Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to the second edition of the Timber Team Awards - S54 Edition. As a franchise individual awards are something that we feel is important to recognise individual excellence that together makes this the best place to play. Tonight, we will be presenting 6 Awards: Leadership, Rookie, Forward, Defender - each named after a franchise alumni who excelled in the position the award is being named, a team MVP, and one more at the end of the evening’s presentation.
First off the board is the Atlas Rush (@Rublic) award named for the best leader both on and off the ice, nominated by their peers. The nominees are: Valentin Kalashnikov - Cap finished his first season wearing the C for the Timber. The team has been molded around him and he is truly a fearless leader who instills terror on all opponents when his presence is felt on the ice. Alexander Roach - Newly minted assistant captain. Roach’s presence has been a guiding hand to the team - being a visible presence in the media and in the LR, always willing to lend a hand discussing builds, banter or laying the body out on the ice Rikard Bjerg - Rikard joined up at the end of S53 and played out the last 12 games of the season as a DFA. Maine really liked what they saw and spent little time acquiring him in the last draft using their first round, second overall pick on this stud. That pick aged extremely well and he was recently taken first overall in the SHL draft, joining a pretty elite group of franchise firsts in MAS, Barron, and Dash. The winner of the Atlas Rush award is … Valentin Kalashnikov! Congrats Cap! Come and get your hardware. @suavemente Best Rookie is named after Rainbow Dash (@Eggy216) - the first Timber / Raider to go 1oa in the SMJHL draft. Truly an exceptional Rookie, and top prospect across the board. The nominees are: Adrik Baranov - Adrik came in as a mid round pick and set his sights on being the best rushing defenseman in the league. His rookie campaign saw him post 21 points in an anemic offense and really change the defensive dynamic giving a truly Paul Coffey feel from the point. Alexander Oscarsson - Part of the Alex line with Roach and Sutton. This heavy shot winger hailing from Sweden made the leap last season and did not miss a stride. Accumulating 18 points in 15 minutes on ice, this is a face that will be gracing the points and goals leaderboard for the next few seasons. Rikard Bjerg - Ice Bjerg came in as a highly touted prospect and grew to the role of a very responsible defender. He continued to grow at a phenomenal rate and his name was quickly known to all teams in the league. Not missing a beat he improved his 2oa draft position to the only higher spot in 1oa in the recent SHL draft. The winner of the Rainbow Dash award is … Rikard Bjerg! @AgentSmith630 Esa Parmborg (@Steelhead77). Award for the top forward. The candidates are: Lucas Hellquist - 32 points and a ton of ice time, Lucas was a staple on the top line. Evolving his game to accommodate being more of a shooter his offense was noticed whenever his was on the ice. Alexander Roach - 32 points as well for Roach, matching Hellquist’s total. Much of the offense came off a Roach pass and he is known for wearing down opponents in the offensive zone before threading a pass through a jungle of sticks and skates to an open Timber. Kyle Sutton - Slowly adapted into the role of a sniper. Someone to get pucks to the net after some great setup from one of the Centers - whether it was Cobb, or Roach Sutton was indiscriminate on who got him the puck, just get him the puck. The winner of the Esa Parmborg award is … Alex Roach! @Faelax The final award that was voted on by the team members is the top defender award. Dominic Montgomery (@bilbo). The Nominees are: Valentin Kalashnikov - Valentin is one of the premier defenders in the league. He has just finished his 3rd season in the Juniors, and when any opponent sees Maine on their schedule they take notice - not because it will be a particularly offensive game, but because they are going to get hit, and get hit a lot. Cap leads the way and is one of the meanest opponent on the ice. Will Windsor - Lead the league in blocked shots by a mile. He also missed some ice time earlier in the season, so not only did he blow away the rest of the league, but he did it with less games played. Truely a black hole for any pucks when he was on the ice. Mikkel Asmus Sondergard - MAS completed his sophomore season with the Maine fearsome D. He was utilized as a top defender, and as a PK specialist where he thrived, and helped Maine wield one of the best Penalty Kills in the league. He blasted into the league and has shown absolutely no sign of slowing down - the sky is the absolute limit for the first ever Timber draft pick. The winner of the Dominic Montgomery award is … Will Windsor! @Allegiant The team MVP is decided on by the coaching staff and management. Like last season, this award was discussed at length before we were able to come to an agreement between Tomas and myself. We had another down season, but we had many bright spots and we have shown trending in the right direction. Managing to take the reins on full time and go out every night and face down a blizzard of rubber is absolutely tiresome, but this player soldiered through and put up numbers among the best in the league. We love having our quirky goalie and are thrilled to see more of the same in the future. The S54 MVP for the Maine Timber is Leo Bloomfield! @BloomeyGB Now we have one final award that we have decided to include this season. This will be a permanent fixture for future awards as well, but it will not be handed out every season, rather it will be handed out when we deem a worthy recipient. The award will be named after the first ever recipient. We wanted to thank this player for showing amazing dedication to the franchise, this player worked tirelessly to help improve the team on the ice, in the club house and could always be counted on to bring a positive twist when spirits were low. My only regret is that we weren’t able to call out his name on the draft floor. You are going to do great in your new role with Quebec City. You have made a lasting impact with our franchise and you will continue to sew greatness up there. Best of luck and I look forward to competing with you from the opposing bench. The Alexander Roach Award, @Faelax I want to take a moment to say thank you to all of the members who participated in voting. Congratulate all of the nominees for being recognised as these were all extremely tight races this season. Can’t wait until I’m back for the S55 iteration, now let’s put a strong skate forward and turn our fortunes around on this league! Thank you, Hans.
