I think that's a great idea. Screwing over the guys who have waited for Free Agency or planned for several seasons for this to be the season they go to FA only to screw them over is kind of crazy.

For example, say a player like me wants to enter free agency, but he gets picked by an expansion team. That would make me an RFA. I’m not exactly looking forward to possibly being an RFA, but it could happen.

Right thats dumb. And to follow on Luke and McZ's point - the solution is that in order to re-sign your own FAs you have to protect them. PBE just did this, it worked out fine and no one was fucked over.

Just to clarify that, you wouldn't be forced to sign with the team (e.g. even though the expansion team gets something from the team the FA signs with, if you decide to go elsewhere the expansion team doesn't get to match). I feel like that's being lost in the whole thing.

That being said I've been reading every discussion about the expansion draft, so I'm glad to see all these alternatives being proposed.

There we Go.... mind games for unprotected players to went not taken in the Expansion Draft! Clever plan

Why should an unprotected player who is a free agent be forced to sign with an expansion team. If you're a pending free agent is unfair for you to be drafted.

This happened to me in another league and basically killed my interest in both the league and my player. It was going to be my first chance to even experience free agency in a sim league, and I was actually excited by it. But I ended up forced into an automatic contract from an expansion draft.

Granted, it sounds like it's a bit fairer to the player in this league, and that can only be a good thing.
