, or even better a goal right at the end of the first for the Crows would cheer up a crowd probably already into their cups. What they didn't know is that Game 3 would turn out to be the most frustrating playoff loss in recent history for the snakebitten St. Louis players: Game Link

In a somewhat disturbing night of frustration, the Crows managed to outshoot the Raiders 31-10 but lose in overtime, 1-0. The good news was, the arena was packed, and the beer was offloaded. The bad news was, the promotion never ended, and the entire arena was essentially a drunk tank, with multiple stoppages in play for fan interference and quite a few fights in the stands. The crowd appeared to be taking drinks everytime the Crows shot the puck, and on a 31 SOG night without a goal, the beer was guzzled rapidly. By the time of the third period, stands were running out of booze and half the crowd was in the concourse searching for a stand with remaining libations. Inside, meanwhile, it was a frat house kegger with a game of hockey going on in the background.

After the Crows finally gave up an overtime winner on the Raiders tenth shot of the game (St. Louis goaltender Kyle Wahlgren is said to have thrown his stick into the crowd in a fit of rage, knocking out a group of four who all tried to catch the stick- their motor skills had long since deteriorated), the still lively mob of drunkards filed out onto the streets where anyone attempting to get into their cars and drive were promptly arrested by the St. Louis Police. Apparently, they set a new record for DUI violations that night.

Task 5: For finals, compare how each of the teams did at home vs away in the regular season and in playoffs so far. Will home ice advantage be what gives the winning team an edge, or will it not matter?

During the regular season, the Halifax Raiders held a slight edge over Kelowna in terms of home performance. In 25 home games, the Raiders went 13-7 in regulation, 1-1 in overtime games, and 1-2 in shootouts, for a total home record of 15-7-3. That's good for 33 points of a possible 50. The Raiders scored 73 goals at home versus 56 against.

The Knights on the other hand went 10-7 in regulation, 2-0 in overtime games, and 2-4 in shootouts, for a total home record of 14-7-4 in 25 games, or 32 points of a possible 50 points. They scored 83 goals on home ice while surrendering 73.

So, while the teams are reasonably even in home ice performance Kelowna didn't prevent goals at home as well as Halifax did (the overall season goal prevention for the two teams is practically even, with Halifax surrendering one less goal overall than the Knights but scoring six fewer). The road records tell a more interesting story:

Kelowna had a league-best 15 regulation wins on the road. In 25 road games, the Knights went 15-6 in regulation, 0-1 in overtime games, and 1-2 in shootouts, for a total record of 16-6-3. That's good for 35 points out of a possible 50, which is actually better than their home performance. Furthermore, they scored 76 goals, but what's the most impressive is that they only allowed 49- that's 15 fewer than any other team.

The Raiders were probably the second-best team on the road in the league but I think the gap there is noticeable. The Raiders in 25 road games went 13-9 in regulation, 1-0 in overtime games, and 1-1 in shootouts for a total record of 15-9-1. That got them 31 points out of a possible 50, which isn't that much worse than Kelowna, but the goal differential cements that Kelowna is probably the superior road team. Halifax scored 80 goals on the road, the best in the league, but gave up 65. Obviously a +15 goal differential is not something to scoff at, but compared to the Knights mark of +27 you can see a difference in results. Both teams have made it through two playoff series and each swept their first round series, so the sample size on their playoff home/road splits is comparable, if not so large.

In the playoffs, the Knights and the Raiders are very, very similar. Halifax has played 10 games, and Kelowna 11. Both teams are 4-1 on the road. At home, Kelowna is 4-2 and Halifax 4-1. Halifax and Kelowna's regular season comparions are likely more relevant to their actual relative strength at home and away.

Task 1/5:

1. Montreal Militia - The team I would most like to face is the same team we embarrassed these playoffs- the Militia. Aside from reverse sweeping them and also winning the regular season series, they have a captain that can not stay out of trouble off the ice and that effects the whole team. Falcons have a good rivalry going on with Montreal but the fans in Detroit wouldn't be too worried about our next match up.

2. St. Louis Scarecrow - They are a bad defensive team and I feel like we have a good chance of beating them because of our depth on offense. It can be argued that the we are just as bad if not worse on defense, but the situation in Detroit is more about goaltending. The Scarecrows also won the least games this season and got cleanly swept by the Halifax Raiders in the playoffs, so they seem like they need some work before the start of next playoffs.

3. Halifax Raiders -
Probably the most skilled team in the juniors right now and a respectable opponent, the Halifax Raiders would have to be a team I would only want to face in the later rounds when my team already has some momentum going. I would not want to face them in the first round because of their experienced players and i would rather them get eliminated before we get to play them at all.

Task 2/5:

Top 5 things Nova does before playoff games-

5. Meditation - The night before gameday Nova likes to meditate and play hockey in his head before he falls asleep. He says it keeps his awareness sharp and creative, and he also does it before playoff games in the lockerroom for 10-15 minutes sometimes.

4. Early practice sesh - Nova wakes up in the morning of playoff gamedays to release some sweat and toxins and get his blood pumpin before game time. Stickhandling and endurance is his emphasis, while breakfast comes after his warm up routine.

3. Pregame bake sesh - A lil herb does not hurt anyone.. before gametime Nova likes to take a couple hits from the vap to help him get focused. Hitting it too many times will slow him down but one or two hits of that chronic will give him that extra kick to his morale.

2. Examining game tapes - To be prepared and learning from mistakes is key to success. Nova reviews his defensive positioning and performances before playoff games through tapes of his previous games. He also watches the best players in the league and takes notes from them to help him improve his game when the stakes are high.

1. Practice shootout with Jeremy Anderson - J. Anderson was fairly reliable last playoffs where he had a decent run with his team before getting outmatched by the Raiders. Everyone knows he's not the best goalie and Nova is not the best forward on the Falcons but according to Nova- that was their favorite thing to do in the practice sessions before gametime. He claims this is what kept Anderson warm between games as they would have these session religiously in playoff times.

Task 3/5:

Whatever the home and away record are for both teams, I don't think it should matter in the finals because they both have very skilled players that can go off at any given time. Another reason why it should not matter is both teams have very similar record, with the Raiders going 15-10 at home AND on the road while the Knights were 14-11 at home and 16-9 on the road. Knights have been a good away team and kept it up in the post season with a 4-1 record on the road but the Raiders matched it and both teams also have an almost identical record on the road too- with the Raiders being 4-1 and the Knights 4-2. Analyzing these stats, it is hard to tell what will happen in an intense 7 game series, especially with an extremely random sim engine but may the better team win.

Task 4/5:
Fan appreciation night! Everyone who attends the game gets a free box of small pizza with 3 custom toppings and soft drinks! All our Falcons fans know it has been kind of frustrating to watch the their team go .500 in the regular season and after reverse sweeping the Montreal Militia in the first round of playoffs- we want to give thanks to our loyal fans who stuck to the team and believed in the system by giving away one free pizza box per person! No not one box per family.. one box PER PERSON. So come and join us next home game and come early and hungry so you can get your grub on at game time! The second part of our fan appreciation night is after the game.. we are giving away bobbleheads of any Falcons player of your choice and authentic Falcons snap back hats. Last but not least; autographs and pictures with our beloved right winger and future SHLer, TERRANCE NOVA! So make sure you come to this game because it will be a memorable night!

Task 1: As a Prince George Firebirds player the team that i would want to face the most in the first play-off round would be Colorado Mammoths. The reason is simple - I believe that we have the best chance against them to get to round two as they, the same as Prince George Firebirds are not the strongest team and would be a good fit to us strength wise. Next on the list would be Kelowna Knights. Even the team is really strong and it shows on the regular season standings as they ended the season as the number one team in the conference, I still believe that we could beat them. And the last but not least would be the Vancouver Whalers. This team is full of talent and good players that are more than serious contenders to this seasons championship title. I knew that they will be hard team to beat at the beginning of the season and nothing has changed since then. Who ever the Prince George Firebirds will face in the first round of playoffs, I know that me and my teammates will fight hard in every game to repeat the last years scenario, but this time with happy ending!

<div align="center">===============</div>

Task 3: As the regular season ended and all the teams were preparing for the playoffs, some fans were preparing for it as well. Here are the TOP5 list of the craziest fanmail that Prince George Firebirds received right before the playoffs.

5. Melted ice - A fan that was not too happy with Ben Waters performance during the regular season decided to send him a message and cheer him up by delivering a pack of ice to the Prince George Firebirds office with a note "Don't melt Waters, stay hard!"

4. S31 Champion Tattoo - A devoted fan sent Prince George Firebirds team a picture with a tattoo that was recently made and it said "S31 SMJHL Champions - Prince George Firebirds". True believer!

3. Piss in the bottle - Another angry fan of Prince George Firebirds sent the team a bottle of his own piss with a note saying "Don't take piss at me and win the f-ing trophy!"

2. A fans teeth - Some fan sent the team package with three removed teeth. The package included a note saying "I removed one teeth for each of the teams you gonna win for the championship!"

1. Burned pigeon! - Often Prince George Firebirds are also called Fire Pigeons and based on that a fan sent a box that had a burned pigeon inside and a A4 paper with a meme parody saying "This is Tim, Tim burned, Don't be like Tim!"

<div align="center">===============</div>

Task 4:
<div align="center">[Image: fanevent.jpg]</div>
<div align="center">===============</div>

Task 5:
The finals are here and the two teams fighting for the challenge cup are known to all of us. No surprise that these two teams are meeting each other in the finals as Halifax Raiders is a team with exceptional talent on their rosters and of course the last seasons champions. On the other side Kelowna Knights who were predicted to be the main contenders for the cup last season but did not make it to the finals.

Both teams had good regular season by finishing as the number one teams on their conferences. Halifax Raiders with 64 points on the eastern conference and Kelowna Knights with 67 points on the western conference. Overall really close performence between both teams during the regular season but how did both teams compare by where they play? Is being home and playing in front of the home crowd gives the teams that extra energy they need or they feel pressured? Does the travelling to another city drains the players or does not matter? Let's compare and try to see is there any advantages or disadvantages when playing home or away that could influence the finals.

Halifax raiders finished their regular season with even statistics on home and away games. Out of 25 home games, Halifax, managed to win 15 and lose 10. The same numbers when they were away 15 wins and 10 loses. Even if we break down the wins in regulation wins then Raiders have been really consistent and split the wins to 13 home wins and 13 away wins.

Now lets take a look at Kelowna statistics after the regular season. Kelowna did get better results when on the road as they got 16 wins and only 9 loses when being away from home, while on the home ice they won 14 times and lost 11. If we break down the statistics into deeper analysis then we can see that Kelowna performs much better on away games as all 16 wins were in regulation time while out of 14 home games only 10 were in regulation.

Now if we compare how did both teams did between each other then in total they played 6 games, 3 home and 3 away. Looking at statistics even there it is almost split into a tie as both teams got 1win, 1loss home and away but Raiders were little bit more successful as from both shootout games they took both wins.

Comparing both team performance in general we can agree that they are equal in all the aspects as they almost had identical home, away win and loss statistics, where Kelowna had one more win away and one more loss home than Halifax did. Hopefully we will see a fantastic final between these two teams and if any of these stats are indicator, we might see a 7 game final with Raiders having a little advantage over Kelowna if we just base it on the statistics we just looked at.

Task 3: Top 5 amazing passes by Kristy O'Sullivan that lead to nothing

After a disappointing season based on statistics, many experts have come out saying that in reality, Kristy O'Sullivan played fantastically, but it was her team-mates who repeatedly messed up amazing passes and could not use them correctly. Here is a look at the top 5 times that happened:

Number 5: After an amazing solo, dancing around four opposing players, Kristy O'Sullivan placed a perfect pass right on the stick of Eduard Selich, but he saw an old high-school friend of his in the stands, who still owed him some money, so he completely forgot about hockey for a moment and missed his chance.

Number 4: Kristy had stolen the puck from an opposing player, deep in their zone against the wall and saw a wide-open Joseph Riccardelli in front of the goal. Right in the moment when the pass was made, a fan had directed a laser pointer at his eyes though and so he did not see the puck and could not hit the net.

Number 3: Coming off the bench, O'Sullivan got a great pass by a team-mate and entered the zone, Trick Edwards with her, with only one opposing player to beat. O'Sullivan had faked a shot, but then passed in the perfect moment to her teammate, who sadly tripped right in that moment, because he was wearing skates with shoe laces and they had come loose.

Number 2: After a hard battle at the glass, O'Sullivan had broken free with the puck and saw Johnny Pollak wide open in front of the net. She looked down at the puck and got ready for a pass, but then Gangnam Style was played over the speakers and Pollak began doing the dance on the ice and missed the pass.

And finally...

Number 1: In the last moments of a game, O'Sullivan had the puck and was moving towards the opposing zone, where an empty net was waiting. Selflessly she passed over to Ernesto Castro who had a wide open shot at the empty net in front of him. Sadly, he had forgotten his stick on the bench and the chance was gone.

Task 4: Fan-Appreciation night for the Firebirds!

Dear fans,

Make sure to come to our fan-appreciation night in the playoffs! We have an incredible offer for you. We will be giving away one Eduard Selich. You read that right. We are not talking about bobble-head figure, we are going to give away the man, the myth, the legend, Eduard Selich, for one night only!

Any lady coming to the game will be entered automatically into a lottery with the chance to spend one night with the elusive star of the Firebirds. And don't worry, he isn't as fast in the bedroom as he is on the ice !

But fellas, don't worry, you are not excluded either. If you come to the information desk in section C, you may also register to enter into the lottery and if you are lucky, you may also be able to spend a night with the amazing skater.

The team I would most like to face would easily be the Prince George Firebirds. Simply put, the Firebirds had a trainwreck season. With just 44 points on the year, they finished a whopping 13 points behind 3rd place Colorado. Not only that, but they seemed to be lacking a bit in depth down the middle. Their #1 center was rookie Teodors Cukurs. Granted Cukurs was the rookie scoring leader, but still way below his competitors at the C1 spot. This ultimately did prove costly as we went on to dispose of them quickly for real with a 4 game sweep in the 1st round.

2. Colorado Mammoths
Coming out of the draft, Colorado looked to have built a solid group, but a scandal surrounding rookie Oliver Lake rocked the league & seemed to derail the Mammoths' season just enough to keep them out of the title race.

3. Vancouver Whalers
Last but not least, our bitter rivals from BC, the Vancouver Whalers. They fought us hard all season long & even handed us a few crushing defeats. While they pushed our squad to its very limit, they were never able to break us & we edged them out as well.

Task 1

1. St. Louis Scarecrows
The team I would most want to face in the first round would be the St.Louis Scarecrows. The Scarecrows finished last in the conference 7 points behind the 3rd place Montreal Militia and had the worst goal differential in the league with -33. Additionally, they finished the regular season with the league’s worst penalty kill. The team also doesn’t have great depth and only had two players who finished the season with more than 10 goals.

2. Montreal Militia
The Montreal Militia finished 3rd in the Eastern Conference and would be the 2nd team I would want to face. The Militia finished the season with 5 straight losses and looked shaky heading into the playoffs. While the Scarecrows had the worst penalty kill, the Militia have the worst power play in the league only capitalizing on 14% of their chances. Additionally several members of the team were quite outspoken again the Falcons and a good rivalry makes a great playoff series!

3. Halifax Raiders
The Halifax Raiders are the team I would hate to face. The Raiders dominated the Eastern conference winning the title by a whopping 14 points. The Raiders are arguably the deepest team in the league and have a variety of superstars that include Laing, Reflieux, and Kosonen. They advanced to the finals to no one’s surprise and will look to defend their championship.

Task 3

Top 5 Reasons why the Playoffs are Bullshit

5. Goalies with low TPE should never play better than goalies with high TPE.

4. Playoff Series should be a best of 5 and not a best of 7.

3. Players who are child ********* should not be allowed to play in the SMJHL.

2. The better team should always win.

1. My team didn't win.

Task 4

Task 5

After two hard fought playoff rounds, it is always interesting to look at whether home ice could be a deciding factor in the Four Star cup finals. Let’s compare how both teams did at home and on the road.

The Halifax Raiders had a 15-10 record at home and a 15-10 record on the road. After taking into account shootout and overtime wins and losses, the team played exactly the same at home and on the road! Their consistency is quite remarkable and home ice doesn’t seem to play any advantage for them.

How about the Kelowna Knights? They finished 14-11 at home and 16- 9 on the road. Surprisingly they did slightly better on the road than at home but not by a significant amount.

Thus it is unlikely that home ice will play a factor in deciding this year’s Four Star Cup Champion. However, you never know when it comes to the playoffs. One team might kick it to gear at home or dominate on the road. Or the sim might just be bullshit and Montreal might end up winning.

Task 1

1. ST. Louis Scarecrow: I would love to play the Scarecrow first because of their team record to begin with, they were the worst team in the SMJHL this season with 42 points. They just couldn’t get anything done during the season, like come on who are they going to Scare? They are one of the worst defensive teams and I feel like with our depth on offense we can outscore them. I mean we are matched up nicely until the goalies come around where they have no chance.

2. Montreal Militia: This is the team we are rivals with, we came back from 3-0 to beat them in the playoffs and they thought we were lucky enough to beat them. I want to prove them wrong, we won the season series as well, so we always have a chance. They have a captain who loves to run his mouth but he is so easy to chirp. They get their emotion too caught up to themselves and that’s why they lose so many games.

3. Halifax Raiders: This team is the team to beat right now, there is no doubt about that. No one wants to play them because they are experienced, tough and skillful but at the same time Detroit won’t back down if given the chance against them. We know we are out-matched but the underdog story is the best story and I believe we can do it.

Task 2

Top 5 Things to Do During the Playoffs

1. Basketball: On our off-days I love to go on the court and just shoot some hoops if I want too. I always loved basketball, so this was something I love to do when my game isn’t going the right way. It calms me down.

2. Baking: No I don’t cook, I smoke weed though. SMJHL doesn’t test on all players and since I’m white as fuck they won’t mind me smoking that weed on the daily before the games. A nice lil herb before the game doesn’t hurt anyone plus I play better when I smoke a backwood to the face.

3. Movies: I love to watch movies to get motivated actually, GodFather, Batman series are my favorites to get through the playoffs because they show a lot of message into that series that you instantly get motivated out of it.

4. Girls: You already know where this is coming from, it’s very common for an athlete to have lots of girls over just for fun and this is what I do. I need to stay out of it but Amber Rose has a nice head.

5. Learning: Always learning even when you’re not playing, that’s always the key to winning.

Task 4

Since there is Drake night in Toronto for the Toronto Raptors whoever comes to the next game gets a free custom made Eminem inspired Detroit Falcon shirt with his new album coming out as well. Eminem has always been there for the city of Detroit and since they made the playoffs this season he wanted to do something in the second round to get them hyped up after they were down in the series against Halifax. Not a lot of celebrities go out there and show that they appreciate their city like this. This is something not a lot of them do but Eminem thought why not since he’s in town for the game and he just did it for the joy.

“I love this city, they have brought a lot of joy into my heart these years I have been here. Growing up, making music they always supported me and I want to give back to them in a way. So let’s go Detroit!” said Eminem.

Task 5

After a hard fought regular season and playoffs, both teams who gave their all come into the finals. The first thing we would have to do is compare how they are going to do on the road and at home. Halifax is 15-10 at home and 15-10 on the road, there is no difference between those two. Halifax will be ready for the fight at home or on the road. They are an experienced team and they will fight through anything which we saw last season as well. For the Knights, they are 14-11 at home and 16-9 on the road. They are doing slightly better on the road than at home. It’s not a huge difference but they already have home ice advantage in this series, which I don’t know will pay off for them since they don’t have the best record at home for a team who had 67 points. I think it’s too close to call as of right now, but I feel like the Raiders will take this one and it won’t matter.

Task 1:

Vancouver - The big city where it's fun to be and the parties are always going. You get to enjoy everything British Columbia has to offer and the most important thing is to see the Dave Smith Memorial for being the first captain to ever bring the Four Star Cup to Vancouver. After the Smith Memorial you can visit the Whaler Hall of Fame which has some great friends of mine in and that would be a great vacation while you battle a tough team.

Kelowna - My enemy. It's quite simple why you want to engage Kelowna in the first round is that is in attempts to knock out their dreams of a Four Star Cup. Kelowna is that town where there isn't much to do like Prince George but actually has a successful hockey team that is rivaled by many.

Prince George - this team is a real unknown that not many people even remember about. It's a good thing the team relocated them from Regina as that was a joke. You're somewhere in BC and no one cares about that. It's a good thing we brought something across the border. Plus I heard the booze flows well. It must explain why the Firebirds aren't really that great. Drunk all the time.

Task 3: Top 5 list of things to do in Colorado for those who don't like to get high

5. Skiing - Colorado is known for it's great slopes so why not give skiing a try
4 - visit the museums, art galleries and etc - who doesn't want to learn1
3 - enjoy a Denver nugget game
2 - Theme Parks - even Colorado has them!
1 - seriously... it's Colorado it's boring as fuck. Get High

Task 4:

As you all know Colorado has legalized the good stuff. So, with the bad play the fans have seen from Center Alek Koivu this year the team has decided to provide the fans with a few joints to be able to handle the game. Under every chair on this special $100 per ticket night is a few joints and also a coupon for $10 order at the local dealers in town for the next game. If you are going to do it in Colorado.. do it big as the team believes. The team during fan appreciation night is trying to set a world record for how high we can get a stadium during one game. That is why this is an 18+ event as we cannot expose children to this kind of event. After the game we will be holding a mixer for all the fans that came to the game for a meet and greet with the players and for some dirty bingo after.

task 1
1. Montreal Militia., the Militia are the team the falcons had the best record against in the regular season and showed this dominance again in the playoffs easily reverse sweeping them after letting them have 3-0 lead to give them hope. I also personally always get a ton of points against MTL and it’s always fun to beat Kleslar and see him complain and throw one of his tantrums.

2. St louis Scarecrows, the regular season series between the scarecrows and falcons was very close but the scarecrows did end up finishing as one of the worst in the league and even though the regular season was close, after all the development of a young Detroit team I think we’d be able to beat them fairly easily.

3. Halifax Raiders, the defending champs crushed the falcons during the regular season and then beat us in the conference finals although the series was closer than I expected, they now have a chance to defend their title although it’s not looking good. The raiders and the knights are easily the top teams in the league way ahead of everyone else and I have tons of respect for the raiders as they have a great team.

task 5

In the regular season the Knight’s actually had a better road record than home record going 16-9 on the road and 14-11 at home when it comes to the series vs the raiders the series was in favor for the raiders 2-1 at home and on the road but with 1 win on the road and at home being in shootouts. For the raiders they had even records going 15-10 at home and 15-10 on the road. In the playoffs so far the Knights are 4-2 at home and 4-1 on the road while the raiders are 4-1 at home and on the road as both teams had easy first round sweeps and fairly closer 2nd rounds. So what do all these stats mean, basically nothing, the stats are extremely close and don’t really give either team a clear edge over the other but as always if it does go to a game 7 the home team should always be feeling good.
