Interview With Pick #41 - Nicholas Williams

We caught up Williams the day after the draft for a 1v1 interview. Although he was picked 1st in the 6th round, this 2 way forward is ready to prove his worth in this tough junior league.

Interviewer "Welcome to the league Nicholas, how are you feeling?"
Williams "Tired, excited, and ready for more. The draft was a huge dream come true for me and I cannot wait to show my new team what I can do.
Interviewer "That's good to hear. Now you were selected 41st overall by the St Louis Scarecrows, were you expecting them to pick you?"
Williams "Honestly, it was a dream come true to have them pick me. They have a great organization with a rookie first mindset. Just walking into the room I knew I found home. No only that, but their GM truly believes in me and my fellow draftees"
Interviewer "Were you expecting to go higher then 41? I know some scouts had to you going as high as 16."
Williams "With how big this draft class is, 41st is not a bad place to sit. It's just low enough to say, 'I'm going to prove a a lot of scouts wrong,' and high enough to be respected right out the gate.
Interviewer "Did you make any connections with any of the other rookies your team took, or maybe ones that went to other teams?"
Williams "Of course. On the Crow's roster, I can safely say Kiko (Rytmeyr) and I hit it off. We are both rink rats trying to improve our game everyday. As to others who went elsewhere, we were just starting to get to know each other and are excited to compete against each other."
Interviewer "You have been quoted saying you would stay in the juniors for full term, do you still see that as a possibility?"
Williams "Of course, I would love to stay with the junior team if it helped my development. I also would love to be able to help mentor some new junior rookies in their first seasons, so staying with the team longer shows my leadership skills."
Interviewer "So leadership is something you are looking for as a player, would you say you were captain material?"
Williams "I definitely wouldn't rule it out. Like I said, I want to help out the team in anyway or form. Be given a 'C' or 'A' would just be the icing on the cake."
Interviewer "If you were to win the cup this year, who would you credit? The team? Yourself?"
Williams "The team, hockey is a team sport and without the right chemistry it would be hard to win the cup."

Interviewer "One last question before we leave, If you could give any advise to S43 SMJHL prospects, what would it be?"
Williams "Work hard and you can make your dreams come true."
Interviewer "Thank you Nicholas, I'm sure we'll be talking more in the future."
Williams "Thank you, I sure hope so."
