Live From the Draft caught up with Danny Marston, the S51 SMJHL Entry Draft's 13OA.

The 6'2" American Center is a fresh face to the SMJHL, and seems to glow with potential even as he teeters between suave charisma and antsy skittishness. The 21-year-old made small waves in the lead up to the draft as one of the championship-winning University of Minnesota Golden Gophers, with a 23-point season.


LFD: So how is it, being drafted for the SMJHL? Walk us through your experience.
DM: It's a rush, that's for sure. A lot of questions and running around.

LFD: I hope you don't mind more questions.
DM: Oh, not at all.

LFD: You went in Round Two to St. Louis. How do you feel?
DM: I talked to a few teams before the draft, but St. Louis wasn't one of them. I was a bit surprised. That said, talking to their organization now, everyone has been great. I'm excited to be a Crow!

LFD: Have you been to St. Louis before?
DM: I've been, once. I'm hoping this time'll be better, and that I'll get to see the Arch. Last time, I was kinda busy playing hockey.

LFD: What is your favorite personal moment in hockey?
DM: Other than getting drafted? Oh gosh... I think I'll go with my first shootout goal in little league. It was like a scene from "Mighty Ducks", a real slapper that just zipped past the goalie's ear and I watched it go. It was like slow-mo and everything.

LFD: What do you expect to be your biggest challenge this season?
DM: Just getting used to everything. I was talking to some of the guys from Front Office, and they were like, 'How do these numbers sound for your contract?' I had honestly forgot about that part. I've been telling a lot of the teams I've talked to this week, it's a lot to take in but I'm excited.

LFD: And one more question for you: What are your thoughts on pineapple as a pizza topping?
DM: I can't do it. Not just on pizza, I'm actually allergic to pineapple. Don't let me stop you, though.
