there had to be the thinking that Elias wouldnt retire... and they would add picks from a deeper draft... similar to the thinking that edmonton had back in 35 when they drafted spitfire and quickly traded them to NE.... no?
there was despite me telling all the GMs that im not dealing with their BS if they draft me, lol

There was an oversight by Samee and R1ce at the time Samee created his new player but after that initial mistake there was literally nothing Samee could do.

I guess the joke is on NEW considering Manhattan managed to turn their 19th overall pick and a S43 4th into 20th overall and a S43 2nd while NEW pissed away a top end 2nd rounder  Hmm
I appreciate the recognition.

This was legitimately a pretty horrific situation to have, and really shouldn't have happened. That said, as the guy in S14-S18 in the SMJHL who kept saying to pull this shit on juniors who said they refuse to play somewhere, I'm chaotically pleased at the least. We'll see how it goes long term, but I would assume it very much hurt their favor with Seattle at the least and I'd assume most GMs will be thinking a little differently when talking to them. Probably not the best way to go.

Could the samee thing happen next draft if he recreates?

But that's just a stupid thing to do and should have just left the player alone
That's a good question because from what I understand he was technically named interim GM when Rice stepped down until he could acquire his own player via draft or trade. He didn't do that, so he hasn't established himself as the permanent Head GM. However there aren't any established rules on recreating as an interim Head GM..

There was no one else we wanted at that point in the draft, so we decided to draft an active player. It wasn't for a joke, I just have an issue with the fact that a respected SHL GM expected every other team on the site to let an active player fall to 22nd overall in a weakish draft out of good will when they had 2 first round picks to draft his player if they wanted to. I've message Samee numerous times at this point and have offered a 5th and his player in exchange for a 5th. Literally giving his player back for nothing.

I'd also like to mention literally the same thing happened to me in the past with Edmonton, and we worked out a deal to make it work for both sides.

In hindsight we regret the decision, and I'd like to personally apologize to Samee and Seattle.

I don't think there is much more to say about the matter.

Did Rice step down mid-season technically? I thought the season had already started. I was told last off-season that I hadn't completed a full rotation of one off-season to the next as GM and therefore wasn't a GM for one season. As such, S40 was my first full season as GM and I can now go about things like recreating, changing my contract, etc. So it's entirely possible he won't count as GM yet and will still need to use a 2nd on himself next draft, though I would argue we should make it automatic so this can't happen next season.

He did adjust accordingly. He made the picks to benefit his team, and told anyone who didn't play ball he'd retire. New England called his bluff. He wasn't bluffing. I'm not sure what more you expect him to do within the current ruleset (which, like, can we talk about that? Because all of this is dumb as fuck)
This has happened before. Other teams have called bluffs on players and they didn't bluff either, and yet the team doing it was rewarded. And honestly? I expect him to trade up to make sure he can draft him. This has happened before too where someone had to be drafted in the first to ensure they wouldn't get picked by another team thus being ransomed.

Also, the specific situation this became with Samee retiring before he became a co, and the three year auto draft is retarded yeah.

I found this situation to be quite hilarious and I would have done the same thing in the situation.

that's what I was thinking in that next draft someone could take him again because of the stupid wording of the SHL rulebook

It still feels insane to me that teams are just given their GMs player.

Its like "hey, here's a free stud player", because i'm pretty sure every GM is going to be the best they can be.

It should be more like the NSFL where you're required to get your GM's player with a first rounder.

Free players shouldn't happen.

i think the rules in place so that a GM doesnt hire a co whos about to retire... grab him in the draft for a late 2nd and then give the co commish position to his next retiree... keeping all his retired players in a grey area loophole.
