S58 mPT #2 Most Important Stat

While it's hard to point to one stat in FHM that really is necessary for every build, I would lean toward suggesting the Offensive and Defensive Read abilities, as without the knowledge of what your team or the other team is doing, you might as well be a pylon with a stick taped to it for all the help you'd be to your team. Knowledge is power!

A lot of people are likely going to say something along the lines of Offensive/Defensive read. Those are well and good and are certainly very important to the build but for me, getting balance up is huge. If you can't stay on your feet you can't make the important plays. Of course other stats will be more useful down the line but getting those physicals up, especially balance, are going to be the keys to success. (77 words)

First off I'd ask them what type of player they were looking to build. If someone said "I am a complete newbie to hockey all together" I would let them know the single most important stat that affects most facets of the game that all players should have I would normally say Strength reigns supreme as the most common stat to pick up for all skaters. However that may not be the most optimal thing for your individual team. I would say Agility is the best stat in the entire game, not only is it a great stat if you're looking to set the hits record so you can land your hit agility lets you avoid everyone coming your way. Agility is also the best for skaters because why would you need balance if you just dodge every point of contact with super high agility. You don't even need to know what's happening in the play because you're dodging everything. I would say if you do go a high agility build that it would be extremely beneficial to have puck handling as your secondary stat having the two of those allows you to play some beginner level NHL 2004 skating around the entire rink constantly until the time runs out stuff.

Listen, kid. These people around here are gonna tell you all sorts of things. "You need a balanced build." "Just dump it in strength, its the best!" "Fighting is the way to go! Just look at me, Teddy Park!" But they are all fools. No, listen to me, your Uncle Cian. You want to dump your hard earned TPE into the stat that matters the most. That's right, it's faceoffs! Because you're opponent can't beat you if you have their face! Now go on and be the best John Travolta you can be and start ripping off some faces!

Thanks for PM and asking me for help. It is important when You start Your career here that You are not afraid to ask people questions about things You are not sure about.
Mostly it depends on what type of player You want to make. In the player build tool, You can already see the key attributes that You must focus on. Personally, I'm a big fan of Stamina. It is like the glue that sticks together Your player's other attributes. Have a fun! L ![]() Registered Posting Freak
There's no one specific stat you should pump massively higher than others, balanced build is the way to go. As there was no context to what type of player they want, I would argue puckhandling is the most important stat for every possible skater. It's great for both offensive/defensive forwards and offensive/defensive dmen. Stamina is also a highly important but at the SHL level puckhandling should eventually surpass it in your build.

I find mental toughness is actually fairly important, because the last thing a goalie wants is to collapse in the late game and let in 3 goals that lose the game for his team.

The most important stat is defensive read. To be able to play winning hockey, everyone in the five man unit needs to defend well. Defence wins championships, right? With a high defensive read stat, you maximize your chances.

I believe for any position, Goaltender notwithstanding, Puckhandling is the most important stat. It’s surely the most important skill for any hockey player. Forwards need to be able to handle the puck to get past defenders, and get into scoring positions. For defencemen, it’s maybe even more vital, as getting your pocket picked by the opposing centre in front of the crease is not just embarrassing, but a good way to get dropped/a kicking from your coach.

I would write back "Hey pal, welcome. If I am being honest, I have no idea so my best advice is to bring it up to whatever General Manager you have on your minor league team cause they will know more than me. Sorry and good luck."
Honest approach. [49 words] ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Now I am free <3 ![]() ![]() SHL GM Beat Nash to 2k
The most important stat you can focus on as a newcomer to this league is positioning. Offensive and defensive. You can always be in the coach’s good books when you are fulfilling your assignment and in the right spot on the ice. It keeps him off your back and your teammates happy.

More hits equals more wins. Hockey is a physical game, and hitting is a big part of it. Commentators and fans alike understand the virtues of hitting your opponent and wearing them down. Our analytics team in Detroit considered the probability of winning as a function of a team’s hits, their opponent’s hits and a measure of puck possession. The result is that, once you take out the effect of possession, more hits means more wins. Increasing your hit differential (your hits minus the other team’s hits) by just one hit leads to an increase in the probability of winning of just under two percentage points, although this effect varies depending on where you’re starting from. Now all this does not mean that in order to win more games, a team should go around hitting like crazy. Teams should take hits as they come, and not force the issue. So these estimates need to be considered in that context. But it is clear that hits are an important and valuable part of the game.
