Well, it's already playoff time in my rookie season and it's all hands on deck right now. We had a bit of a cold finish to the season which hurt extra hard as a result of the incredibly tight standings this year. We finished on a three-game losing streak which was a bit of a wake-up call after we cruised through most of the season towards the top of the charts. We still all believe in our team and our underlying stats but to say dropping from second to fourth in the last week was a disappointment would be an understatement. Right now we're all focused on putting that behind us and focusing on what's ahead in our pursuit of the four-star cup.
As far as what I'm up to, well as the backup I should ideally be on the ice for as little an amount of time as possible. I'm still keeping sharp but have been trying to put myself forward more than usual as the team hypeman. While I'm no Outlungus I think I'm doing a decent job getting the guys' spirits going.
Practices have been especially focused on our five on five and offensive systems. Generating high danger chances will be key if we're to get past Vancouver and their red hot goaltending. No matter what the result is it's going to be a hard-fought series if our previous matchups this year have anything to say about it. They're a team we respect and have to respect if we want to stand up to the task. It's going to be a lot of hard tough play over the next while to grind out those victories. We're expecting that and we're pretty sure the Whalers are too.
Playoff hockey is always such a different beast from the rest of the year and the belief in the room is that we are set to make a deep push this year. We're all functioning as a complete unit and with the way we're going we think there's no reason that trophy shouldn't have our name written all over it.
