Petersson finding success in the playoffs

After a relatively mediocre second regular season for the Swedish center out of St. Louis, Elias Petersson is here with us to discuss his sudden unprecedented success in St. Louis' first playoff series against the Vancouver Whalers.

Elias, it's no secret that clearly you've changed something in the way you've been playing recently. Mind giving us a little insight into how you've been spending your training time?

Yeah I took a little time off to focus a little bit on myself outside of hockey, really I've just been getting back into the gym, back to the rink, going out there and doing reps. I've been working a lot with (teammate Logan) Jensen as far as passing and one on one. I'm glad to see all the time I've been spending in the gym paying off, and really reflecting into how I play on the ice.

Talk to us a little bit about how you feel about the rest of the teams performance and your overall thoughts on St. Louis' chance to bring the cup home this post season.

I think its showing right now that this is one of the better St. Louis teams on the ice recently, and I think there's a pretty good chance we bring the cup to St. Louis. These guys are really determined, and it shows in their performance day in and day out, in the gym and on the ice. We've got a lot of incredible talent here, and for a lot of em it's their last chance to get one. I think it shows too that a lot of the young guys on the squad here really wanna win the cup for the veterans too.

Speaking of Veterans, not a lot is known about your future status in regards to a roster spot in Manhattan. Can you speak a little on whether or not you'll be returning to St. Louis for a third season?

I think it's pretty safe to say I should be back in St. Louis for at least another season. I've been in pretty close contact with the management in Manhattan and they're pretty pleased with what they've seen, but obviously I've still got room to grow and areas of my game I need to improve on.

Speaking of Manhattan, they're currently struggling in their SHL playoff series against the Minnesota Chiefs. What are your thoughts on Manhattans chances to rebound from a deficit?

Manhattan is a relatively young team, but I think if I'm optimistic they have a small chance of winning it all this season. Minnesota is a really good team with a dedicated core of players, so it'll be interesting to see in the coming days whether or not Manhattan can come back from their deficit. We'll have to see, I'm optimistic and looking forward to the result.

Thanks for your time Elias!
