You will probably need to sign for somewhere between 3M-4M+ to even have a shot of going to another team.

Just talk to the expansion team that drafts you and see if you can make some sort of compromise with them. Ask them not to match the offer you get etc. Obv they won't let you lk for free, they ill ant a 2nd or a 1st as an asset but ...

Don't teams trade 1sts/2nds etc for rentals? Why wouldn't they sacrifice picks to get you? Or ask the team you're talking with to trade for your rights. You will still have the ability to talk to other teams in RFA but those are your options.

Expansion teams can’t match offers on FAs they draft but sign elsewhere. The expansion team would just get compensation.

I feel like that's being lost in the whole thing.

That being said I've been reading every discussion about the expansion draft, so I'm glad to see all these alternatives being proposed.

thx for clearing it up eggy you're a godsend

It's my fault for comparing it to RFA when I made the initial announcement. It's not perfect by any stretch, but I just made it so much worse with my word choice.

Yeah, it ill save expansion teams the hassle then.

Since all 700+ tpe players fall under the 3M bracket hich is a 2nd rounder. So if a team willing to give up a 2nd then Hagan will be good to go. If the team doesn't want to lose picks, they should try trading for his rights or something.

Velvera as example should have an older player than you ... the question is ... what is the plan of both Expansion GMs!? you cant say right now that they wont have a chance at the cup. We will have a lot of over 1000 TPE players available in the Draft what I know. Then we also have the Free Agency where Free Agents also can sign with Expansion Teams.

I really dont know what you are talking about? because for right now its totally senseless!!!

Yeah, and Atmey isn't retired only because he is a good trade chip, similarly to Joe Kurczewski, once they get a good haul they will recreate to fit the timeline better.
After doing a ton of expansion draft mocks you should know that expansion teams aren't likely to compete at all and their course of action will be set on drafting strong S40-43 players core they can build around. There might be some ~1.2k+ players available, but all of them in the regression, significantly lowering their value, and once again they are likely to become trade chips in S46.
It's a reality and I don't see a point of denying it. It's how expansion usually and should happen, they might try their luck with Free Agents, but SHL is famous for its lack of FA movement and the stigma that comes with leaving the team either via FA or trades.
Simple protection of not allowing unprotected FAs to return to their original team would be enough to prevent circumvention and shenanigans. The option to force FAs into RFA-esque status adds an unnecessary layer of complexity and causes drama as evident by this thread.

I definitely saw strong teams and its based on the question what the Expansion GMs will go for?!

if all will work out for one rebuilding and one contender Expansion GM then one of the Expansion Teams could be easily better and deeper than NEW, MIN, HAM, SEA and so on (except HAM the rest is fighting for a playoff spot).

the most of my Expansion Draft Simulations were made by S40 or younger members! just Confusion was older than S40 what I know. So you surely know that a member with an older player will look different on this total topic than we Wink

You has many possibilities and with them you must at first wait for the protection lists to see which players wont be protected and enter the Expansion Draft and then also what happens during the draft. BUF and EDM will lose just one more player because of Atmey (BUF) and Kurczewski (EDM)!

idk the total survey over all roster after the trades and the Free Agency but some teams cant protect all their high talented players. so more really good and active players you have ... so more you will lose. Calgary and Hamilton nearly safed the most actives with their trades. NEW will lose now more because Brumm isnt this important piece in the Expansion Draft. its will be really interesting what will happen but we should see min five over 1000 TPE defender, min one over 1000 TPE goalie and min four over 1000 TPE forwards. Offense will be the only lack in the Expansion Draft but for that they got their own players. So they have their offense flagship with themselves. The real question is ... will one of them really go for the cup or both more look for young pieces.

like I said, I am also normally UFA after this season .... and I cant wait to see the player list of the non protections. Then I know if I have the UFA or RFA status ... or what TDZ said :D

You don't have to be a bitch about it, to be frank. McZ's trying to make the point that not all is lost with the expansion teams.

In S25, the last expansion, the landscape was a little different. We obviously had fewer players, but teams easily gave up inactives and people that still had a lot of TPE yet weren't useful. Since then, there's been a scale change as well as a greater number of players at what most would deem a "serviceable" level. Those two things sort of contradict each other - which favors a team that's going to pick from non-protected players across the league. Not favors as in "sure shot to win a cup", but could make the playoffs. Without knowing what their strategies are and simply understanding that Velevra (and Joe) are extremely capable people, you should probably consider that a better destination than half the teams in the SHL - that is, until some people have their way and let half the teams into the playoffs.

That said, "senseless" might've been interpreted as harsh because McZ is German and still, after a decade on this forum, has not mastered mechanics. I don't consider what you're saying senseless insomuch as an odd, publicized direction to take as someone whose career is phasing out.

for me its totally senseless because we all dont know who will be protected and who unprotected! until this lists now one must bitch around! so the topic is until this lists in my opinion senseless and I will defend this opinion to my death.
