One of the first things I saw or heard of in the Locker Room was about what Waters does before games. It is so weird how a General Manager could get so amped and do so many weird things. He always cuts off the skin at the bottom of his foot before each game for good luck. It is weird -- but I guess it works.
JayWhy on the other hand is a more composed guy -- seemingly always never phased and looking to stay relaxed. I have seen him smoking bogies in between shifts and it concerns me for his endurance and ability to compete every shift.
Lastly Ml002 happens to be the best coach from what I heard. He is intense and pays attention to a great amount of details. He is able to pick apart everyone of our opponents and is able to deduce what their gameplan would be before the game even starts. Overall the locker room has startled me in various ways.

The three things that have surprised in the scarecrows locker room that is a good question. The first and one of the biggest surprises to me in the Crows locker room is the lack of a discuss thread in the locker room. After spending such a long time in the Winnipeg’s locker which has a locker room discussion thread dates back to lord (@Leafs4ever ) knows what season and all of its 1895 pages. Therefore, to come in to a locker room with no discussion thread was bit surprising to say the least. One of the other nice surprises is the sharing the locker room with some old friends from Norway, and it is good to be back playing with @Nereus. And last surprise, but certainly not least is that I am finally able to share a locker room with @Slappydoodle . Granted this will make harder for me to talk smack behind his back. Although considering I lost a locker room connection to a real non-SHL friend ( @Steelhead77 ) when I lost Detroit’s locker room, it is good to gain another in St. Louis’s.
I was in the fortunate situation to be the very first player of the new Raptors rookie class to enter the locker room so while the team was still working on completing the draft and reaching out to the lesser known prospects, many of them from abroard, I was already getting to know the first team representatives and getting ready to board a flight to Colorado. When I reached the locker room I expected just an empty room and maybe a guided tour from someone from the staff, but actually there were a bunch of players there to greet me as well when I first stepped in. One of them, our likely new Captain Troy McClure, told me that I had been assigned the stall next to Cash Savage while the rest of the guys giggled inexplicably. I wasn't quite sure what to make of it and while Troy led my to my new stall, I noticed a mysterious bag in the stall next too mine that seemed to... vibrate ever so slightly while making humming noises. I wasn't sure what to make of it and was too overwhelmed to ask at that point - sadly, just a few days later Cash Savage would end up being traded to Kelowna and with him, the mysterious bag disappeared as well. Looks like I will never find out what was actually in it...
Another thing that I found interesting about our new locker room didn't become clear until all the other rookies started pouring in, among them some Europeans and even another Germany in Andrew Martin. You always expect certain things from a draft and the players given their draft position, but then there are some people who just instantly surprise you and win you over with their attitude, which makes you wonder why the hell they hadn't been drafted much, much earlier. I got to meet a bunch of these kinds of players already, people who had to wait six or more rounds to hear their names called but who didn't react to that with frustration, but with an even bigger desire to win and prove the world wrong.
And the last thing that surprised me about my new locker room was how a rookie managed to instantly take over the teams boombox. Sulak O'Hritea, the tough as nails Power Forward didn't hesitate at all when the first practice rolled around and started filling the room with the playlists he had created especially for this situation on his flight over. And so far I have heard no objections from either the veterans or the rookies - although it might just be because we are all a bit scared of the big almost-Irishman.

What goes on in the locker room stays in the locker room. This is my motto. This is my motto for almost everything in life. I'm not your typical gossip pal. In fact, I'm not much of a talkative human being...unless i'm drunk. I just do my thing and expect you to do yours.
But here i am, sober, selling my soul trying to earn them beloved 4 training points. A man gotta do what a man gotta do. Today is the day i make an exception. So here's the only thing that you need to know about us;
Our team's overall dick sizes and shapes are spectacular. Some of us are monsters. Some are smaller, but cute. Some are bent to the right, some bent to the left. Some are aiming for the sun, always ready for action. Others hanging low, clinging to life. But nobody, NOBODY, has a micro...and THAT, ladies and gentlemen, is the most important thing in this league.
Oh, and also, coach @thedangazone likes chicken parm and @King has already started to grow a playoff beard.
Needless to say, the Halifax Raiders are set for greatness.

Since arriving in St. Louis I've been blown away with how welcoming everyone has been. I've never been much of a people person. It can be hard to get me to open up, and I'm more content listening from the outside of the conversation than to be at the center of it. However, I've been encouraged from the get-go to really be a part of the team and participate in the conversation. Its a blast to hang with the guys and talk to them about anything that comes to mind. We've argued about music, games, music, food, music, shitty youtube videos and music again. As a first generation hockey player, I wasn't sure what to expect, but even my high school team locker room didn't prepare me for the camaraderie you experience in the Scarecrows locker room. I'm looking forward towards interacting with everyone as time goes on, whether its from the press box, on the bench, and hopefully someday in the crease.
After a crazy day at the draft I am so proud to say that my brother and I are Halifax Raiders. I know I felt so honored when I heard my brother’s name get called. To hear my name get called immediately after his was just the icing on the cake. It was a quick turnaround from the draft my brother and I found ourselves in Halifax with Kingsy, Crush, Dersy, Maxi, FO, Snipy, Tomi and Nate. Archer quickly handed out the chicken parms and told us what to expect. Our rebuild, our vision and what he expects.
The biggest bromance on the team is clearly the Kovacs brothers and it isn’t even close! One thing I noticed right away is Kingsy is a born leader. I heard about him pre-draft but being here with him, he really has taken on that role. Just little things like pregame chats, and checkups you know he’s looking out for his teammates on and off the ice. The big thing about our group is we have a locker room of young and eager guys with a lot of enthusiasm. We got some good conversations in with alum like Shane, he gave us the rundown and even some OTR stuff about Archer. The biggest surprise is how vocal everyone is. Constant updates and reminders about each other, vocal in the showers, on the ice. We are all talking and communicating on unprecedented levels. We believe going forward this high level of communication will propel us to the best locker room in the league. Shout out to Shoot McGavin our only vet and dad. We hope he stays with us, praise Shooter!
That’s all for now can’t wait to learn more and get Halifax a trophy!
What an experience! Couldn't be feeling more at home already in Halifax as the youthfulness has already begun to breathe success into the roster. With Leshaun leading the way, the identity has already been cultivated into a more physical, faster-paced team. You can feel the competitiveness as well, especially between the lines. You have the 2nd overall pick up on the top line already, while the 2nd line has already become known as the KOC line, as the twins are paired with Crush.
We have already developed chemistry, although our early stats don't necessarily show... we are ready. Well outside of the game day ritual of the twin building their damn shrine, it is usually just blaring some AC/DC as I lace 'em up and get ready for the game. Preparation and focus has always been my go to... yeah, cliche... but I have learned from the best. Envision, prepare, engage... destroy.
Arvid had arrived in North America without much, if any, fanfare. Being a free agent sounds nice, or so he told himself to deal with the slight of not being drafted having registered too late. Putting up a brave facade, Arvid weighed the pros and cons of signing with each team based on the rumours he heard about their locker rooms.
Anchorage Armada
Pro: Are given daily boat rides out to visit the beautiful open sea and witness whales occasionally.
Cons: Live in Anchorage, talk like an old seaman constantly, become a Seaman apparently, also I heard they were getting fit for peg legs.
Colorado Raptors
Pro: Marijuana is legal, I hear it's quite scenic and Jax Aitokallio is a beautiful man I could look at in the locker room for days.
Cons: Practically enslaved into 10+ hours weekly of Jurassic Park marathons.
Detroit Falcons
Pro: Renown hockey city and passionate fanbase, with every player on the team being given a free pet falcon.
Cons: I hear every single one of their players has already been mugged... twice.
Halifax Raiders
Pro: Canada is a nice place full of nice people, and I hear the Bluenose gives free chocolate milk to their regulars
Cons: It's almost too nice, something suspicious is happening and Richard Metcalf Jr has a possessed look in his eye...
Kelowna Knights
Pro: I hear they bequeath upon each player a sword and title as well as possibly lands.
Cons: From what I hear there's a lot of infighting over one girl that could threaten to end the ruler's career.
Montreal Militia
Pro: Montreal is a big, modern city with classic architecture and wonderful people as well they instill a Forces Night every Thursday (yes the cheap game) to support the local troops
Cons: I've heard all sorts of bad rumours about every single one of their players when their game is even slightly off. Hockey mad isn't how I'd describe this city, it's hockey insane.
St. Louis Scarecrows
Pros: From what I've heard, they've never had a single bird fly into their arena because of their logo and that's good because birds scare me.
Cons: Apparently they have shift duty to be the arena scarecrow to make sure birds don't come in the arena... and it's unpaid.
Vancouver Whalers
Pros: Legalized rioting after home losses so long as you don't make it too obvious who you are
Cons: Whaling is illegal and I hear that some members do still partake in this disgusting past-time.
Detroit is definitely one of the weirdest locker rooms there is in the SMJHL, but when I was drafted there 16th overall and walked into the backroom with management and got to meet the rest of my teammates as they trickled in, one by one, after hearing their name called, I knew it was going to be a great place. Like I said though, this place is weird, and there's a couple big reasons why. First of all, Tig is constantly clipping his toenails. Every single day, this guy is spending hours upon hours just clipping small parts of his toenails. They look like some kind of dented rock sculpture. Also, Tobias is always asking the mascot if he can borrow his Falconhead. He's always trying to wear it, sometimes he wears it in the shower. I think our mascot gets really uncomfortable whenever he sees Tobias coming out of the locker room. This place is definitely a very weird place all-around, but a place that isn't weird is a place that's boring.
As a free agent rookie with no idea how anything works, I received offers from a few SMJHL teams. Feeling overwelmed and looking for help, I reached out to one of the GMs who took me under his wing and helped me with all my questions. It became clear to me that joining the Scarecrows was the right choice from the beginning for me. As a quiet person I have kept to myself in the locker room watching and observing my new team mates. I quickly learned that the team is very friendly and just like the GM, will help with any problems you have. JKortesi81 knows how to run a team and build a contender full of rookies. Having those with connections to former players in our locker room helps big time. Nikolaj Boyle is a clear locker room leader who will keep the team strong during the hardest of times. This season looks to be a great one for St. Louis and I can't wait for it to get started.
