It's no secret that many of the usual suspects many would find crossing their minds for a top fantasy pick, top players and the face of the franchise is changing. With many of the long time great players from the eras of S20-25 all beginning to dwindle a little with their regression setting in, the stage is set and starting to open for the "Next wave" of star players. So if you have been living under a rock, or just plain haven't been paying attention at all, lets me educate you on some of the players you need to be keeping you eyes on. Now I will state their is no goalies being directly covered because well, most of the ones who would make such a list already have the notice they deserve because they are already their teams starters. Timo Haas Gerogette Pel Jeff Kirkstone Kyle Wahlgren :admirals: Jason Aittkallio Their secrets are already out so there is no real reason to have to point those gems out. What we will be covering is essentially a 3 season range (S30-32) and the real prominent rising stars who might because a true household name sooner than later when people mention top performers, trophies and straight recognition Hamilton Steelhawks (S30) Ben Dover - 1358 TPE - OFF D - Hamilton Steelhawks ThatDamnMcJesus Notable Strengths - DF: 99 - SC:99 - ST: 90 - SK: 90 - EN: 90 - PH: 90 Weaknesses (80 or Below) - CK: 58 - A Defenseman who is now past the half way point of his non regression years, Dover has been an absolute staple on the Steelhawks blueline since he broke into the league. Not really much of a secret anymore, Dover is looking to carve a name for himself around the league when people think of top tier D men. Looking every bit as a franchise D man for the Steelhawks, it's safe to say this player will be a long standing member of the teams blue line, and although still has some rough years ahead, he can hopefully lead them to more positive times, and start to really shine as the team begins to build around him. One can only hope it will be before his talent is wasted. (S31) Ronnie Westbrook - 1007 TPE - PLY - Hamilton Steelhawks Gooney Notable Strengths - PA: 93 - SK: 87 - ST: 85 - FO: 85 - DF: 87 - PH: 85 Weaknesses (80 or Below) - CK: 40 - SC: 80 - EN: 80 - Not as crazy of TPE levels as some others on this list Westbrook should not be over looked in the slightest. He has a bit of an up and down ride so far for the Steelhawks but has still been a steady hand amongst all the chaos that has surrounded the team at times. Leading the charge on forward now, Westbrook will have to lead now and show those coming to the pro level what it takes to play at the SHL level and form the identity of the Steelhawks if they hope to become a coherent unit that will breed success in the future. Despite the less than ideal circumstances currently, Westbrook should have a solid career as he will be THE GUY for seasons to come. Manhattan Rage (S31) Ace Redding - 1280 TPE - PWF - Manhattan Rage grimreaper Notable Strengths - SK: 93 - EN: 90 - PH: 90 - PA: 86 - SC: 97 - DF: 90 Weaknesses (80 or Below) - FO: 71 - CK: 80 (but not really) Not really a 'secret' or a 'surprise' anymore, Redding broke out huge last season to firmly put his name on the the SHL radar. I don't think he really needs to extra 1-up here, but again in case you weren't paying attention last year....Redding is here. A power forward who can bring the offense and the physical play (something that seems to be dying in the SHL for forwards builds), he is a wrecking ball with little to stop him. Most likely many peoples top Fantasy picks, and one of the new wave players already 'here', Redding will be one of the 1st of this pack to make a big bang. Look for him to solidify himself as a Rage franchise player as long as he stays, and be one the first names off the tongue when you talk about the S31 class. (S32) Luke Atmey - 1126 TPE - Manhattan Rage Velevra Notable Strengths - SC: 99 - PA: 90 - PH: 92 - SK: 91 - DF: 90 Weaknesses (80 or Below) - CK: 48 - ST: 73 A player who I feel hasn't got nearly enough praise after the last season he had. Playing on a less than stellar Steelhawks squad Atmey was able to put up 56 pts (with 26 being goals) good for 1st on the team, and 12 points ahead of the next closest player. Now that he is on the high powered and offensive Rage? Well this season could be a nice one up front for Manhattan. A shoot first mentality might prove to be a bit of a mixed bag with the Rage sporting a few players with that mentality, but all signs still point to Atmey keeping pace with what he has been able to accomplish so far, and should start to really carve out a name for himself in S36. Minnesota Chiefs (S32) Terrance Nova - 1088 TPE - SNP - Minnesota Chiefs sarmo Notable Strengths - SC: 96 - SK: 85 - PH: 92 - DF: 89 - PA: 88 Weaknesses (80 or Below) - CK: 40 On a roster that still sports some top end talent, Nova is still looking rather lonely for the 'next wave' for the Chiefs. It's not to say they don't have any promising prospects, but with the gap between Nova's growth and the rest of the pack behind him, he will be the main man upfront moving forward. WIth LPF aging a bit, Nova will be expected to handle the kings share of the word load here soon. The chiefs still have time to help build around him, but the window and timing might be just a bit off. Regardless Nova will be the leading man in Minnesota for seasons to come, and most likely take over the reigns as their leading scorer sooner than many might think. The face of the franchise moving forward easily, he still will have to wait a bit for the likes of LPF - Garbanzo and Andersson before the title is his. New England Wolfpack (S31) Toivo Kosonen - 1174 TPE - OFF D - New England Wolfpack Toivo Notable Strengths - EN: 90 - PA: 88 - SK: 90 - DF: 95 - SC: 98 - PH: 90 Weaknesses (80 or Below) - ST: 78 - CK: 44 The heir apparent to Clayton, Kosonen has all the tools to lead the Wolfpack offensively from the back end. Probably the best supporting cast positionally, Kosonen will not be expected to be the direct leader anytime soon, but his potential should not be ignored. The only defenseman who is S31 or young on the roster, and almost 1200 TPE to boot has him looking very solid in the long term and when matched up with Landvik and Clayton, gives the Wolfpack a 3 headed monster on Defense that many teams could only wish for. The addition of Crutchfield makes their top 4 potentially tops in the league (Texas might have a word about that), and with an already stacked Wolfpack roster, they are poised to the favourites as we head into S36. Kosonen might have to wait another 3+ seasons to really be that #1 on the d line, but take notice now, so your not surprised later. Toronto North Stars (S31) Reed Laing - 1055 TPE - PWF - Toronto North Stars GroupMeIsKindOfOkay Notable Strengths - SK: 90 - SC: 94 - EN: 90 - PH: 90 - PA: 87 - DF: 87 Weaknesses (80 or Below) - CK: 80 (again, but not really) - ST:40 Most likely the biggest direct competition to Redding for the role of top upcoming Power forward, Laing is coming fresh off her first Challenge Cup win. Having the complete package of scoring and physical play, you might see this name taken earlier and earlier in all the fantasy draft, and the name pop up in the conversations about top forwards across the league. Surrounded by less than favourable talks at times, this forward has taken it all in stride and keeps showing many people why she is one of the top forwards progressing in the SHL. Time will tell how high those highs are, but currently the projection of Laing is looking solid. West Kendall Platoon (S31) Pietra Volkova - 1260 TPE - SNP - West Kendall Platoon Pris Notable Strengths - SC: 99 - SK: 90 - ST: 89 - EN: 86 - PH: 89 - PA: 85 - DF: 90 Weaknesses (80 or Below) - CK: 67 One of the few forwards to have above 60 checking, Volkova might start to really sneak up on many fantasy managers as a solid late round pick. Hitting for the next generation seems to be something lost in the masses with everyone wanting to snipe ched all day long, but "Goonkova" has never had a problem playing her game with that slight physical edge. The 1st overall pick of the S31 draft, she has seen her fair share of criticism and has had a rather slow start to her SHL career. With the conclusion of the S35 season she started to really shut some of the critics up. Putting up 36 points, and showing her ability to play a sound physical game without letting the PIM's get away from her, she has started to really make some strides. I feel like S36 will be her true coming out party as the West Kendall roster has really begun to develop and mesh finally. (S31) Alex Light - 1179 TPE - SNP - West Kendall Platoon Zoone16 Notable Strengths - SK: 91 - ST: 85 - PA: 88 - SC: 99 - EN: 89 - PH: 84 - DF: 90 Weaknesses (80 or Below) - CK: 49 The SMJHL scoring phenom enters S36 still looking for that break out season. Still yet to crack that 30 point mark something will have to give at some point here soon. Being shuffled around the line up last season trying to get him going couldn't get this player started and now really hitting his prime it's time to really start to cash in. West Kendall can only hope he can replicate what he did in Kelowna finally and this season is the time to do it. I don't expect and EXPLOSION of offense from Light, but this is the season he starts to truly make a name for himself and move up the list of names to notice and talk about across the league for top forwards in the SHL. Buffalo Stampede (S31) Ludwig Koch Schroder - 1394 TPE - OFF D - Buffalo Stampede @Myself Notable Strengths - SC: 99 - ST: 86 - SK: 88 - PA: 85 - EN: 90 - PH: 99 - DF: 99 Weaknesses (80 or Below) - CK: 48 The leader of the pack when it comes to TPE for defenseman in his class, and clutching to many of the stats to lead the pack (but just barely) LKS has all the tools to be an effective defenseman. Lacking a bit on the physical side he is not one to play the game to physically, but has very sound positioning and rarely gives the puck up. Posting x2 - 30 pt seasons already he is looking like the PP quarterback many teams look to have, mixed with his shot blocking ability, he is starting to look like an effective TWD with an offensive flair. S36 should be a statement season for the Defenseman as to how high he can really go. Will he be a solid 35 pt D man who can eat up top end minutes? Or will he put himself in the talks with the likes of Wollker, Garbanzo, Clayton, Nuck, etc. One thing is certain for this D man, he wants to be in the talks for the stevens sooner than later. With FA looming again for this D man, many are asking will he re sign and keep his spot as Buffalos #1 D man beside Metzler like many expect or legitimately test it? Being Catfished last time around many GM's are more than likely sceptical and don't expect a thing. (S31) Alexis Metzler - 1238 TPE - TWD D - Buffalo Stampede Avakael Notable Strengths - SK: 85 - ST: 88 - EN: 87 - PH: 90 - PA: 91 - SC: 81 - DF: 99 Weaknesses (80 or Below) - CK: 70 One of the true TWD of the this article, Metzler is looking like the type of piece many teams would love to have. Being a more physical D man than most is something that is attractive for teams looking for that perfect pair for their shoot 1st D men, and lucky for Buffalo they have the match for Metzler. Really making some MASSIVE strides this season, Metzler has already vaulted himself into the talks of AT LEAST top 15-20 D men league wide, and is starting to make some noise for himself. With the Buffalo team improving across the board Metzler will only get better and prove his worth more. Metzler arriving via trade, looks better and better when weighing that value now, and could easily surpass LKS as Buffalo true #1 D man. Mabye ultimately not putting up the Offensive numbers LKS is expected too, the sheer value Metzler offers might just easily out weigh that when it's all said and done (Think Vlasic's worth to San Jose).

Registered [title redacted] Calgary Dragons (S31) Joe Kurczewski - 1356 TPE - SNP - Calgary Dragons JKortesi81 Notable Strengths - EN: 86 - ST: 83 - SK: 99 - DF: 96 - SC: 99 - PA: 90 - PH: 90 Weaknesses (80 or Below) - CK: 60 Alone on the Island of immediate Dragons prospects sits Joe Kurczewski. On a team that still support a very deep and just overall great forwards corps, Kurczewski has a supporting cast that helps take some attention away from him, but does limit his overall influence on the ice. That should change moving forward though. With many of the Dragons greats starting to be eaten away by regression, Kurczewski will be leaned upon heavily by Calgary to lead the next wave of forwards for the team. Maybe still 2 seasons away from being the go to guy for the team, Joe will get there, and WILL be THE GUY for the team. A sniper by trade, he has started to round out his game a lot more evenly lately and will start to make a push sooner than later to prove his legacy to the team and the league as one of the primier talents in the SHL. Los Angeles Panthers (S31) Matthew Leetch - 1052 TPE - OFF D - Los Angeles Panthers NYRangers3061 Notable Strengths - SK: 84 - ST: 90 - EN: 85 - PH: 87 - PA: 85 - SC: 90 - DF: 90 Weaknesses (80 or Below) - CK: 62 Burried by the sheer depth of the Panthers D corps for the last 3-4 seasons, S36 should be the 1st true test for Leetch. With the departure of Crutchfield, and Leetch being the highest standing D man on the Panthers roster (who isn't a straight up hitting/ face puncher), Leetch will be leaned on heavily most likely to lead the panthers powerplay and looked at to eat up the big minutes for the club with the hardest assignments as well. Maybe not slated to absolutely tare it up this season, Leetchs overall value wil skyrocket this year as he transitions into becoming the #1 D man for the franchise and is looked to lead rather than follow going forward. Portland Admirals (S31) Geronimo Otto - 1159 TPE - PLY - Portland Admirals tweedledunn Notable Strengths - PH: 82 - DF: 90 - PA: 93 - SK: 88 - SC: 83 - EN: 87 - FO: 90 - ST: 90 Weaknesses (80 or Below) - CK: 40 Having a fairly solid career so far, this center man has been the man focus in Portland for a few seasons now and really shouldn't have snuck up on anyone. Going a different path than many of the other members of this list, Otto decided to focus mainly on the faceoff dot first before pumping everything into the offensive side of his game. Still putting up some decent numbers regardless of that many would feel he is ready to take over the 1st line center role this season, but alas with the retirement home the Admirals have been running the last 2 seasons, paired with the monster that is Lundberg still in Portland to man the 1st line, Otto might still be waiting a few seasons before really getting a shot. Despite the obstacles in front of him, one would be silly to not notice the work being put in by the player and the potential for him to anchor and help explode the offensive on the Admirals 2nd line. (S30) Kelly Rivet - 1330 TPE - TWF - Portland Admirals Snuffalupagus Notable Strengths - SK: 90 - ST: 90 - EN: 91 - PH: 90 - PA: 99 - DF: 99 Weaknesses (80 or Below) - CK: 74 - SC: 66 One of the few true 'grinders' across the league, Rivet has been quietly putting in work season in and season out. Maybe not the 1st choice on fantasy lists, or the conversation about top players across of the league due to the lack of his scoring touch, it still should not be discounted the great high level player he has started to become. Breaking 30 points last season, and really starting to find his hitting game, he may not WOW anyone with his offensive play, BUT he is the exact type of player you want in your top 6 opening room for your skill players and pressuring the other teams stars. A great defensive side of his game helps attribute to it all, and his value is maybe seen as less than it should be, because he has a great player here. (S32) Max Weber - 1162 TPE - TWD - Portland Admirals MWHazard Notable Strengths - PH: 90 - PA: 82 - SC: 92 - DF: 96 - SK: 90 - ST: 90 - EN: 90 Weaknesses (80 or Below) - CK: 40 The TPE monster that is Max Weber keeps chugging along and is arguably only 1-2 seasons away from being the clear cut #1 guy in Portland. A more offensively minded D man first, Weber should start to truly come into his own this season with him more than likely running the power play mixed with huge minutes more than likely on the top pairing, this will be his season to really start to cement his name in that talk of top 20 across the league at his position. Not a very physical player his fantasy value might wain a bit, but being close to maxed in defense, mixed with solid puck control, strength and endurance should lead him to help his keeper out lots as he gets in the way of the puck to block pucks left and right. Seattle Riot (S31) Trevor Wilson - 1104 TPE - SNP - Seattle Riot Notable Strengths - PH: 90 - SC: 94 - SK: 89 - PA: 84 - EN: 90 - ST: 90 - DF: 89 Weaknesses (80 or Below) - CK: 40 A player who looked like he would soon be living on the lonely island, Wilson now finds himself with a pretty decent core of players for the riot to work with. Being ear marked as primarily a sniper, Wilson has been building himself pretty evenly so far in his career and has been putting up some semi decent numbers. With Seattles core being overall younger and middle of the road in skill, it will be interesting to see how far Wilson can come this season and the next few to follow. Posied to start to producing for the team being one of their top end wingers now, Wilson should enjoy at least a 30+ pt season, with hopes of maybe breaking the 40 mark. Most likely one of their kep players moving forward, their GM can only hope they can retain Wilson moving forward as long as the rest of the core to build onto something competitive moving forward. (S32) Cory Knouse - 973 TPE - TWF - Seattle Riot Notable Strengths - DF: 87 - PA: 91 - SC: 83 - SK: 93 - ST: 85 - PH: 82 - EN: 81 Weaknesses (80 or Below) - CK: 60 One of the good surprises for that Riot over the last few seasons Knouse has now become one of the core and key pieces for the team starting in S36. Most likely being leaned on to expand his role and really start to be one of the catalysts for the Riots offense, Knouse will need to be the glue that holds together the offensive lines with his defensive play keeping the puck moving out of their zone and staying in the offensive one for as long as possible. Maybe leaning towards more of a Datsyuk like player with a growing physical edge, look for Knouse to be a good match up for Wilson should they stay together. (S32) Kyle Kylrad - 1088 TPE - SNP - Seattle Riot Kylrad Notable Strengths - PH: 86 - SC: 99 - SK: 89 - PA: 89 - DF: 83 - EN: 87 Weaknesses (80 or Below) - CK: 64 - ST: 80 Progressing really nicely over the past few seasons for the Steelhawks, Kylrad has really started to make some impact across the league. One of the primier players of his draft class he should (if they can keep him, with the knowledge that he wants to be with Atmey for his career) be a great player for the Riot moving forward and offer them some much needed punch upfront and offensive flair that the Riot have sorely been lacking the last few seasons. (S32) Samee Iqbal - 932 TPE - PLY -Seattle Riot Samee Notable Strengths - SC: 81 - PH: 82 - PA: 90 - FO: 83 - SK: 84 - EN: 83 - ST: 85 - EN: 82 - DF: 85 Weaknesses (80 or Below) - CK: 40 The well travelled Centerman keeps getting tossed around like a dildo at a Lesbian orgy, but if the Riot can calm him down enough for him to stay more than a few seasons, they will have a potential 1st line if at worst 2nd line center to help build their team around. Sort a mixed bag currently for what he is heavily leaning toward building his player he still has a pass first mentality and is decent in the dot to boot. He will still need to grow a bit to really make an impact, but he is close to start pushing himself into the talks for one of the SHL regulars for the subject of 1st line forwards. Texas Renegades (S30) Conklin Owen - 1355 TPE - SNP -Texas Renegades Phobospwns Notable Strengths - ST: 90 - PA: 90 - SC: 99 - SK: 96 - EN: 85 - PH: 96 - DF: 90 Weaknesses (80 or Below) - CK: 50 With the Renegades forward corps aging, the need for skilled forwards to come in and take the reigns is needed sooner than later. Now they still have some time to develop the talent needed to replace those who are regressing but with not to many of their prospects being quite to the level that Owen is, they will be looking for him to lead the next charge for the renegades. He has shown signs of what he can do with a 40 pt season only 1 season ago, but he took a bit of a step back this year. Hopefully it wasn't a sign of what to expect, rather just a minor set back in the players production. Look for owen to be the offensive leader as early as next season, but I wouldnt be shocked to see him make that jump this year. (S31) Adam Kaiser - 1133 TPE - OFF D - Texas Renegades Kaisonious Notable Strengths - DF: 99 - PH: 89 - PA: 81 - SK: 81 - EN: 90 - PH: 81 - SC: 91 Weaknesses (80 or Below) - CK: 79 - ST: 70 The long tenured junior defenseman has been getting some chances the last 2 seasons, but has yet to really break out. With the renegades D core being as deep as it is, Kaiser has had to take a bit of a back seat for his team and the role expected of him, and currently it isn't looking much better. With TPE monster Vader holding down the #1 spot, and even with their 3 other D regressing, they all still sit ahead of Kaiser leaving him more than likely relegated to the 3rd pairing, with maybe the odd time on the 2nd pairing. If he hopes to step into a bigger role with the team he will still be waiting 1-2 more seasons, but his overall worth should not be diminshed because of this fact. Maybe not your first choice for the talks of defensmen with potential, Kaiser is not a victim of being a bad player, rather a good player in a bad situation for growth. Winnipeg Jets (S31) Zach Evans - 1215 TPE - SNP - Winnipeg Jets ztevans Notable Strengths - SK: 90 - ST: 87 - EN: 87 - PH: 90 - PA: 84 - SC: 99 - DF: 90 Weaknesses (80 or Below) - CK: 61 The first member of the Jets 3 headed dragon, Evans has been doing a bit of a slow burn towards becoming what he had built towards but the patience and dedication finally began to pay off in S35. A 20 point improvement and a more refined physical game had Evans looking like a top line forward for the Jets, exactly what they were hoping for when they drafted him. Maybe passing the puck a little more than they would hope rather than shoot, it really doesn't matter at the end of the day as long as the puck goes in off of someones effort. Long term it's not sure if he will continue to work on his physical side of things, but currently it looks like they have a decent (lesser) power forward developing with Evans. (S31) Jason Visser - 1394 TPE - PLY - Winnipeg Jets ToeDragon84 Notable Strengths - SK: 94 - ST: 87 - EN: 86 - PH: 96 - FO: 85 - PA: 86 - SC: 97 Weaknesses (80 or Below) - CK: 57 The big daddy for TPE for the dragon, Visser much like Evans was a bit of slow build up to get where he wanted, but with the transition from S34 to S35 he also made some huge strides breaking the 50 point mark. With Evans and Visser both being shoot 1st players, one can wonder long term if the two of them will mesh well if both are looking to launch the puck at the net, but currently it doesn't seem to be an immediate issue with Visser doubling his goal totals with his assists. Close to probably maxing what he wants to build with still 5 seasons from regression even beginning, Visser is the meaning of franchise center and will be a huge part of the team culture and identity of the Jets moving forward. (S31) Corey Bearss - 1161 TPE TWF - Winnipeg Jets CBear Notable Strengths - ST: 90 - SK: 90 - SC: 90 - EN: 85 - PH: 90 - PA: 92 - DF: 90 Weaknesses (80 or Below) - CK: 63 Not as flashy as the other two forward, Bearss brings a unique set of skills that when paired with those two would be a match made in heaven. A pass 1st mentality, mixed with a very defensive mindset and toss in an increasingly physical play style Bearss can help to open space for his more offensively minded team mates, all while helping to keep forwards and defensemen honest as he will be just as likely to hit them as they are him. Maybe 1-2 seasons away still from truly hitting his elite stride, he will most likely see 2nd line minutes this season and hopefully see some improvements across the board from his 30 pt season in S35.

Nice work Rabid, Atmey and Saranatez will be real good pieces for MAN as we get some replacement for losing Hamilton and it would be intresting to see Redding and Aitto top the season that they had last season, I really don't expect myself to have amazing numbers like in juniors as of yet. And Joe's gonna become the King of Calgary just how Charlotte's the Queen of the Women's Division. And will c's 4D Chess master plan work this season?
Thanks to prettyburn, TML, Carpy, JNH, Jepox, Engi, Karey, Flappy, Skolpadder, Mook, DollarAndADream, Smirnov and Toe for the sigs.
