“Good evening everyone and welcome to the SMJHL Season 31 Awards Show! I’m your host Zoone16! First and foremost I would like to thank you all for coming as well as thank the General Managers for submitting their votes! Additionally I would like to thank <a href='index.php?showuser=881' rel='nofollow' alt='profile link' class='user-tagged mgroup-13'>Muerto</a>, <a href='index.php?showuser=2' rel='nofollow' alt='profile link' class='user-tagged mgroup-9'>Maxy</a> and <a href='index.php?showuser=1157' rel='nofollow' alt='profile link' class='user-tagged mgroup-4'>Bojo</a> for making this awards show possible at all!
The Oriens Trophy is awarded to winner of the Eastern Conference Finals in the playoffs. Often considered a cursed trophy, few captains decide to lift it for fear of underperforming come the Cup Finals. The winners of the award, the beasts of the East:
Similarly, the Occasus Trophy is awarded to the winner of the Western Conference Finals in the playoffs. Like it’s Eastern Conference counterpart, it is also considered a “cursed†trophy and is usually presented without being touched by it’s recipients. The winners of the award, the best in the West:
The Four Star Cup is the ultimate prize teams strive for in the SMJHL. Battling it out for 50 regular season games and having to survive a grueling 3 rounds of playoffs series is no small feat. Named after the four founding teams in the League, this trophy is considered one the hardest pieces of hardware to acquire by many as a player doesn’t stay forever in the SMJHL. Ladies and gentlemen, your winners of the Season 31 Four Star Cup:
Our next set of awards, honor our points and goals scoring leaders for the regular seasonand the playoffs. Being at the top means being a leader within your own team and being able to be there and give that extra push when needed. These players have topped the charts in their respective categories and shown they have what it takes to become great SHL players in the future.
Named after its’ very first winner, the Jared Hanson Trophy is awarded annually to the Points Leader at the conclusion of the Regular Season. Our recipient this year finished the Regular Season with 18 Goals and 43 Assists for a total of 61 Points. Putting in a dominant performance from the blueline where she relegated her closest competition a full 7 points back, the winner this year is:
The Roberto Martucci Trophy rewards the top goal scorer in the league at the conclusion of the Regular Season. Some of the current stars and future Hall of Famers from the SHL have won this award when they were in the SMJHL at the dawn of their career. Our winner this year, put up a solid 26 goals in the nets and never let go of his grasp at the top of the goal scoring leaderboard as his pursuers started catching up in the very last games of the season, ladies and gentlemen, your Season 31 Roberto Martucci Trophy recipient:
Our third and last, non-voted individual award for the night is the Ronan O'Keefe Trophy, awarded to the Playoffs Points Leader at the end of the S31 Playoffs. This trophy is often considered as a heatbreaker of a trophy to award, as early playoff exits, in spite of a strong individual performance can be overshadowed by other players staying in the hunt for the Four Star Cup for longer. It was very much so the case this year where our recipient won it on the very last game played in the S31 playoffs by a single point! With a total of 17 points in 16 games, 3 Goals and 14 Assists, the winner of the Ronan O’Keefe Trophy is:
Our 3rd set of awards tonight are all voted by the General Managers of every team. As a reminder, no team could vote for their own players so the nominees and winners were all selected by every other team in the League. The nominees are all listed alphabetically (by first name) and in no other order. This year the voting was extremely close for most categories. We even had to do a recount to make sure it was correct for one of these awards! So without further ado lets hop right to it.
