Once again the 3 proud nations of Russia, Czech Republic, and Latvia have the opportunity to team up together. The last time these nations combined the team lost to team World in the Bronze medal game, however this time we have much bigger expectations. It was not exactly an easy player selection process for @Winstobick and myself, but without further ado lets meet the S51 UCORCAL WJC roster.
Forwards
#67 Jan Zacha @StaticShocked Center - Czech Republic Jan Zacha is a big pass first Center for Czech Republic, he was 5th among Centers in the SMJHL in points and tied for 10th overall in assists. Zacha is one of the most complete Centers in the world with no holes in his game. Zacha will be getting a lot of looks especially on the special team units were his versatility will be able to shine. #7 Jakub Bruchevski Center - Russia Jakub Bruchevski is a WJC Gold Medalist sniping Center from St. Petersburg Russia. While not having a great 4th season for St. Louis Jakub turned it up for the playoffs averaging over a point per game and is 4th in the SMJHL in face off percentage. Bruchevski was an Alternate Captain for the Scarecrows this season and will bring leadership and clutch scoring to the team. #26 Sasha Dangelcheck @acdangel Right Wing - Czech Republic Sasha Dangelcheck is a hard hitting power forward from the Czech Republic. Sasha is known for throwing his body around and regularly recording the most amount of hits on his team for a forward. Sasha who is the other Alternate Captain in St. Louis lead all forwards in hits this season. Dangelcheck brings big time defensive skill along with a sense of fearlessness to the team, Dangelcheck's defense first approach will help greatly balancing out the team. #56 Aron Hernadivic @"jfisherr" Left Wing - Czech Republic Aron Hernadivic is a playmaking forward from the Czech Republic, Aron is the Captain of the St. Louis Scarecrows and was tied for 3rd on the team in points. While Hernadivic is known for his pass first offensive play, he's also solid in the defensive zone. Hernadivic will be a great asset on the Power Play feeding the team's dangerous goal scorers while also being a threat to score himself. #14 Ivan Maximus @thiefofcheese Center - Russia Everyone's favorite cheese stealing Russian, Ivan Maximus is a playmaking Center hailing from Russia. While not a goal scoring threat Maximus has a great two way game, and is third in the SMJHL in face off percentage. Maximus brings a good pass first play in the offensive zone while being able to lock down opposing players in the defensive zone. #77 Andrei Petrikov @mdubz Left Wing - Russia The quick two way Russian forward Andrei Petrikov joins the team after a very successful season in Anchorage. Petrikov's team won the Four Star Cup, while Petrikov was 8th in points scored from Left Wingers. Petrikov brings quickness off the wing which translates to a lot of breakaway opportunities both in 5v5 and penalty kill situations. #13 Alexei Rykov @RaginCajun Left Wing - Russia Where to begin with Rykov? A two time Four Star Cup Champion, a WJC Gold medalist, 2nd in points scored from Left Wingers, the Russian sniper is as deadly as he is successful. Rykov is a 20+ a year goal scorer while still getting 20+ assists and also is responsible in his own zone. It's obvious to see what he brings to the team, offensive firepower and the drive to win. #3 Starcimir Petrovic @"AtlasHunter" Center - Czech Republic Starcimir Petrovic is a massive 6-5 playmaking Center from the Czech Republic. Petrovic while not a massive goal scoring threat posts up in front of the net and is almost impossible to move out of the way. Petrovic is a monster in the face off circle with an average 58% win rate. Petrovic adds a lot of strength to this team and will be a great help of clogging shooting lanes and screening opposing goalies. #18 Ruslan Zaporozhets @CptSquall Left Wing - Czech Republic Ruslan is a dangerous sniper from Ukraine but plays for the Czech after transferring there a season or two ago. Zaporozhets made a name for himself has he lead all rookies in goals last season, and was 10th in scoring among Left Wingers. Where Zaporozhets really shines is on the Power Play were he scored 8 on the man advantage which was good enough to be tied for 2nd in the league. Having Ruslan means every team should be shaking when we go on the Power Play. #27 Indigo Trevino @Carbine Right Wing - Lativa Our first Latvian player is Power Forward Indigo Trevino. Trevino is a good points producer on the power play while having decent defensive stats as well. Considering we have a lot of scorers and playmakers on the team it's good to have a player like Trevino who will go to the dirty zones and grind for the puck, while being able to hold his own on the offensive side. #00 Cyril Vyskoc @artermis Center - Czech Republic Rookie sniper Cyril Vyskoc had a very good good rookie season in the SMJHL, finding himself 6th in rookie scoring with 25 points. Vyskoc will be a big time scoring threat playing somewhere in the bottom 2 lines. We hope that Vyskoc will build on his impressive debut season and contribute with some depth scoring. #41 Simothy Drunkebird @Esso2264 Center - Czech Republic Coming off being the number one pick in the S52 SHL draft is Simothy Drunkebird, Drunkebird showed some very good potential in manning the 3rd line for the Raptors. While not really an offensive threat the power forward had an impressive 73 hits and 6th in face off percentage. Drunkebird gives us some depth in the forward position as another player who is more focused on defense then offense. #91 Bale @Wallflower Right Winger - Lativa Another rookie, this time it's right winger sniper Bale. Bale didn't really have not worthy 1st season but he did only play 16 games this season. Bale will be given the chance to really show his skill with CORCAL and he are excited to see potential this young rookie has in him. #66 Lucifer Morningstar @Kakulacis Center - Latvia Our last forward on the roster is another rookie from Latvia. Morningstar had a respectable rookie season scoring 6 points and 16 hits in 40 games. Like the other rookies the talent is there we just have to figure out how to harness it. Also there have been some strange rumors that Lucifer Morningstar is the devil himself but I don't believe it. Defense
#29 Derek Wolfe Jr @wumaduce Defense - Russia Big Two Way Defenseman Derek Wolfe Jr has been a leading presence on the Blue line for awhile now, and he returns once again to provide a big checking body to lead the defense. Wolfe Jr is a solid passer while being a force in the defense zone. #2 Jakob Hamr @TomHanks Defense - Czech Republic Another big 6-5 defenseman this time the Czech Republic, Jakob Hamr is defense 1st type of defender that every team needs to have. He won't get out muscled off the puck or get pushed around along the boards. Hamr is a key piece to our defense and we are happy to have him. #11 Alex Petrenko @traphag Defense - Russia Another big time Russian defenseman who is also a two way forward. Petrenko is different from Wolfe Jr and Hamr in the fact that Petrenko packs a big offensive punch. Alex is good defensively and has the ability to Quarterback the Power Play. Alex is a big time player and a someone I think will have a big tournament. #6 Sergei Killingyouguy @Rididienn Russia - Defense Rookie #12 Vladmir Khristororzhdestvensk @FirePlaceWallHeater Russia -Defense Rookie #44 Valentin Kalashnikov @suavemente Russia - Defense Rookie Finishing out the defense is a trio of newly created Russians, this will be their first test in SHL/SMJHL action but I'm confident they will be up to the task. Goalies
#82 Mike Hronch @Jabs Goalie - Czech Republic Standing at a massive 7-6 Mike Hronch is a brick wall in net. It's not just his size either that's impressive but his quick reaction time and reflexes. Hronch will get his chance to shine once again in the WJC, and will be one of the toughest netminders to beat. #20 Samat Beibitzhanov @Duff101 - Russia Standing at just 5-11 Beibitzhanov is the Russian representative between the pipes. While not being the quickest to react once he does he's a black hole. Samat is known for rarely ever getting rebounds and when he does they are land far away from the opposing team. I believe Samat will make a strong case to start as we look towards the round robin games. This is the team we are sending the to WJC this season and I have all the belief in the world that we have a strong chance to be playing for gold, we are very balanced with great scores, 2 way players, strong and physical defense and great goalies. NOW LETS GO WIN GOLD!!!
