Well, as usual, it feels like I am just not cut out for the SHL. However, I guess that I am starting to do better than last year. I think that I definitely am still playing way shittier than pretty much every other player on the team. I guess I need to actually keep doing training to keep this stuff going. I am kind of happy with the amount of points I have put up on the board so far, but a lot of that might just come down to how good my team members are at setting me up to score or get assists. It is definitely tough to start out as a rookie in the SHL but I think that the league has definitely seen some great rookies come in and make an impact immediately. Unfortunately that has not been the case for me! I will try and be better for the good of Chicago.

As an old head, i'm more obsessed with the Edmonton young guns. I'm biased because I consider everyone younger than me a young gun. Jean Paul Boivin has just retired, but he's still on my list up-and-comers.
During warm-ups Julio does slow laps, lobbing in wristers from the blue line while eyeing the opposite end of the sheet for interesting players. there are no immediate rivals on the other end, but Pasta the Turtle is a friend from Edmonton. Julio would do some stretches near center ice to invite Pasta to come over and slap his knee/shin pad as a sign of respect, or perhaps the other way around. If he stopped to chat with me, we would joke about how Tater didn't make the team because Julio has been such dead weight all season and slowed down tater's line, and how Julio is only there on reputation.

We're 24 games in, and the philadelphia forge are 12th in the league, notoriously underperforming. I, Friedland, am currently on the third line carrying the corpse of rex kirkby with 1 goal and 9 assists for 10 points in 24 games. For a guy with 3rd line minutes, that isn't horrible. A 9-10-5 record is simply not going to cut it, and I know we did not see ourselves this low when the season started. I at least expected us to be over .500 by now. So, the question is: How exactly can the forge turn things around?
People aren't going to like what I have to say, but I'll say it: put ME on the first line. With me on the first line, we will become an offensive juggernaut and take the league by storm. I won the agante trophy in season 56, and I still have what it takes to be a #1 Defenseman! I just need a frickin chance!

The season is well underway. Some teams already one third of the way done with the season. It did not take too long to get back into the swing of things. At first, there might have been some rust and some guys coming back to camp a little out of shape but we are all professionals, so we showed up in good form. The team started off doing pretty well, but we did not breakaway from the pack. There were quite a few teams off to good starts. I suppose that means that there more than one or two teams with bad starts. That’s just the ebb and flow of professional hockey. We are striving towards increased parity so some teams will have good starts some seasons, and others not so great starts. The team is starting to really click and we are all happy about that. It’s looking like we will make a run to the playoffs once more, and I don’t think the league is too surprised about that. We are being considered contenders now on a regular basis.

It's been a week since Dirty Boots has laced up for another season with the Detroit Falcons and so far things have not been going well for Detroit. The team has only managed to put up 3 wins and are getting severely outshot. The team is still in a rebuilding role and they did lose their best player due to getting called up so it's been expected. Boots appears to be hitting the sophomore slump has he's only managed to get 8 points so far. The future is bright though as the three rookies on the team are still very active and are proving to be great additions to the team. So long as they stick around the team will definitely improve. One of the bright sides so far has been the outstanding performance in net by Everett Jansson. They may be getting peppered with shots but they're save percentage is currently 5th in the league. If Detroit can figure out how to score there's no doubt that with Jansson keeping the team in the game they can manage to get some wins.

As a team, I think we're about where we expected to be in the Los Angeles Panthers locker room. That doesn't make it much less frustrating, though. We've had 3 game winning streaks and 3 game losing streaks already in this young season. The division was going to be a dogfight from the start, and we've literally been 5th, 2nd, and 1st in the division all within the same few days. It's unbelievable at times, but at the same time I don't want it any other way. It's going to come down to the wire. While Donair is leading the team in goals, that's about all I'm 'happy' about. In losses my OGR and DGR are terrible, and I'm thriving when the team wins. I'd trade some individual success for team success especially down the stretch. I hope improving my physical attributes as I approach 1600 TPE will be a gamechanger in the last few days of the season. As far as the league goes, I'm surprised Winnipeg has won 2 games. Good for them! It's really making the casino line interesting.

Written Task: It's been a week, describe how you feel about your individual play, team play, and any notes/surprises about the league in general. (150+ words) Overall Karl is doing pretty well. He's sitting 3rd on the Platoon in points, and he's really happy to see the scoring is up overall for the team and that it is coming from a lot more sources versus previous seasons. He's focusing on his hits and blocks, being a really good shut down defensive player. He is leading the forwards on the team for hits / blocks combination and really enjoying hitting the ice with the boys. A few surprises so far this season has been Hamilton seeming to get stung by the bad luck bug in overtime. Already with 5 over time losses, tying Philly with that total. I guess bad luck abounds, but a point is better than no? It's nice to see the S53's start to really overtake the league. This is their ultimate season, and is a pretty big draft class. I'm definitely going to be taking notes on the players, because s55 is a big class as well and they will be peaking in 2 seasons for fantasy.

Prompt 2:
Being that this is my 3rd season in the J, I knew I was gonna be better than my previous seasons, especially since this was the first season that I didn't change teams. And so far, that's been true! With 9 goals (3 of them on the Powerplay), and 6 assists (2 on the Powerplay), and a total of 15 points in 29 games, I think that I have definitely improved. My +/- still needs some work with a -7, but it isn't the worst in the league. I think the most impressive thing about this season so far for me is how deadly I am on the Powerplay. with a total of 5 points with a man advantage, and a Powerplay ice time of 2 minutes and 20 seconds, I average a point every 28 seconds in the Powerplay. If I had to improve on anything, I'd say my giveaways. With 13 giveaways versus my 8 takeaways, I feel I lose the puck a bit more often than I should. However, a .62 TA/GA isn't awful. I know that as the season continues, I will only get better, and will hopefully be ready by the time I move up to the major league.

I have to say that just Twenty Five games into the Season, Zoltan is performing a lot better for the Tampa Bay Barracuda that he ever has before. This definitely has to do with the higher TPE totals but also with Tampa bay as a whole being a lot more skilled out on the ice. Through the Twenty Five games Zoltan is at Ten Goals, Nineteen Assists for a total of Twenty Nine points. Sitting a little over a point per game is something I really am impressed with so far. Tampa was a team is sitting second in the division right below Baltimore as well. We are sitting at eighth in the league in total right now which is right on track with where I figured we would be. My biggest surprise is how much the power play effects zoltans production. Sixteen of the total Twenty Nine points have come on the power play for Zoltan and he is averaging a total of Twenty Minutes on the ice per game. Two Minutes and forty five seconds of which is spent on the power play. I really hope that I can keep this up for the rest of the season

I'm pretty happy with my overall play. I was expecting to take a decently big step forward this year as I'm playing at the 350 TPE cap, and that's exactly what we've seen on the ice. I'm getting more involved in goal scoring, and keeping my assists up as well. I think the improvements to puck handling have allowed me to really start to contribute on the offensive end of the ice. On the defensive end... well I was never going to be a two way star, but I get it done, racking up a decent amount of hits already, and helping out with some blocks. Also - I've been in a fight, which... I wouldn't expect. But I won it, so... there's that? All in all, it's been a really good start to the season, and I don't think anyone on Newfoundland has any reason to hang their head with our performance. I know we're all gunning to get back to the cup again. (175 words) HIT SOMEBODY Cheers to tweedledunn and supertardis101 for the awesome signatures! [/pbcust] |
