“Tjenare! Hey friends!” Freyja waves happily at the camera. She wears a Team Sweden sweater and a broad smile. “I’ve been very busy making preparations for the upcoming draft, lots of meetings with teams and talking with scouts. I’m feeling quite good about things, but we will have to see what the teams think of me.” She reaches out of frame, grabbing a fishbowl full of colorful paper scraps. “To pass the time while we wait, I will answer some of your questions! My friend has been taking your questions and saving them up from this week, and I will answer a few of them now.” She shakes the bowl, watching the scraps shift and settle. She reaches in and selects one. “Our first question is from Contella101, who says ‘Hey Freyja, what would you do if you could not play hockey?’ What would Freyja Hellström be without hockey? I certainly cannot imagine. Hockey has been a part of my life since I was very small. I think I was on skates as soon as I was old enough to stand, you know. What do you think I should be if I could not play hockey? Should I be a teacher? Or maybe a race car driver? Perhaps I should be the prime minister? You can let me know in the comments what you think. Before I wanted to be a hockey player, I think I wanted to be a dragon. Which is maybe an impractical goal, but you cannot talk a little girl out of her dreams.” “From Baltipony, ‘How do you manage to be so fast on the ice?’ I am quite quick, and I think that simply comes down to practice. Once you have been doing something for a very long time, it becomes easy to do it quickly. I have been skating for basically all my life, so I know how to move on skates very well. I am also a bit smaller than others, so it is easy for me to skate on ahead. I can build up speed in a smaller area. I am built more like a speed skater than a hockey player, perhaps. If you want to get faster, I think you must practice quite a bit, making sure you have a good stance and that you are using your arms effectively.” “Our next question is from SalmonKix! They ask ‘Do you have any lucky charms that help you win?’ This is a fun question. I know that some of my teammates have things that they believe bring them luck or make them play better. The mental game is important, so if there are items that make you feel good, why not have them, you know? One of my best friends from school had a lucky hat, which I always found particularly amusing. She would never wear a hat usually, but if she needed a bit of luck, no matter how hot it was, she would wear this big black winter hat. For me though, I prefer to make my own luck, not take it from something else. You will see I wear a necklace under my jersey, my own little Brísingamen if you like. But this is not so much for luck. It was a gift from my mother before her passing, so it is a way for her to be there with me when I play.” She gives the bowl another shake before selecting another scrap of paper. “Next from FuzzyLamp45, ‘Why have you decided to enter the SMJHL draft?’ Well, as I said, hockey has been part of who I am for a very long time, and I want to be able to compete at the highest level. So entering this draft is the first step to getting where I would like to be. I am excited to play with new teammates and continue to hone my craft in a new environment. I think I will learn a lot from the coaches in the SMJHL as well, so I am quite happy to be making this step. I am excited to be able to take you all along on the journey as well.” “Our next question is ‘Which team do you want to draft you?’ from edfingn. There are so many good teams that it is hard to narrow it down to one. I feel that I had very good conversations with four new teams, so I would put them towards the top of my list. Those would be Carolina, Nevada, Quebec City and Newfoundland. I also got to spend the last part of the season in Maine, and I am fond of the people there, so I would be happy to return there if they would like to have me. This is not to say I would not be content in going to a team I have not mentioned, it is simply that these teams have shown the most interest. But regardless who drafts me, I plan to be a very good selection and will make the best of the opportunities afforded to me. I am a team player, so I would like to contribute to the best of my ability. I am trying to be patient, but it still feels like the draft is an eternity away. But we shall see what happens.” “We will do maybe two more questions, I think.” She says as she sticks her hand into the fishbowl once more, pulling out a hot pink paper. “Our friend SonOfCarl1397 asks ‘Are you excited to play for the IIHF Swedish team?’ I am very excited about that opportunity! I have had a chance to meet with some of the members of that team already, and they have been so very kind and welcoming. The team very much feels like family, and I will be honored to take the ice with them when it is my time! There are many players there currently with more talent, so I will need to be dedicated to improving to take a spot there someday. For now, I am happy to take up the role of captain of the fan club.” “Our final question is from GoalieLover669, who asks ‘Where do you see yourself in 5 years?’ The simple answer is playing hockey in the SHL. I want to be in a position to contribute to a professional team and to be working to be at the very top of the sport. By that time I think I will have grown as a player and as a person quite a bit, and I hope to be able to look back on those five years and be proud of the efforts I have put in. I think as long as I am still working to be the best that I can be, I will be happy. I would like to have traveled to at least 5 new countries as well.” “I think that is all that I have time for today!” She says, setting the fishbowl down out of frame. “Thank you for taking the time to ask questions! It is always a pleasure to hear from my audience. I am happy to be able to take you along with me as I make the transition into the SMJHL and beyond, so please look out for future videos from me as well! If there is interest, maybe I will be back next week for a draft review. Okay friends, thank you and goodbye! Hej så länge!” She smiles and waves before the end card appears reminding you to like and subscribe.
