Because GMing is like volunteering to help out the team. It's a role you take if you have the time and commitment to do so. I get it, if you put in the time to do test sims, lines, management, offseason, etc, you should get paid to compensate for your efforts right? I prefer to think that the reward you get should ultimately be team success. An active LR/discord that is enjoyable. Rather than a blank 3M-5M you can use to train your player.

devils advocate,

isnt doing any job essentially helping the site and you could argue that its worth volunteering for just to make the site better and help it

I called it volunteering for a reason. You don't get paid monetary value for volunteering (usually) but the gratification of helping the community out. The reward to me as GMing will always be the satisfaction of seeing the team you're at the helm at succeed and improve. I don't see a reason why GMs NEED to get paid for their work if they are already receiving a type of reward for their efforts. As for if they SHOULD be paid? Well I think my concerns have already been mentioned by RED in this thread already.
