Our biggest rival right now is probably the Baltimore Platoon. We are on similar levels of TPE and always fighting for that 2nd to last spot. I might also say New england wolfpack, because they are also divisional rivals and the general managers have a shared history. They are probably far and away better than we are, but there are times when games are close. There's also the incident where we traded goalies and new england blamed the goalie they received for their poor performance. Or something, i hardly remember. At any rate, being in the same division is a pretty automatic rivalry, unless that team is scoring 10 goals on you all the time, which is why we are not rivals with manhattan. Its impossible to say we are anyone's true rival, since we have not been in the playoffs with the team as it stands, so there's been no spoiling or tough series to remember, its all regular season stuff.
Don’t know what the big rival of the Texas Renegade is now a day. In the old days it was pretty much the Calgary Dragons, but this has cold down long time ago. Now a days it should be the Los Angeles Panthers, because they are the biggest rival in our division, but I have played for so many seasons in Los Angeles with my first player that I still love them. Maybe I should hate Edmonton for kicking us out 4-0 in the last playoffs, but no there is no feeling of rivalry against them. So how could be my biggest rivalry? Somehow its another team out of our division, the New Orleans Specters. I never got warm with the franchise since they joined the league via expansion draft and that didn’t change, but it got worse when I got drafted to Texas and they destroyed us so many times. But the wind has changed and it’s now our turn to destroy them and get a sweet revenge.

I honestly don't know if the Seattle Argonauts have a real rival yet, if at all. My first thought was the Atlanta Inferno due to the fact that both teams are expansion teams, however, with the Inferno going a different route compared to the Argonauts and competing early, I don't really know if we can call them true rivals considering we'll probably be competing when the other team is rebuilding/retooling. Maybe Winnipeg or Minnesota if I REALLY had to find a rival? I really don't think there are any rivalries out there for Seattle given the state that the team is in currently. We're still a really young team that's lacking history and playoff appearances and all the fancy jingles where people normally discover who their rival team is. I guess for now I will just leave Winnipeg as my answer to satisfy the PT's requirements. They are in our division and a team we've traded blows with time and time again, and both teams haven't really been able to completely dominate the other.
it is not even close. I am not even sure anyone else in would agree with me, @JayWhy would have my back I am sure. They are the team that we clashed with a lot with in the period where we were starting to compete, and my first few seasons in the SHL, this would have been late 40s, early 50s. They are helmed by a pair of excellent but also perfect to set yourself against GMs, Fin being one of the great heel's of the league in general, and truly amazing at roster construction, and Tomen was in the sths era THE STHS guy, testing the shit out of what you were doing to eck out that win % (until the dark times of course). They beat us twice in the conference final and once in the 2nd round, and we managed to edge past them during our Championship run just before we closed the book on STHS.
Helps that they managed to grab a pair of great FA users from us, while also just setting the pace for what it takes to be a successful team since I started following and playing in the league.
@buffelo, I am sure we are not your rivals, but I enjoy treating you as mine!
The Tampa Bay Barracuda, while being active for a long time by virtue of technically being an original team, has not had the rivalry history to back it up. It's only in recent years the Barracuda have found a true rivalry in their division. I consider the Barracuda to have two main rivals:
Firstly, the Baltimore Platoon. When the Seattle Riot relocated to Tampa Bay, their immediate biggest rival was the West Kendall Platoon, which made sense: both teams were based in Florida for christ's sake. Even after the Platoon relocated to West Kendall, they still share a huge rivalry to this day, especially as both teams improve.
The other rival in my eyes is the Atlanta Inferno. The newest kid on the block, Atlanta and Tampa Bay are fairly similar: both are improving teams that have potential aspirations of being consistent playoff contenders. Also given their relative proximity, they also make a good local rival.
Oh lord. Can I say an entire division? The Great Lakes division is just absolutely stacked and I’ve hated each and every team within it the most at some point in my career. It seems like there’s always an arms race going on within the division and rarely is any team in a rebuild or bad. It’s a slug fest and any team can beat each other on any given night. There’s always a bit of extra fire in divisional games because of this. Before the playoff rework, it also seemed a bit unfair about the first round divisional matchup since a Great Lakes team would always get the first wild card and play another Great Lakes team. It was truly nerve wracking trying to secure a playoff spot that would be clear of having to play in the first round against a tough divisional opponent. I’d pay a large amount of money to never see any of their logos again tbh.
Rivalries in the J are perhaps more of a fickle thing then the SHL, due to constant roster turnover and the fact that it's more difficult for teams to maintain a constantly high level of success. That being said, I think from an NL perspective, our biggest rivals would be CAR. The two teams have been on pretty much the same trajectory since the switch to FHM: a slightly down season gearing up for championship windows, followed by 3 seasons of high success, and back to rebuilding now. In fact, from S54-S56, both teams were #1 and #2 in the east each season, with NL 2 and 1 point above CAR in the first two seasons, and CAR 3 points ahead of NL in the latter. Ultimately though, rivalries are made in the playoffs, and this is no exception. Seasons 54 and 55 saw the teams meet up in the semi-finals, both series going to 7 games. In the end, the success was split 1-1, and each time the winner ultimately went on to win the cup.
Historically, the San Francisco Pride’s biggest league rival has been the Los Angeles Panthers. It’s a natural rival as both teams battle for supremacy in the state of California. Recently, the Pride have not had much in the way of rivalries because the team has not been competitive. It makes sense that the Pride will eventually have some Southwest Division rivals when the team gets competitive again. It could be that Los Angeles will reemerge as the Pride’s division rival or if Texas or New Orleans will be more competitive matchups. As the team continues to improve, natural rivals will surely emerge through difficult playoff matchups. Other teams in the West that are constantly in the playoffs are teams like Calgary and Edmonton, both teams could eventually be Pride rivals if there are any big time playoff matchups and bad blood develop between the teams. Seattle could be another team that hits its peak in a similar timeframe as the Pride and become playoff rivals.
I have not been a part of New England for long, so I can't really speak to any rivalries the team has had in the past. I do think that a rivalry will form with the Tampa Bay Barracuda. Since both teams are in the midst of a rebuild, it is easy to see both teams emerging from their rebuilds near the same time. With that in mind both teams would be battling for the Challenge Cup around the same time, leading to a heated rivalry. Both teams are on track to be competitive for the forgeable future, so a long bout between the teams makes sense. It will be interesting to see which team will be more successful over the course of the next 20 seasons or so. This is still speculation, as neither team has reached a state to consistently compete in the playoffs. Despite this I do believe that this rivalry will be real.
Edmonton has a few rivals I imagine. Main one for us is Calgary. The beef isn't toxic, but I think its a nice friendly rivalry. It also has a nice Red v Blue combo and we both are consistent playoff teams in our conference with top tier players. So its more history than anything. I imagine Luke can tell me how often we faced each other, but its whatever. I am not going to look that up. I will say our other rival is NOLA because I legitimately hate to lose to NOLA in the playoffs. Like they beat us a few times in the playoffs and it just kills me. The controversy around them over the last few seasons does add some fuel, but they have knocked us out before then, and it doesn't add much fuel to it for me. Losing to them is like losing to HAM. I just get a tad tired of it.
The Chicago Syndicates biggest rival in the league would have to be the Buffalo Stampede. They share a division, are relatively close in location, and they end up more often then not playing them in really close games. Last seasons was a good marker and indication for that, as the Stampede were dead to rights against the Syndicate, being down 3-0 in the first round. Never-the-less, the Stampede came roaring back and pulled off what is seldom seen, in the reverse sweep. The games were all really close, with a few overtimes amongst them. This is something that can only been seen in a rivalry like this one. They fight back and forth all season, for one team to just come over the top with a knockout punch. With this however, the Syndicate need to step up there game against Buffalo, as they have been handled by them as of late. If this trend continues, you might see a change from Rival to just being beaten down. That is never a good change, but it is something that can happen, when a team just has your number. I'd say it is close to Buffalo just pulling away and leaving the Chicago Syndicate in their dust.
Those damned New England Wolfpack. Following in the Tampa Bay Barracuda footsteps of rebuilding while we are trying to do the same. Now both of us are competing for the same crop of players. Thankfully, due to the great skill of the Barracuda leadership, it is quite obvious who will top this little rivalry that has started to build over the last few seasons. Even though it seemed the Wolfpack were going to start to throw, they didn't do it quite as well as we did for the first 0-50 season! In that aspect, we definitely top this little rivalry that has just started to brew in my noggin! Mark my words, the Tampa Bay Barracuda will snuff out any opposition in the coming seasons. Starting with these mangy muts up in the North East! Once they have been rocked, the rest of the league will tremble with fear of how we crushed our rival team who started to tank!
