Mika Kandinsky Impresses In Round Robin of Prospect Showcase

The hype had been building for weeks for Mika Kandinsky to make his North American ice debut and at the S47 SMJHL Prospects Challenge, he’s made an immediate impact.  The speed and skill were on display from the get go for the young center hailing from Siberia, Russia.  If there was any time needed for him to adjust to the smaller ice, it was not noticeable to anyone paying attention.

In his first game with the Vipers he was held scoreless and ended with a +1.  He finished 26/37 in the face off dot which was very impressive in his first game.  It would have been nice to see him on the score sheet as he was doing everything else on the ice that day, but score.  However, there was no concern for the young skater.  He would soon be finding himself on the scoreboard in his next matchup vs the Blazers.

In game two, Mika was an absolute dynamic offensive force for the Vipers.  He found the score sheet with two goals and a blistering eight shots in the game.  If there was some doubt about his talents after game one, they were surely put to rest as the Russian center made himself known in the game early.  He ended 18/33 in the faceoff dot showing a little inconsistency there, but it didn’t matter for his overall game.  For what he lacked in the dot this night, he absolutely made up for it in the offensive and defensive zone playing a complete game.  The young budding star ended as the first start of the game.

After game two, the flood gates were opened for Mika.  The Vipers have been on a tear.  Mika is currently third on the team in points with 24 in 20 games.  He is also third in the entire prospect pool in points.  We knew he was looking to be a solid player but even now it seems we have underestimated his talents.  He has 10 goals and 14 assists showing that he doesn’t care how he gets a point, he just wants to get it.  Whether putting the puck in himself or finding the open man, Mika is doing it right to help his team win.  He was rewarded when he scored a hat trick for the first time in his professional career.  “It felt really good to score a hat trick and see all the hats coming down onto the ice after that.  I just keep playing my game and working hard and good things keep happening.  That’s what I bring to the rink every day and I’ll do that for whichever team decides to draft me on Tuesday.  I’m just looking to help my team win any way that I can.” Mika said.

Mika is showing that he has a great offensive prowess.  He is sporting a 12% shooting percentage.  His percentage is showing that he has a great shot and nose for the net while also taking a lot of shots.  Most of his points are coming at 5v5 as well so his stats aren’t being padded by power play time.  Mika also sports a +15 showing that he has been playing solidly in the defensive zone and the transition game.  His possession numbers look fantastic as well.  The stats just back up what everyone can see when they watch him.  He’s a dynamic two way center who makes his whole line better and his team better as a result.  He’s going to be a star at the SHL level and a no brainer pick for any team looking for a center.

Great read!

One thing I want to point out is that many users (like me) use the dark mode/theme on the forum.  When you copy and paste text into posts from other sources (even other posts on the board) the board makes the text default to black for some reason and users in dark mode can't read your post without highlighting the whole text.  If you highlight your post and hit the "Remove Formatting" button, screenshot below, it will default the color to the theme so all users can read it easily.  Feel free to ignore this though, just wanted to provide a tip!

How your post looks to me rn:

Remove formatting button, to the left of the star:
