For my first Deep Dive, I'm going to be covering my team, the Carolina Kraken's, draft. I think sve7en, overdoo, and management knocked it out of the park with this one. The already solid Kraken added some phenomenal young pieces to their great core to set them up for success this season and in the coming seasons. So without further ado, let's get into it.
The Trade (Part 1) In the 58 SMJHL Draft Lottery prior to the draft, the third place overall in S57 Kraken moved up to the second overall pick. Shortly after Newfoundland picked Aleksandrs Balcers first overall, the always exciting words were loudly exclaimed: we have a trade. That's right, the Kraken traded the second overall pick. Already owning the 3rd overall pick from Nevada and their own pick at 7th overall, the Colorado Raptors made a move to acquire the 2nd overall pick. In exchange, Carolina received the 11th and 43rd pick in the draft, as well as a 2nd round pick in the next draft. With this pick, Colorado drafted Right Wing Fedor Sotakov. This won't be the last trade the Kraken make this draft. With the 11th pick, the Kraken select... Center Daud Ramza Here we have the first pick of the draft for the Kraken, at 11th overall acquired from Colorado. Carolina really knocked it out of the park with this one. TPE wise, Daud Ramza, user Blasoon, is currently 5th in the class with 249 TPE. Everyone above him in TPE had already been picked. Daud Ramza is a center with evenly distributed attributes in offense, defense, and skating. Blasoon is a great guy in the locker room, and is the GM for the Orange County Otters in the International Simulation Football League. He will almost certainly stay active and max earn, and will likely have a great career in the SHL. The Trade (Part 2) Told you this won't be the last trade. After the Anchorage Armada select Utyosov Toyesfki with the 23rd pick, the words are said again: we have a trade. Carolina sends the 32nd and 43rd (acquired from Colorado) overall picks to Newfoundland Beserkers for the 24th overall pick. With the 24th pick, the Kraken select... Left Wing Cormac Pónaire Here we have another great pick by the Kraken. Comrac Pónaire, user wumaduce, is currently 23rd in the class with 225 tpe. Wumaduce is also active and a great presence to have in the locker room. Cormac Pónaire so far is a two way forward more focused on defense. He will be physical and a great offensive and defensive piece for the Kraken. Wumaduce hasn't missed any TPE, and is showing no signs of stopping. Moving on now... With the 27th overall pick, the Kraken select... Left Wing Twelve Forty-Seven Fifteen This is the Kraken's first selection with their own pick, and with it they select Twelve Forty-Seven Fifteen, user 124715, commonly referred to as Numbers. A late create just before the draft, Numbers currently sits 45th in the class with 196 tpe. I sound like a broken record, but Numbers is also commonly in the locker room and a fun guy to have around. Numbers is an offensive forward, focused on speed and getting open to use his lightning quick slapshot. As mentioned before, Numbers created right before the draft and therefore missed out on some TPE, but he is still on a great pace. With the 39th pick, the Kraken select... Left Wing Aleks Blixtstrom Finally, I got to hear my name called. With Aleks Blixtstrom, I currently have the 36th most TPE in the class at 213, with more on the way. I am very active in the locker room, and I'm sure my teammates are getting a bit sick of me talking their ears off. I currently have my TPE balanced between offense, defense, and skating. Not to toot my own horn, but I think this pick is already and going to continue looking like a steal. Most of the players picked around me are behind in TPE, as I've only missed out on TPE by not being able to buy the best coaching. Great pick. One more to go. With the 51st pick, the Kraken select... Left Defense Gino Lombardo While Gino Lombardo, user pat, has mostly been inactive, paaaaaat is a GM in the ISFL and I believe (with a bit of coaxing) he can be a good earner in SHL as well. In conclusion, the Kraken had one of, if not the best, draft of all the junior teams, and will set them up for current and future success.
