The Detroit Falcons have a long and decorated history of absolutely hatred of the St. Louis Scarecrows. I mean look at their logo’s smug smile, it almost makes you forget that they are the second to worst team in the league this year. It’s almost easy to feel sorry for the team and its players, but mostly their fans. To be fair, all they need to be successful is offense, defense, and decent goaltending. They can call us birdbrains all they want, but at least we have brains you know? It’s nice to just beat them on the ice whenever we play them. They are our biggest rivals by far, and we have the memes to prove it. The proof is in the pudding, and the pudding of victory is sweet for the Detroit Falcons. As soon as the team plane hits that St. Louis tarmac and we lace up our skates, our next away game will convert so many St. Louis fans and teach them the beautiful “skreeeeeeeeeee” that we know so well.
My biggest rival personally is the Anaheim Outlaws. Why? Great question, because even I don't know the answer. It all started way back when, and by way back I when I mean at the end of last season when I was picked up off of waivers by the Colorado Raptors. Upon joining the locker room, I was initiated as if I was in a cult through fire and flames with a simple mee6 bot command: !fuckthe. When typing this command, the following text would appear, branding itself on my brain for eternity: "Fuck the Anaheim Outlaws with all my bot heart". I would see this multiple times per day, until eventually I was brain washed into hating the Anaheim Outlaws without any rational reasoning. The more I think about it, the less I know about why exactly the Outlaws are my biggest rival. All I know is that they are now my least favorite team. Heck, I don't even know who plays for that team, how successful they have been, or what they did to Colorado, but all I know is that whatever they are smoking out in Denver has made its way into my head. Heck the Anaheim Outlaws!
In all seriousness, I don't actually hate Anaheim, I'm just doing this for the content because I don't have any other rivals come to mind. I don't even think I could name more than 3 or 4 teams in this league so I just went with what I have! (Just in case some Anaheim peeps ever read this).
For the record, I do not believe in singular rivalries. Personally, the next team up on the schedule is the biggest rival every day. That is who you have to beat that day. So it is my personal mission to direct all of my ire and aggression toward them. I want to make their life miserable on that ice. Whatever I have to do, it really doesn't matter to me all that much. I'm going to try to get under their skin and live rent free in their heads. They can come in wearing their team colors, but at the end of the night, they are leaving sporting some nice, huge, black and blue bruises. It really doesn't matter if you play in Nevada or Kelowna, or anywhere else in between in the standings. That's my mentality. So when you arrive at that arena, my advice to you is to check your feelings at the door. It's not personal, it's just hockey.
When Daniel Merica Jr. was being looked over by scouting departments, all but two of those teams laughed at the very idea and threw the report into the trash, citing his “defensive deficiencies” and “total liability on the back end, doesn’t even attempt to play defense”.
What these teams failed to comprehend, which is mind boggling considering their managing teams, is that the SMJHL is a developmental league- despite my own efforts to make its competitive one- which means that when you see a player who’s offensive game is light years ahead of his peers and his work ethic amongst the top of the league, a logical person would say, “okay, he needs work defensively and we can get him there”.
But only Anaheim saw fit to undertake that task, seeing his extreme potential to be a dominant offensive player and with a little work, a solid two way player as well. So when we asked Merica who his rival was, he said this: “Every single GM outside of Anaheim and Maine. They will all regret their draft day mockery of my name.”

"My personal rivals?" asked Hagan. "Oh yeah, that's easy. Every team in this league that I'm not on, and the media for that matter."
Hagan does not have much love lost between himself and the rest of the league's teams, as he has made clear since being drafted. Many teams had their chances to draft him and passed over him several times, with all but two teams not even bothering to do pre-draft scouting of him. Some say that this had a lot to do with the reputation of his family in the league, especially his older brother as a party animal. "I guess if there was one team that I wasn't as much a rival with, it would be Kelowna, because they at least did some scouting of me along with Anaheim. But the rest of them can go straight to hell. They're going to be regretting their decisions for my entire career in the SMJHL, that's for damn sure."
"Of course, I was already familiar with the idea of a rivalry. Plenty of times had I heard the Anaheim Outlaws' staff mention that there would be some rivalry game down the line and that we were supposed to take it very much seriously. In a rather weird state of affairs, it was funny to see that the Nevada organization was somehow far more coolheaded than Anaheim - the one in California - was. In terms of rivalries, the only visible one was with the team from Quebec City. The Citadelles had joined the league the same year the Battleborn did and as such, there was this thing where the media would compare both sides and see who was doing better at the job of being a junior hockey franchise.
And even then, it was more of a curiosity than it was a fire-forged death battle awaiting to occur. Which is a good thing, because I'm pretty sure my religion wouldn't allow it on a Tuesday."

To me my number one rivals for the Maine Timber coming into this season is solely based on my own personal rivalries. For me our number one rival would have to be the Carolina Kraken. Duncan The Walrus has a lot of friends in that organization and its the one other team he thought he could end up on outside of Maine. A lot of the players and even some of the management has had close personal ties with Duncan The Walrus. Heck, one of the players is even responsible for Duncan The Walrus being here at all. This means every time that these two teams face off against one another there is a personal motivation for Duncan The Walrus to go out and give all he has got. Duncan is even hoping that with the recent improvements of both of these organizations that the league starts to take notice of the intensity of the match ups between these two teams. Whether other timber players agree or not, Duncan is declaring his rivals for the season to be the Carolina Kraken.
My first two players played with Montreal, so I've always had a beef with the Detroit Falcons. It's been so long since I was active in the SMJHL, so the organizations are completely different now than when I was last really engaged in the league. Who our biggest rival is was one of my first questions in the Nevada LR, but with Nevada being from the most recent expansion, there hasn't been much time to really build those deep rivalries. There's a rivalry with the other expansion team, Quebec, simply from entering the league at the same time; and you've got the division rivals, Anaheim and Colorado, but it seems like there isn't much deep-seated hatred for any team. Maybe Jimmy will get to be part of the beginning of a new rivalry for the Battleborn, perhaps we'll see something in a playoff series that will spark a long grudge for Nevada. I hope so.
Rivalry? Zhen Roza had to think pretty hard if he felt like there was one. He hasn't felt a rivalry yet, to be honest. Does he want to make the teams that passed him by early to pay? Sure. But that's as a collection, not a singular team or motive. When asked his teammates what team is there a rivalry? Many would reply "It's us versus everyone! We are the Outlaws and everyone hates us". Going to management all they had to say was "Pew Pew baby" with finger guns in the air... Maybe we are our worst rival? Honestly, it is hard to tell what is going on with this team. "As a rookie, it's hard to really come into a new team, new league, and have that rivalry status. That's something that needs to be built up and we have to see those guys in the playoffs have those heated battles."
Nevada doesnt really have a storied beef with anyone yet. I mean we have the Quebec City Citadelles because they were in the same expansion class as we were. We have the members of our division cause thats easy. You can hate on Kelowna or Vancouver because success breeds hatred, but that would also be too easy. Instead Im going to single handedly form a rival with the Anchorage Armada, could you imagine having a team willingly be run by @Gwdjohnson ? I even have a direct quote from someone in the organization, and i quote “The lockerroom is great, super active, but Gabe being GM is bad” Mans even knew 2 of his friends, his closest friends, would be recreating and STILL traded his first rounder away. He also has a history of questionable decisions and statements (you know what i know gabe). (That being said I love Gabe, but if Anchorage want some, they can get some)
Going back to S47, Vancouver has had a rivalry with Halifax (aka Maine) to the point where the locker room motto was "at least we aren't Halifax." This rivalry isn't as strong anymore due to the rearrangement of divisions and conferences, so I'd have to say Vancouver's biggest rival are the Anchorage Armada and their stinky head GM @Gwdjohnson . Although most of the players on their roster are cool people, @Gwdjohnson really brings down the value of everyone else.
GM aside, meeting Anchorage in the playoffs for many seasons before the rearrangement and being in the same division after the rearrangement, has lead to the teams having a bad taste for each other for a while and has lead to a lot of physical matches against each other.
So, even though it's very hard to pick a single rival for the Whalers, I definitely think it would have to be the Anchorage Armada, or @Gwdjohnson , more specifically.
The top rival in the Timbers division, and the top rivals of their current 1st pairing two-way dman rookie Philip Demitra are the:
Quebec City Citadels'
After a dominant pre-season win over the Citadels, Maine felt confident going into the regular season. Quebec quickly dashed Maine's hopes however by squashing the Timbers 7-1 in the first game of the regular season. Demitra would go -3 in his regular season debut. Since then they have had a number of close matches losing 3-2 in the following game with Quebec outshooting the Timbers 29-21. Demitra would end the game -2. They would take another loss a few weeks later, again 3-2, Demitra again ending up -2. This was a part of a back to back which ended in another loss 5-3 with Demitra at least finally having a good game snagging an assist and ending +1.
Demitra had Quebec as one of his top choices to be drafted by, and now that he is on the Timbers he has made it his goal to rain down goals and assists on the ice against the Citadels. They are closely matched in the division in comparison to the Timbers' other main rival the Berserkers who have been more dominant. Despite this the Timbers are 3-0 against the Berserkers this season and somehow getting ruined by Quebec City for the time being....
