After their defeat in Vancouver, the Raiders headed back to Halifax with the hope to turn the tides on the Whalers. They were back at home, in front of their fan, captain of the Scotiabank Center. But the tidal cycles is decided by gravity and nothing else.
The game started with fireworks for both team. Barely 2 minutes into the game, Trucker Grogan decided to have a dance with Brandon Gauthier, who chased Halifax goalkeeper two days ago. Winning the fight, Grogan gave a boost of energy to his teammate while he was sitting on the penalty box like Gauthier. The Raiders did not manage to use this energy to produce goals and instead, McCarthy found a way to be penalized for Hooking and Roughing in the following 7 minutes. The second penalty opened the door to the Whalers attack, led by Sophia Bennett. Bennett scored on the Power Play, putting the first dent on the until then perfect record of the Raiders. Rossi II found the end of the ned a few minutes later. Near the 15 minutes mark, Bennett proved to be the gravitational force of the game with a second goal
At the beginning of the second period, Bennett silenced the rink when she buried another goal in the first minute. A few of the Raiders fan and the Whalers fan present in Halifax threw their hats on the ice to emphasize the Right Wing hat trick. While the rink crew were cleaning up the ice, the fan watched their starting goaltender, Jordin FourFour Jr., skate back to the bench for a second time in two games. Enticer positioned himself in front of the net with almost 40 minutes to go. It was hard for the Raiders to adjust in the second period. Bernstein took a penalty for diving trying to draw a penalty on the Whalers. Fortunately the team was not punished by Vancouver. Instead, near the middle of the period, Lukas Müeller found a way to fool Murray’s attention and scored his first as a Raiders. Halifax had to hold their breath though as Hans Sørensen took a Holding penalty near the end of the period. The Penalty Kill unit hold the score 4-1 during that time.
The Raiders kept their momentum during the third period. The young center Yuri Boyka Jr. received a great pass from Trucker Grogan and pushed it pass Carrick Murrey. The Whalers started to become movemented after that goal, seeing the Raiders cash on their momentum. Odjick tried to distract Enticer and ended up in the box for Goalie Interference. The referees didnt like Kikkoman’s Roughing and gave him a two minutes. A bit after 10 minutes in the period, Cam Ouellette gave an opportunity on a golden plate to the Raiders after Cross-checking one of their player. Trucker Grogan managed to take it helping his team to have only a one goal deficit. Unfortunately, the Bennett effect proved to be too strong for the Raiders who, after seeing Marino took a late penalty for hooking weren’t able to come back. They were left at home by the Whalers riding a 3 defeats ship.
The unsung hero of the match for the Raiders was Trucker Grogan. The defenseman scored one goal and had a point on the two others. He landed 3 big hits, blocked 2 shots and won a fight. He stayed on the ice for a bit more than 21 minutes.
