"And with the eighth pick in the SMJHL Entry Draft, the St. Louis Scarecrows select, Noah Brusky, a defenseman from the United States!" The call came out from the podium and the fans in attendance went absolutely insane. When asked about the pick, one Crows fan was quoted as saying, "This kid is supposed to be big time, so it's awesome that St. Louis landed him with this pick!" With players being recalled to their SHL teams in the offseason, the Scarecrows were in desperate need of an infusion of youth to fill in those now empty spots on the roster, and the selection of Brusky in the first round certainly helps. His hard-nosed defensive style will certainly fit in on a Crows team that not only scored a ton of goals last season, but also loved to play the physical game. His selection is extra important due to the loss of last season's assistant captain on defense, Charlie Serpe, who was recalled to the New Orleans Spectres. Even the players in the locker room were excited when the heard that Brusky would be joining them in St. Louis. One of last year's highly touted rookies, right winger Barrett Blackwood, had this to say, "I heard that the dude is a real gym rat. Constantly working on his game. I also heard he's even getting some new equipment to get ready for being a pro. What's not to love about that?" It remains to be seen whether or not Brusky can develop into the star player that his selection in the first round would seem to imply, but joining a team with as much history of success as the Scarecrows certainly starts his journey on a good first step. Here's to hoping we have a future hall of famer on our hands!
