Top 100 SHL Players of Today! - S45
#46
(This post was last modified: 01-19-2019, 04:53 PM by ArGarBarGar.)

19. (S34) C (Los Angeles Panthers) - Matthew Auston || +7
Grade: 86
Past Seasons: S42-81, S43-38, S44-26

Matthew Auston enters the top-20 for the first time in his career, coming in at number 19. Auston scored 23 goals and 48 points on the year, his fourth straight 45+ point season (and fourth season in a row with 20+ goals). In the middle of his prime, Auston appears to be really putting the pedal to the metal, and continues to be a very consistent player. His hits are even starting to go up, even though that may not last all that long.

18. (S31) D (Los Angeles Panthers) - Toivo Kosonen || +5
Grade: 86.90
Past Seasons: S36-76, S37-76, S38-84, S39-46, S40-60, S41-40, S42-53, S43-22, S44-23

At 18 is Panthers defenseman Toivo Kosonen, moving into the top-20 for the first time in his career as well. Kosonen has had quite the long career, doing pretty well for himself but not exactly being the center of attention. He scored 8 goals and 40 points, his third ever 40+ point season, which is somewhat surprising to see considering he has been a major staple of the Wolfpack lineup for many years, alongside Jasper Clayton during his hey-day there.

17. (S31) LW (West Kendall Platoon) - Alex Light || -3
Grade: 87.90
Past Seasons: S37-74, S38-80, S39-53, S40-49, S41-37, S42-62, S43-23, S44-14

At 17 is Platoon winger Alex Light, a player that has been incredibly consistent in his production over the last decade or so, scoring 40+ points for the last 7 seasons, and 8 of the last 9. Light scored 25 goals and 49 points, actually tying his career best goal total from S42 despite his body starting to break down. Light certainly isn't getting any younger, but to be at this level at his age is pretty incredible.

16. (S39) D (Texas Renegades) - Liam O'Callaghan || New Entry
Grade: 88
Past Seasons: None

At 16 is Renegade defender Liam O'Callaghan, a player who just exploded onto the scene after his first season in Texas, scoring 14 goals and 46 points. This was a career year for the young defender, even registering 102 hits which nobody was anticipating going into S44. O'Callaghan was certainly a sparkplug on the ice as well, so it will be interesting to see how his play continues from this point.

15. (S31) RW (Edmonton Blizzard) - Joe Kurczewski || -5
Grade: 88.80
Past Seasons: S37-44, S38-18, S39-18, S40-26, S41-2, S42-6, S43-2, S44-10

At 15 is newly added Blizzard winger Joe Kurczewski, who after 12 seasons is finally seeing a change of pace with a new team. His trade from Calgary shocked the world, and with Edmonton in contention status Kurczewski has nowhere to go but up. He scored 21 goals and 45 points in his final year with the Dragons, registering 211 hits (just 1 shy of his career best) and even 229 shots. Kurczewski has shown no signs of slowing down as of yet, and Edmonton is going to be happy for picking him up.

14. (S35) D (Toronto North Stars) - Finn Krüger || +19
Grade: 88.80
Past Seasons: S39-82, S40-77, S41-79, S42-66, S43-72, S44-33

At 14 is North Stars defender Finn Krüger, who vaulted into the top-20 for the first time of his career. On the cusp of entering regression, Krüger has been pretty solid of a defenseman, getting his physical game up (he registered 100+ hits for the first time in his career in S44), he also produced a career-best 10 goals and scored 40 points yet again.

13. (S35) LW (Calgary Dragons) - Mike Izzy || +8
Grade: 91.50
Past Seasons: S40-56, S41-59, S42-55, S43-27, S44-21

At 13 is Mike Izzy, a player who has demonstrated to the SHL world that you don't just need to be a one-way offensive forward to get up high on this list. One of the most physical players in the league right now, Izzy has averaged almost 200 hits through his entire career so far, and in S44 it was no different as he had one of his best seasons yet. He scored 19 goals and 52 points, his second 50+ point season in the last three, and topped it all off with 180 hits to boot.

12. (S36) RW (New England Wolfpack) - Tigole Bitties || +7
Grade: 91.90
Past Seasons: S41-66, S42-63, S43-18, S44-19

At 12 is Wolfpack winger Tigole Bitties, just a bit shy of the top-10 but not for a lack of production. Bitties is one of those players who has been surfing under the radar, scoring 50+ points twice in the last three seasons and averaging 20+ goals in the last five. Bitties scored 22 goals and 51 points in S44, and enjoyed a career high 181 hits, and with him getting into the thick of his prime seasons the best is likely yet to come.

11. (S34) LW (Minnesota Chiefs) - Noro Wozy || +20
Grade: 92
Past Seasons: S37-88, S38-68, S39-58, S40-30, S41-20, S42-27, S43-65, S44-31

At 11 and a hair outside the top-10 is Noro Wozy, a winger for the Chiefs who has finally come into his own and is single-handedly willing the Chiefs to victory these days. Wozy scored 22 goals and 54 points in S44, which was almost as good as his 29 goals and 56 points the previous season. With a lot of their players either being traded or retiring, the team relied on Wozy more than anyone to produce for them and actually get them into the playoffs, and with his prime years starting to run out he is going to need to work overtime if he wants to see the Chiefs win a cup with him in the lineup.

I'm nervous AF to be honest. Will I finally push on #1? I know my S44 was better than my S41.

10. (S37) D (Edmonton Blizzard) - Tor Tuck || +54
Grade: 92.90
Past Seasons: S43-93, S44-64
[Image: oCnvDsq.png]

Starting off the top-10 is Tor Tuck, Blizzard defenseman who has come into his own in a big way. S44 saw him with a career year, scoring 13 goals and 51 points, not to mention continuing his physical dominance with 110 hits. His two-way game has blossomed, and with a couple years left before regression even starts knocking, it is very likely that Tuck will be a contender as a top-10 player for seasons to come.

9. (S32) D (Winnipeg Jets) - Max Weber || -1
Grade: 93.50
Past Seasons: S36-74, S37-29, S38-12, S39-9, S40-31, S41-9, S42-12, S43-30, S44-8
[Image: xG7k55A.png]

At number 9 is Jets defenseman Max Weber, remaining a top-tier talent in the league despite his point totals dropping a bit. Weber scored 14 goals and 42 points, was +26, and was still solid in the two-way game even though he isn't as physical of a specimen as he has been in previous seasons. The Jets have really benefit from having him in the lineup, and he remains one of the best defenders in the league right now.

8. (S35) RW (Texas Renegades) - Louie Garrett || -5
Grade: 94
Past Seasons: S40-48, S41-42, S42-32, S43-16, S44-3
[Image: 3OfqyaH.png]

Louie Garrett comes in at number 8, his second straight top-10 ranking with his fourth 50+ point season in a row and fifth 20+ goal season in the last six seasons. Garrett has been the model of consistency on the Riot and the Renegades, and regardless of the strength of his teammates he has been able to produce. He scored 24 goals and 50 points, and even registered 128 hits (the second most of his career). He has all the tools and could definitely keep this up for at least another five seasons.

7. (S28) G (Toronto North Stars) - Michael McFadden || +34
Grade: 95
Past Seasons: S31-73, S32-73, S33-56, S34-58, S35-21, S36-26, S37-42, S38-16, S39-26, S40-21, S41-10, S42-13, S43-24, S44-41
[Image: IQoYqe8.png]

At 7 is Goaltender Michael McFadden, with one of the greatest individual seasons as a goaltender that we have ever seen. McFadden put the North Stars on his back in S44, going 29-13-2 and registering a .932 save percentage and 2.06 goals against average. Despite the team floundering in the playoffs McFadden was dominant, and even deep in regression he is still able to put up those kinds of numbers.

6. (S36) LW (Edmonton Blizzard) - Oisin Fletcher || +10
Grade: 96
Past Seasons: S40-86, S41-96, S42-95, S43-17, S44-16
[Image: f1CyyQe.png]

At 6 is Oisin Fletcher, his first ever top-10 ranking after being able to rebound from a not-so-great season in S43 (which was not-so-great due to the amazing season he had before where he scored 29 goals and 64 points). Fletcher scored 27 goals and 58 points in S44, was +22, and registered 124 hits, making him one of the most productive two-way wingers in the league last season. This is quite the response considering the ciriticism of all those players who requested out of New England last season, and it is clear that Fletcher is doing just fine despite that controversy.

5. (S32) RW (Minnesota Chiefs) - Terrance Nova || +1
Grade: 97.10
Past Seasons: S34-83, S35-28, S36-36, S37-56, S38-24, S39-15, S40-7, S41-45, S42-43, S43-31, S44-6
[Image: cJPDDxR.png]

Starting out the top-5 is Terrance Nova of the Minnesota Chiefs, another dominanting figure that has been arguably the most important piece of the Minnesota Chiefs franchise for the last 5 seasons. Nova has registered at least 40 points since his sophomore season, and in S43 he earned his first 60 point season in the SHL. In S44 he followed it up with more elite play, scoring 19 goals and 55 points, with 151 hits and minutes on both the powerplay and penalty kill.

4. (S31) D (Buffalo Stampede) - Alexis Metzler || -2
Grade: 97.30
Past Seasons: S36-66, S38-44, S39-35, S40-13, S41-33, S42-16, S43-4, S44-2
[Image: tXmqXdi.png]

At number 4 is Alexis Metzler, a defenseman who has been a top-10 player for the last three seasons, and going into S45 he is considered the number 1 defenseman of the entire pack. Metzler scored 9 goals and 46 points in S50, his fourth straight 40+ point season, and 7th in 8. Couple that play with his 169 hits, and there is no wonder why he is ranked as highly as he is with the seasons that he has been having in recent years.

3. (S31) C (Winnipeg Jets) - Jason Visser || -2
Grade: 98
Past Seasons: S36-49, S37-6, S38-4, S39-3, S40-28, S41-11, S42-1, S43-28, S44-1
[Image: iHYCFRE.png]

At 3 is a very familiar face, Jason Visser, who unfortunately once again surrendered his number 1 crown (he and Chris York are the only two current players with more than one number 1 ranking) but is still within the cusp of taking it again. Visser scored 19 goals and 47 points in S44, which is certainly a major drop from his 29 goals and 74 points a season prior, but not too unexpected all things considered. With his history being taken into account, don't be surprised if he scores 70 points in S45.

2. (S35) RW (Los Angeles Panthers) - Sophia Bennett || +5
Grade: 98.20
Past Seasons: S40-98, S41-54, S42-37, S43-21, S44-7
[Image: 1J64iqo.png]

At number two is Sophia Bennett f the Los Angeles Panthers, the second top-10 ranking of this veteran's career. Bennett has been one of the premier talents for Los Angeles, scoring 50+ points the last four straight. Bennett scored 22 goals and 56 points, right in line with the last few seasons, and with 144 hits (a career high) to boot.

1. (S34) RW (West Kendall Platoon) - Dani Forsberg || +4
Grade: 98.50
Past Seasons: S41-51, S42-38, S43-13, S44-5
[Image: PPq3ERG.png]

Hitting the number 1 spot for the top-100 is none other than Dani Forsberg, a winger who has seen his fair share of regular season and playoff success. Forsberg has scored 50+ points in the last five seasons straight, topping it off with his 22 goals and 53 points in S44. Not only that but his 234 hits was the most among all skaters, which is something you don't typically see with the stars in this league. Because of his two-way prowess, his physical dominance, and his consistency, he was an easy pick for the number one player in the top-100 this season.
