S44 PT #1 - This Version of You

This season will be huge for Sulak O'Hritea. It will be the first season the Swiss forward gets to grind it out with the big boys in the SHL. More importantly, Sulak has gotten bigger over the season, and father time has made him harder. That's right, the Swiss forward is bigger and harder in the most important area of his game. The sheets. Over the season, he had an intense workout regiment, building strength in his member. Each day, the big Swiss would achieve no less then 100 cock push ups. Then, he would switch over to hanging a weight on his lower arm, and would curl the weight. His goal for this season is clear, bang hard on and, more importantly, off the ice. Being a physical presence on the ice and in the sheets will be key to the young Swiss doing well for years to come.

Alonzo Garbanzo is very deep into regression at this point, meaning that he isn't at all what he used to be out on the ice. Coupled with the fact he was somewhat overspent somehow, this means that Garbanzo will be even worse going into S44. His checking is off, his skating is off, he doesn't have the same endurance he used to have. All of it is essentially gone. All that I want out of this season is to get at least 30 points on the year, and preferrably 20 by the trade deadline. If I don't, then it is very unlikely that Garbanzo is going to come back for S45. But depending on how the season shakes out Garbanzo could definitely keep that going, as he is considered one of the best defenders to ever play the game. But then again, father time knows every man's number. Even someone who is as well known and respected as Alonzo Garbanzo.

Alonzo Garbanzo Final Tallies (Among Defensemen):
2nd in Goals (208), All-Time Assists Leader (765)*, All-Time Points Leader (973), 3rd in Hits (2587), All-Time Blocked Shots Leader (1882)*
*All-Time Leader Among All Skaters

In S44, I have been doing a lot of training to work up to it. You are going to see a more consistent Mikael Choybuk, that is for sure. I have worked a lot on my scoring and passing, and trying to make them on par with each other. I think a lot of people might know that in the past I have been more of a shoot-first kind of guy, with a lack of play making. The big thing for me in the off-season was to even those out a little bit, and I think I have done just that if you take a look at my skill set. I do not know who I will be playing alongside this season, but it really does not matter to me as long as our skills can compliment one another. During Season 44 I hope to get a lot more points than I did last season. I was definitely disappointed in myself.

Jon Toner has been a solid Top 4 Dman during his first two seasons but is looking to take the next step during season 44. Toner has spent time this season working mostly on both his shot and his checking. In the past Toner's checking has been almost non-existant, typically relying on his stickwork and skating to defend against the opposition. But having worked on checking quite a bit this offseason, he looks to add that new element to his game. In the past 2 years Toner typically finds himself sitting around 25 or so points, with his improved shot he's looking to put himself over the 30 point mark, the preseason showing the potential for that to happen. In past years Toner typically partnered with defensive and physical stalwart Maurice Picard, but with the addition of Toivo Kosonen during the offseason, Toner will likely spend the season next to veteran Matthew Leetch, from whom he will hopefully learn a thing or two.

Alexis Metzler is a little bit older, a smidgeon more tired, but will likely play more or less the same role he did in the previous season. He has, fortunately, not lost a step, and his job will be made easier by the continued ascendance of teammates Tatu Makela, Frederick Koenig, and GOD McZehrl. This will take less stress off his need to be damn certain of the safety of the blue line all the time, and perhaps enable him to be more aggressive around the net. He could be playing with any of Frederick Koenig, Tatu Makela or GOD McZehrl; playing with Charles Walker is technically an option, but team management views them both as true 1D defencemen and likes to give them equal minutes on separate lines these days. He spent time with all 3 players in the preseason, and all worked fine with him. Metzler would love another Stevens, but in reality, he'd prefer the Challenge Cup.

S44 Oliver is more of less the same. He is still holding down the first line in Halifax with his brother Kristof and teammate Vin Reaper. He can expect to see a reduction in minutes as his younger inexperienced team has grown since the previous season and the team can spread out minutes more evenly. Oliver has lots of experience and skill to spend but playing at the junior level he really has nothing more to learn at this level. The only thing evading him is a four star cup but with 2 straight seasons without playoffs and a team with lots of question marks it looks like his final season will probably earn him no accolades or titles. However he remains loyal to his draft team and hopes to see at least a round or two in the playoffs before going up to the Rage next season. The one thing Oliver has changed is his attitude, no longer hyper competitive and prone to outbursts and negativity. This offseason Oliver has learned to take things as they come, enjoy the game a bit more and worry about the scores a little less. He still aims to be one of the best wingers in the league and do some damage but it looks like he won’t be throwing any garbage cans or cussing out management for poor results. Time to enjoy this for what it is.

This season Andrew Martin is hoping to continue the success that he had left off with when he won the four star cup with the Vancouver Whalers and leading his team in points in both the regular season and the playoffs. The one goal of Andrew Martin this season would be to try and win some personal awards. This far in his career and knowing that it will probably be his last season playing in the juniors. He has improved his game a lot, he now has way mor experience under his belt than he previously did, and that will help him a lot this season. It also helps that Martin is playing a huge role for the Whalers as the 1C. They really don't have anyone that could take that from his, so that puts a lot of pressure on him to do well and succeed in the role. Overall, Martin will break league records.

Jordan von Matt's rookie season in S44 will be much different from his previous years in the SMJHL. With his time on the Anchorage Armada, he's consistently been able to eat up big minutes on the first defensive pairing. With Jordan getting the call up to play with Toronto, he'll be playing sheltered minutes on the third pair, which is fine by him. He definitely feels like he's improved most aspects of his game, but he won't be putting up the same stat lines as he's used to. In Anchorage, Jordan would drive the offensive play, where as in Toronto he'll mainly be sitting back and ensuring that he's not a liability defensively. With a strong core in front of him, Jordan doesn't need to constantly be the star player that he's used to being. That being said, give him a few years, and he'll be one of the premier defencemen in the league.

Shooter McGavin has been in a depth role the past two seasons, but it looks like he'll be lean on to play top 6 minutes this season. The Calgary Dragons have seen some changing of the guard, as Randleman has been released, and Esa has gotten to the point where he is now a top 9 role player. Shooter has continued to put in time to improve everywhere, but he wants to be a reliable two-way player, so that he isn't a liability when he isn't scoring. It's about doing the little things right, and being in the right position to succeed. Shooter's #1 trait is his shot, so not only did he work on that in the off-season, but he also worked on his skating so that he can get to the areas he needs in order to utilize his blistering shot. Shooter is definitely on the incline of his career, and this year will be a big stepping stone for him. In order to handle the increased load, Shooter has also worked on endurance, since he'll be on the ice for about 5 minutes more per night, and that will include some late game scenarios. It might be a stretch goal, but Shooter would like a 20 goal season. and he'll have to work hard throughout the year to make that happen.

The last season was not a great season in my eyes but it had nothing to do with the team itself, it was just series of unfortunate events that lead to the poor ending of the season. Maybe the negative energy could be felt in the air, that big changes are about to happen, and maybe that was what affected rest of the team, but I did not feel nothing or know nothing until it happened. Our GM and #1 center left the team right after the season was over. For Teo it was unexpected event and one that struck me out of a blue sky. Loosing two such important pieces of a team is never good. Now we have a new co-GM and a new number one center, both of the guys are good and will bring good things to this team, but it will definitely be harder than last season due to the new teammate and management. But I will keep doing what I do and try to make the best out of it for the upcoming season and hopefully we can get the team back into playoffs.

Last season was my rookie year in the SMJHL and I believe it was a decent one. My role on the team was to play on the third pairing on the right side and provide a solid two-way game. My strengths include skating, passing, and defense. I want to continue improving on all three of those aspects while also improving on my shot. I believe if I can improve my offensive game and my shot I'll be able to provide more for my team and translate the offensive production into more wins. I also believe I can improve my strength and endurance as I find at times I may struggle against the big skilled power forwards in the league. We are expected to have a very competitive team in Detroit and if I can make drastic improvements with my shot, strength, and endurance, it will go a long way to helping my team win and hopefully earn a championship title.

S43 has finally passed. A new team, a new training coach, and a new responsibility awaits for Lyndis Vakarian on the Toronto North Stars. Over the offseason, Vakarian finally reached the 1000 TPE mark and seems to be reignited with a new passion to improve her overall play. Previously Vakarian had been playing on the Hamilton Steelhawks 2nd-3rd line with no powerplay time to speak of. Now wearing a different color blue, Lyndis Vakarian will be playing alongside Jonathan Lundberg and Chris York on the 1st line along with powerplay time to be a top shooting threat for the Toronto North Stars. With this new responsibility as a shooter for the Stars, she's ready to put up some actual goals this season and some expectations. She's expecting to hit 20 goals and 20 assists for a total of 40 points while hopefully maintaining an above even +/-. An Aidan Richan is the big reach in her goals for S44 but it's certainly possible.
