The Manhattan Amazing Race
#1
(This post was last modified: 01-08-2020, 12:44 PM by ImShiny.)

Its time again for another offseason for the Manhattan Rage. After falling short against the Hamilton Steelhawks, the captains of the Rage wanted to get the team together and keep morale high and the team working together. To do that they chose to do an amazing race throughout the city of New York. The prize of this event is going to be a gold trophy with the name of the players on the trophy plus the team name of the said winning team. For captains this year it was going to be David Vent, Barrett McCarthy, Alex Winters, and prospect Phineas Gold. Straws were drawn and the order of picking went McCarthy, Winters, Gold, Vent. The picking went and the teams were finalized.

Team “Jelly because Jam don’t shake like that” (A.K.A Barrett McCarthy’s team)
-Barrett McCarthy
-Derek Bohne Jr.
-Julien Villeneuve
-Reginald MacIntrye
-Craig Finley

McCarthy went with both the other prospects for his team and most of his team consisted of defensemen. McCarthy had high hopes for his team to do well. He believed he had a good overall mix of skills on his team with young and old.

Team “Otters” (A.K.A Alex Winter’s Team)
-Alex Winter
-Luke Thomason
-Rainbow Dash
-Sophia Bennett
-Scottey Crawfling

Winters went with people he was close with and knew he could get the job done with. Having some of the better athletes on the team gives him a more physical and speed advantage than other teams have.

Team “The Rat Pack” (A.K.A Phineas Gold’s Team)
-Phineas Gold
-Jax Aittokallio
-Goku Muerto
-David Kastrba
-Tokek Takshak

I honestly didn’t know who to choose. Everyone is so good at random skills and I’ve never really been to New York City, so I went with more of the other guys who had great communication skills and were great team players.

Team “No Regrets” (A.K.A David Vent’s Team)
-David Vent
-Andrej Doskocil
-Peter Larson
-James Dekens
-Matthew Auston

Vent honestly just picked his friends and was just hoping for a fun time. As other times were thinking strategically about who to pick, vent picked who he knew he would have the most fun with.

The race began in the hockey arena obviously. Sebastian Frost handed each team an envelope with their first clue and went over what each team would be doing. This was going to be a race not only about time but about how well each does at each location they will be attending. Teams will use taxis, Ubers, subway, etc, to get throughout the city. Each time had their own clue to go to a separate location so other people can’t cheat and hear each team talking. Frost wished each team good luck and began the race.
Team “Otters” walked away from the rest of the teams and began to open their envelope to get their first location. The clue stated, “Where the wild things grow”. There was collective silence as everyone thought about it when Thomason said out loud “Central Park? That has to be it” The team came to a collective yes and headed out to the central park. The team hauled over two taxis and headed straight towards the central park and was the first team on the move.
Team “The Rat Pack’s” clue read “The true heroes are rested here”. Takshak said the Statue of Liberty but the rest of the team said that didn’t make sense. Muerto then stated that “It could mean the 9/11 memorial”. The team agreed that was a better answer and headed for the subway to get to the memorial.

Team “Jelly because Jam don’t shake like that” were already on their way to times square. They hardly spent any time thinking about the clue which was “Where the lights are bright”. The team was excitedly chatting amongst themselves why McCarthy got the uber to the right place for them. As the car came to a stop the team thanked the driver and headed out to try and look for what they would be doing. As they walked through time square, they found a booth that had a Manhattan Rage logo on it. The team headed over there and met with the person who was running it.
“Welcome,” The lady said, “For your challenge, you guy are going to reenact famous movie scenes here in Times Square!” Every person apart of the team would have to be apart of at least 2 of the reenactments. There were a ton of scenes to choose from. The decision to go with the Titanic scene, The Chest Burst Scene from Alien, and the Captain My Captain scene from Dead Poet’s Society. Gold and Takshak got into a position to begin the reenactment of the Titanic scene as fans and onlookers began to crowd around and watch what was about to take place.

Team “No Regrets” had just got admission into the Metropolitan Art Museum. At the front desk, Vent asked the workers if there was a special place for them to go or if they had anything for them. Vent was then handed a sheet with blank names on it. The page had a bunch of different facts about different artworks that they would need to find out the name of. The easiest way for them to get this done would be to take a tour of the art museum or do the listening tour. Vent, Larson, and Dekens decided to do the walking tour while Doskocil and Auston did the listening tour together. That way they would be able to split up and cover more ground. Auston took a picture of the paper on his phone so they could keep track of what they needed and how much they got done. As the group broke off Larson was asked to sign some autographs by some young fans and the other two joined in for a picture with some fans.

Team “Otter’s was currently running around central park trying to get as many selfies as they could with whatever pets, they could find. They currently had 5 minutes left and the team was running all over. As the time was up all of their phone alarms went off and they headed towards the booth to see how well they did.

At the 9/11 museum Team “The Rat Pack” was currently finishing up a walking tour around the museum. As the tour ended the team was handed a trivia sheet and had to answer all the questions as best they could. The team quickly wrote down the answers they thought were correct and handed it back towards the lady. She handed the envelope and took the trivia sheet back towards the front desk. Team Rat Pack opened the envelope and quickly headed towards the exit to get to the next location.

The teams raced around New York city to many different spots trying to get their activities done while learning more and more about the city the players call home. The sun was currently starting to set, and two teams were in the home stretch to try and be the first team to complete the race. Team “Jelly because Jam don’t shake like that” and Team “The Rat Pack” were racing back towards the arena to be the first team back. The Rat Pack was currently all squished into a taxi telling the driver to go as fast as he could to get back. Team Jelly was on the subway chatting amongst themselves about all the places they had visited. Finley and MacIntrye had both really enjoyed the 9/11 museum and found it very informational for viewers. Bohne’s favorite part was the central park challenge and getting to see all pets roaming around the park and getting pictures with them. As the subway came to a spot the team tried to quickly get out and head above ground to make it back to the arena.

Team Otters was currently stuck in the Metropolitan Museum of Art trying to complete the trivia sheet. The team may have not chosen to do the tours and instead tried to complete the sheet with using their phones to look up answers. That was currently not working, but the team did get some other people to help them with some of the questions so they were on their way back to the arena to try and salvage as much time as they could.

Team No Regrets was currently having regrets. Times Square was packed now, and they were not getting anywhere with their movie scenes. They couldn’t decide on a final movie scene because everyone had such great ideas. They chose to just ask a random fan what they think they should do the Follow the Yellow Brick Road scene. The players thought this was a fantastic idea and added some fans into the scene to get everyone involved and having a good time. The scene was recorded, and the team was told they were to head back to the arena to finish.

McCarthy and his team had just rounded the corner and were headed to the main entrance of the stadium when they saw Phineas Gold walk up right next to them. The two teams got to talking and decided on how they should end the race. A gold old fashion foot race. Both captains would partake in this race and get ready waiting for the mark to go. The anticipation was through the roof. Everyone was watching with such intent. The mark could happen at any moment now. To bad the marker was Takshak and completely was not paying attention. Kastrba went up and hit Takshak on the back of the head to get his attention and Takshak quickly apologized and set the race off. Gold and McCarthy took off towards the entrance. Gold had the lead at the start, but McCarthy was soon gaining on the young forward. They were at the halfway mark and they were neck in neck. As they came closer and closer McCarthy began to break away from Gold and take the lead. Gold pushed with everything he had but it wasn’t enough to keep up with the senior captain. McCarthy reached the entrance first. Sebastian Frost was waiting for both players to get to him. When McCarthy got to Frost, Frost congratulated the captain and told him the big news.

“SECOND PLACE? WHO BEAT US?” Exclaimed McCarthy.

Just then Team “Otters” came out of the arena. McCarthy and Gold could not believe their eyes. They could have sworn they were the closest to winning but it turns out Team “Otters” literally drove up to the entrance in an Uber and won the race. Not soon after getting to the entrance Team “No Regrets” came up behind the rest of the teams laughing their asses off about the journey they had gone through. Sebastian Frost got in front of everyone and began to announce the winners for the amazing race.

“First I would like to congratulate all the teams for a job well done today. This event was put together to get you guys to work together but also have a little fun and learn about the city you call home. As you may recall I said this race was not just about speed but about how well you complete the activities you would have to do. Now time for the winners.  In Fourth place with 78 points Team “No Regrets” Vent and his team high fived each other and congratulated each other for having an amazing time together.
“Third place belongs to Team Jelly because Jam don’t shake like that with getting 83 points. And finally, first place. The winners of our first amazing race and the winners of the trophy is………..

Team “Otters” with 94 points!”  Team “Otters” exploded with cheers as the other teams clapped for their victory. Team" The Rat Pack" had finished with 89 points to get second place. Winters and his team went to the front and all got together for a picture with the trophy and then raised it in the air high and proud. All the players began to recount their days with one another’s and the great information they learned. As the sun went down and the moon came out. The players began to head to the cars to return home for the night. Everyone said their goodbyes and once against congratulated Team “Otters” on their victory. When Vent got home, he texted with Kastrba and McCarthy how the amazing race was a huge success. Everyone had loved it and that he was excited for the other team bonding activities the captains had planned for the summer.
