Pay the GM's

Why pay one and not the other? Both put in copious amounts of work. And from what I've seen SMJHL jobs are far more often headed by newer members.

Seems like a slap in the face to the SMJHL GMs.
I just explained why one and not the other.

It's most of the post in fact

Just makes zero sense.

You act like SHL GM'ing is harder than SMJHL GM'ing. Both do very similar amounts of work load but do it very differently. SHL scouting is so much easier than SMJHL Scouting. Because we're dealing with people around for maybe a week before we draft them. We act as a segue and guide for newer members coming into the league. We're a lot more like mentors than the SHL GMs. SHL GMs also rely on us heavily for intel on who the fuck they even pick.

So while we have to worry less about tampering and budget. We do just as much work for this league as SHL GMs. Having one paid and the other not only is a slap in the face, but you should feel a little silly for even suggesting one without the other.

I like you Arty, but this stings, and I feel it will for a lot of us SMJHL GMs. Our member seniority has nothing to do with wanting to be respected for the work we do for the league.

I've said this before and I'll say it again:

I never thought my duties as a GM warranted a salary, it's easily something I'd do for free and it's not like it was a lot of work. That being said I'm perpetually poor and would always accept more money.

Also a good point that was brought up in the past: perhaps we could allow salaries for SHL GMs but omit SMJHL GMs, due to the possibility of more seasoned members taking most SMJHL GM jobs over younger members. Of course you'll have those people anyway (like myself) but many older user become senile and negative all the time and I'd think that'd be a terrible environment to have in the SMJHL.
If a SMJHL GM became senile and negative, I'm sure there would be tons of applicants with fresh energy ready to take over...

Which is why my original post had SHL GMs getting a slightly larger paycheck...

Even 2m(smjhl)/3m(shl) would be fine, I just think we should be thanking the GMs for their work by giving them a little something, not telling them they should feel lucky they got to take on extra work in the league.

My argument has nothing to do with what the job actually entails regarding difficulty of the job.

I do not feel silly as I am completely indifferent to the outcome of this situation and presented fine and sound logic.

My only worry, and a hypothetical one at that, is the deterioration of the SMJHL atmosphere I love and that has happened at a few points in history.

I find your reaction baffling, as I was merely suggesting a compromise for a very real issue.

In the end, I believe most general managers would see no ill-intent in my suggestion which leaves me even more confused and hurt over your reaction.

Absolutely, but a possible problem could arise if said user didn't want to resign from their post.

It's just an idea that was mentioned in the last two suggestions of this nature that received some positive feedback.

I do hope that adding SMJHL GM pay wouldn't have such an affect on the community, but it was brought up and seems like it could be a possibility,.

Deterioration? The SMJHL won't deteriorate because 16 members suddenly get a couple more million in the bank for their work.

From S30 to S34 the SMJHL encountered what I believe to be an example of the league's atmosphere deteriorating due to certain users in administrative positions.

Granted, this was not (for the most part) the fault of GM's. As stated above, I'm just adding to the conversation by speculating worst-case scenarios.

Also, like I said above, the stated scenario of more interest in SMJHL GM jobs is likely minimal if existent whatsoever, but I felt it's real enough to be mentioned.

Why do I get paid more to pick 7 players in fantasy than I do for 10's of hours of work I put into the Montreal team every season.
